When I got to school on the morning of the first day, I realized how large the school was and how many students went there. I ended up in the wrong classroom because of the size of the school. And then a kind senior showed up and guided me to my classroom before I was late. I was happy to see that in a class of unfamiliar faces, the only open seat was next to my good friend, Jimmy. My science teacher seemed like a good teacher. After finishing four periods, I didn’t feel too bad. However, the fifth period changed everything. I didn’t feel ready after all. C When I was 9, we packed up our home in Los Angeles and arrived at Heathrow, London on a gray January morning. Everyone in the family settled quickly into the city except me. Without my beloved beaches and endless blue—sky days, I felt at a loss and out of place. Until I made a discovery. Southbank, at an eastern bend in the Thames, is the center of British skateboarding, where the continuous crashing of skateboards left your head ringing .I loved it. I soon made friends with the local skaters. We spoke our own language. And my favorite: Safe. Safe meant cool. It meant hello. It meant don’t worry about it. Once, when trying a certain trick on the beam(横杆), I fell onto the stones, damaging a nerve in my hand, and Toby came over, helping me up: Safe, man. Safe. A few minutes later, when I landed the trick, my friends beat their boards loud, shouting: “ Safe! Safe! Safe!” And that’s what mattered—landing tricks, being a good skater. When I was 15, my family moved to Washington. I tried skateboarding there, but the locals were far less welcoming. Within a couple of years, I’d given it up. When I returned to London in 2004, I found myself wandering down to Southbank, spending hours there. I’ve traveled back several times since, most recently this past spring. The day was cold but clear: tourists and Londoners stopped to watch the skaters. Weaving(穿梭)among the kids who rushed by on their boards, I found my way to the beam. Then a rail—thin teenager, in a baggy white T—shirt, skidded(滑)up to the beam. He sat next to me. He seemed not to notice the man next to him. But soon I caught a few of his glances. “I was a local here 20 years ago,” I told him. Then, slowly, he began to nod his head. “Safe, man. Safe.” “Yeah,” I said. “Safe.” 8. What can we learn about the author soon after he moved to London? A. He felt disappointed. B. He gave up his hobby. C. He liked the weather there. D. He had disagreements with his family. 9. What do the underlined words “Safe! Safe! Safe!” probably mean? A. Be careful! B. Well done! C. No way! D. Don’t worry! 10. Why did the author like to spend time in Southbank when he returned to London? A. To join the skateboarding. B. To make new friends. C. To learn more tricks. D. To relive his childhood days 11. What message does the author seem to convey in the text? A. Children should learn a second language. B. Sport is necessary for children’s health. C. Children need a sense of belonging D. Seeing the world is a must for children. D The Suez Canal (苏伊士运河),which connects the Mediterranean Sea (地中海) and the Red Sea, opened in 1869. It helps speed world trade between the East and the West. But the man-made waterway has also helped speed the rise of other things, such as non-native species, which have damaged the Mediterranean’s environment and caused native species to disappear. The number of non-native species has risen since the Suez Canal was widened in 2015. The “New Suez Canal” has raised concerns in many Mediterranean countries. Bella Galil is an Israeli biologist who has studied the Mediterranean for over 30 years. She noted that the widening and deepening of the Suez Canal had created a “moving aquarium” of species. These species could make coastal waters almost unusable for human beings. Galil believes the number of invasive species has reached 400, which is twice the number from 30 years ago. Scientists in Mediterranean countries from Turkey, Tunisia to Lebanon share the same concern. But some Egyptians don’t consider the environmental concerns as serious. They said only 5% of the invaders are a problem and that invasive species can be helpful by “replacing species that are overfished”. They don’t think that the widening of the canal is responsible for the increase in invasive species; they say the increase was caused by rising water temperatures and wastewater from ships. The Suez Canal Authority runs the canal. Canal officials say they are closely watching the movements of sea species. They say they are requiring ships to take action to avoid carrying species from one side of the canal to the other. And they are trying to keep salt levels high in the Bitter Lakes to block invasive species out. Galil, however, questions whether these will be enough to protect the native species. “One day we will wake up to a complete and irreversible (不可逆的) change and know that there was something we could have done about it, if only it had been done on time,” she said. 12. What does the first paragraph show? A Seeing is believing. B. Man will conquer nature. C. Let nature take its course. D. Every coin has two sides. 13. What does Galil say about the “New Suez Canal”? A. Its environment is worsening. B. It connects Mediterranean countries. C. It is widened to include more species. D. It is to protect endangered native species. 14. What do some Egyptians disagree on? A. The results of overfishing. B. The decrease of native species. C. The cause of the increase in invasive species. D. The meaning of the widening of the Suez Canal. 15. What is Galil’s attitude to the Suez Canal Authority’s action? A. Uninterested. B. Doubtful. C. Supporting. D. Understanding. Are you nervous when sitting in the exam hall? Do worrying thoughts keep you awake at night? A 9. B 10. D 11. 根据第一段“Everyone in the family settled quickly into the city except me. Without my beloved beaches and endless blue -sky days, I felt at a loss and out of place.(除了我之外的家里人都很快适应这个城市,没有了我喜爱的沙滩和蓝天,我感到迷茫和无措)”可知,作者刚到伦敦的时候因为没有喜爱的沙滩,不能很好的融入到新的城市,感到很沮丧。故选A。 根据画线词前文“A few minutes later, when I landed the trick, my friends beat their boards loud, shouting: “ Safe! Safe! Safe!”(几分钟后,当我学会这个技巧时,我的朋友们敲着他们的板子大声喊道:“做得好!做得好!做得好!)”以及后文“And that’s what mattered—landing tricks, being a good skater. (那才是真正重要的——滑板的落地技巧掌握了才是一名好的滑板玩家)”可知,作者掌握了滑板落地技巧,因此他的朋友大声欢呼,因此可以推出本句的Safe是赞美的含义。故选B。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第四段““I was a local here 20 years ago,” I told him. Then, slowly, he began to nod his head. “Safe, man. Safe.”(我告诉他:“我20年前经常在这里玩滑板,”他缓慢地开始向我点头:“嗨,你好!”)”可推知,作者去Southbank这个地方是为了寻找自己玩滑板的回忆。故选D。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第一段“Everyone in the family settled quickly into the city except me. Without my beloved beaches and endless blue—sky days, I felt at a loss and out of place. Until I made a discovery.(除了我之外的家里人都很快适应这个城市,没有了我喜爱的沙滩和蓝天,我感到迷茫和无措。直到我有了一个发现)”以及文章第二段“Southbank, at an eastern bend in the Thames, is the center of British skateboarding, where the continuous crashing of skateboards left your head ringing .I loved it. I soon made friends with the local skaters.(泰晤士河东段的南岸,是英国滑板运动的中心,在那里,滑板不断的碰撞声让你的脑袋嗡嗡作响。我喜欢那里。我很快就和当地的滑板手交了朋友)”及文章倒数第二段“When I was 15, my family moved to Washington. I tried skateboarding there, but the locals were far less welcoming. Within a couple of years, I’d given it up.(我15岁时,我全家搬到了华盛顿。我试着在那里玩滑板,但当地人远不那么热情。几年之内,我就放弃了)”以及文章最后一段“When I returned to London in 2004, I found myself wandering down to Southbank, spending hours there. I’ve traveled back several times since, most recently this past spring.(当我2004年回到伦敦时,我发现自己在南岸闲逛,在那里呆了几个小时。 D The Suez Canal (苏伊士运河),which connects the Mediterranean Sea (地中海) and the Red Sea, opened in 1869. A. Seeing is believing. 【答案】12. D 13. A 14. C 15. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是说明文。主要说明了苏伊士运河扩建后,非本地物种入侵严重,导致当地物种逐渐消失。 【12题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段“The Suez Canal (苏伊士运河),which connects the Mediterranean Sea (地中海) and the Red Sea, opened in 1869. It helps speed world trade between the East and the West. But the man-made waterway has also helped speed the rise of other things, such as non-native species, which have damaged the Mediterranean’s environment and caused native species to disappear.(苏伊士运河于1869年开通,连接地中海和红海。它有助于加快东西方之间的世界贸易。但这条人造水道也加速了其他物种的崛起,比如非本地物种,它们破坏了地中海的环境,导致本地物种消失)”可知,苏伊士运河连接着地中海和红海,促进了东西方之间的贸易。但扩建后,外来物种入侵严重,这些入侵生物破坏了地中海的环境,导致当地物种逐渐消失。由此可以推知,本段说明凡事有利有弊。故选D。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“Bella Galil is an Israeli biologist who has studied the Mediterranean for over 30 years. She noted that the widening and deepening of the Suez Canal had created a “moving aquarium” of species. These species could make coastal waters almost unusable for human beings. Galil believes the number of invasive species has reached 400, which is twice the number from 30 years ago.(Bella Galil是以色列生物学家,研究地中海已有30多年。她指出,苏伊士运河的拓宽和深化创造了一个物种的“移动水族馆”。这些物种可能会使沿海水域几乎无法供人类使用。加利尔认为,入侵物种的数量已经达到400种,是30年前的两倍)”可知,以色列生物学家Bella Galil表示扩建后,苏伊士运河的入侵物种使得沿海水域的水几乎不适合人类使用,而且入侵物种的数量是三十年前的两倍。由此可知,Galil谈到扩建后的New Suez Canal环境恶化。故选A。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段的最后一句“They don’t think that the widening of the canal is responsible for the increase in invasive species; they say the increase was caused by rising water temperatures and wastewater from ships.(他们不认为运河的拓宽是入侵物种增加的原因;他们表示,这一增长是由水温上升和船舶废水造成的)”可知,埃及人不赞同扩建运河是造成入侵物种增加的原因的说法。故选C。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段的“Galil, however, questions whether these will be enough to protect the native species.(然而,加利尔质疑这些措施是否足以保护本地物种)”可推知,Galil对于Suez Canal Authority采取的措施表示怀疑。故选B。 第二节 (共5小题; 每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分) 根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Are you nervous when sitting in the exam hall?
