In parts of Africa, the sky is filled with a
dark cloud. But this is no rain cloud. It is a
living cloud made of billions of locusts that
are traveling across the continent eating every
thing in their path.
And in the battle to stop this disaster, a
radio station in Senegal,West Africa, is offer鄄
ing listeners 50 kilograms of rice if they can
catch and kill 50 kilograms of locusts. The ra鄄
dio station is in one of Senegal蒺s worst affect鄄
44
ed regions.
This is West Africa蒺s biggest locust disas鄄
ter in 15 years, and it is moving east, causing
huge damage to crops. As they move, they
breed, and increase their number and will soon
threaten Sudan in the northeast of Africa.
Some say it could reach Asia. Experts say the
great damage to crops in areas already suffer鄄
ing from food shortage蒺s and war could cause
many people to go hungry. Governments in
the region are not well equipped to fight the
pest.
Although leaders of 12 countries have
agreed on a plan, it is not expected to be
enough.
“
We are now treating 6,000 hectares
per day with pesticide, but we need to treat
20,000 hectares per day in order to have any
hope of controlling this disaster,
”
said Mo鄄
hamed Abdallahi Ould Babah, director of lo鄄
cust control in Mauritania.
Requests are being made for international
aid, which is the only way to limit the crisis,
the UN蒺s Food and Agriculture Organization
warned.
21. The purpose of offering people rice for catch鄄
ing locusts in Senegal is .

on the locusts
C. to prevent more people from starvation
D. to get more people to listen to the radio
report on locusts
22. It can be concluded that, in order to end
the locust disaster, .
A. leaders of 12 countries in West Africa
should call on their people to take action
B. insects experts should be sent to these
regions
C. other countries outside Africa should
keep close watch on their own lands
D. help from all over the world is in ur鄄

Parrots are prey animals, which means
that other predators
(捕食者)
in the wild, such
as hawks or snakes, are looking to make them
into a meal. This one factor influences parrots蒺
behavior in your house more than any other.
Parrots are most easily hurt when feeding
on the ground; membership in a group plays
an important function in ensuring their safety
and improving their chances of survival from
attacks by predators. The most common preda鄄
tors of parrots include hawks, snakes, cats,
monkeys, and bats. Some predators make at鄄
tacks only during the day while others hunt in
the night.
As prey animals, parrots are constantly
watching out for danger and they instinctively
(本能地 )
react to risks. Their first choice is
to take flight. However, if this is not possible,
they will fight with their powerful beaks to de鄄

fend themselves.
Because their biggest enemy is the hawk,
parrots are especially reactive to quick move鄄
ments from above and behind. For this reason,
it is wise to avoid quick, sudden movements
near your bird. This is a built鄄in reaction not
subject to logic or reason. Simple and rela鄄
tively harmless household objects can draw
extreme fear responses from a bird. For exam鄄
ple, a balloon may represent a hawk or a va鄄
cuum hose
(吸尘器软管 )
may be the same
as a snake in your bird蒺s mind.
As prey animals, parrots are often fright鄄
ened by exposure to new household items or
strangers. It is important to expose your bird
to safe experiences and changes starting at a
very young age to build flexibility and im鄄
prove their adaptability. Variety in diet and
toys, travel, and exposure to new people and
places all help to make your bird more flexi鄄
ble and adaptable to change.
24. What is important for parrots to better sur鄄
vive from attacks in the wild?
A. Living in a group.
B. Growing beautiful feathers.
C. Feeding on the ground.
D. Avoiding coming out at night.
25. What is parrots蒺 first response to an imme鄄
diate risk?
A. To attack back.
B. To get away.
C. To protect the young.
D. To play dead.
26. Why would a balloon frighten a parrot?
A. It may explode suddenly.
B. It may be in a strange shape.
C. It may have a strong color.
D. It may move around quickly.
27. What is the author蒺s purpose of writing the
text?
A. To explain wild parrots蒺 behavior.
B. To give advice on raising a parrot.
C. To call for action to protect animals.
D. To introduce a study on bird ecology.

After years of heated debate, gray wolves
were reintroduced to Yellowstone National Park.
Fourteen wolves were caught in Canada and
transported to the park. By last year, the Ye鄄
llowstone wolf population had grown to more
than 170 wolves.
Gray wolves once were seen here and
there in the Yellowstone area and much of the
continental United States, but they were gra鄄
dually displaced by human development. By
the 1920s, wolves had practically disappeared
from the Yellowstone area. They went farther
north into the deep forests of Canada, where
there were fewer humans around.
The disappearance of the wolves had many
unexpected results. Deer and elk populations
—
major food sources
(来 源 )
for the wolf
—
grew rapidly. These animals consumed large
amounts of vegetation
(植被)
, which reduced
plant diversity in the park. In the absence of
wolves, coyote populations also grew quickly.
The coyotes killed a large percentage of the
46
park蒺s red foxes, and completely drove away
the park蒺s beavers.
As early as 1966, biologists asked the
government to consider reintroducing wolves
to Yellowstone Park. They hoped that wolves
would be able to control the elk and coyote
problems. Many farmers opposed the plan be鄄
cause they feared that wolves would kill their
farm animals or pets.
The government spent nearly 30 years
coming up with a plan to reintroduce the
wolvers. The US Fish and Wildlife Service
carefully monitors and manages the wolf
packs in Yellowstone. Today, the debate con鄄
tinues over how well the gray wolf is fitting in
at Yellowstone. Elk, deer, and coyote popula鄄
tions are down, while beavers and red foxes
have made a comeback. The Yellowstone wolf
project has been a valuable experiment to help
biologists decide whether to reintroduce wolves
to other parts of the country as well.
28. What is the text mainly about?
A. Wildlife research in the United States.
B. Plant diversity in the Yellowstone area.
C. The conflict between farmers and gray
wolves.
D. The reintroduction of wolves to Yel鄄
lowstone Park.
29. What does the underlined word
“
displaced
”
in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Tested.
B. Separated.
C. Forced out.
D. Tracked down.
30. What did the disappearance of gray wolves
bring about?
A. Damage to local ecology.
B. A decline in the park蒺s income.
C. Preservation of vegetation.
D. An increase in the variety of animals.
31. What is the author蒺s attitude towards the
Yellowstone wolf project?
A. Doubtful. B. Positive.
C. Disapproving. D. Uncaring.

When someone has been bitten by a snake,
try to find out if the snake is poisonous or
harmless. Their bite marks are usually diffe鄄
rent. The bite of most poisonous snakes leaves
marks of two fangs. If the bite of a snake
leaves only two rows of teeth marks, but no
fang marks, it is less likely that the snake is
poisonous.
People often believe that certain harmless
snakes are poisonous. Try to find out which of
the snakes in your area are truly poisonous
and which are not. Please do not kill non鄄poi鄄
sonous snakes, because they do no harm. On
the contrary, they kill mice and other pests
that do lots of damage. Some even kill poi鄄
sonous snakes.
Here is some treatment for poisonous
snakebite:
*Stay quiet: don蒺t move the bitten part.
The more it蒺s moved, the faster the poison
will spread through the body. If the bite is on
the foot, the person should not walk at all.
*Remove jewellery because swelling
(肿

can spread rapidly.
*Wrap the bitten part with a wide elastic
bandage or clean cloth to slow the spread of
poison. Keeping the arm or leg very still, wrap
it tightly, but not so tight that it stops the
pulse
(脉搏 )
at the wrist or on top of the
foot. If you cannot feel the pulse, loosen the
bandage a little.
*Wind the bandage over the hand or foot,
and up the whole arm or leg. Make sure you
can still feel the pulse.
*Carry the person, on a stretcher
(担架)
if possible, to the nearest health center. If you
can, also take the snake, because different
snakes may require different antive鄄noms
(抗
蛇毒血清)
.
*Poisonous snakebite is dangerous. Send
for medical help
—
but always do the things
explained above at once. Some treatments,
such as cutting the skin around the bite and
sucking the venom
(
a liquid poison
)
out of
the bite, can cause infection. And remember:
Never drink alcohol after snakebite. It makes
things worse!
32. What is the purpose of Paragraph 2?
A. To introduce different kinds of snakes
to us.
B. To tell us how to recognize poisonous
snakes.
C. To advise treating poisonous and harm鄄
less snakes differently.
D. To show how to protect ourselves from
snakes.
33. If our hand is bitten, we should wind the
bandage over the whole arm to .
A. stop the pulse
B. avoid infection
C. prevent the blood from flowing
D. reduce the spread of poison
34. Which of the following first aid may cause
infection?
A. Removing the poison with the mouth.
B. Wrapping the elastic bandage tightly.
C. Drinking some water after a snakebite.
D. Giving mouth to mouth to save the vic鄄
tim.
35. Where does this text most probably come

There are many kinds of clouds. Clouds
are an important part of Earth蒺s weather.
How Do Clouds Form?
The sky can be full of water. But most of
the time you can蒺t see the water. The drops of
water are too small to see. They have turned
into a gas called water vapor. 36.
The cooler air causes the water droplets to
start to stick to things like bits of dust, ice or
sea salt.
37.
48
Clouds get their names in two ways. One
way is by where they are found in the sky. Some
clouds are high up in the sky. Low clouds form
closer to Earth蒺s surface. In fact, low clouds
can even touch the ground. These clouds are
called fog. Middle clouds are found between
low and high clouds. 38. Cirrus clouds
(卷云 )
are high clouds. They look like fea鄄
thers. Cumulus clouds
( 积 云 )
are middle
clouds. These clouds look like giant cotton
balls in the sky.
39.
Most of the water in clouds is in very
small droplets. The droplets are so light that
they float in the air. Then they turn into larger
drops. When that happens, gravity causes them
to fall to Earth. We call the falling water drops
“
rain
”
. When the air is colder, the water may
form snowflakes instead.
Why Do Scientists Study Clouds?
Clouds are important for many reasons.
Rain and snow are two of those reasons. At
night, clouds reflect heat and keep the ground
warmer. During the day, clouds make shade
that can keep us cooler. 40. Scien鄄
tists use satellites in space to study clouds. Scien鄄
tists also study clouds on other planets. Mars
has clouds that are like the clouds on Earth.
But other planets have clouds that aren蒺t made
of water.
A. What Are Clouds?
B. What Causes Rain?
C. What Are Some Types of Clouds?
D. There are varied shapes of clouds.
E. Another way clouds are named is by
their shape.
F. As the water vapor goes higher in the
sky, the air gets cooler.
G. Studying clouds helps scientists better
understand Earth蒺s weather.

第一节 (满分

Boys and girls,
I蒺m greatly honoured to deliver the speech. As we all
know, with the development of economy and society, the
number of private cars is amazingly increasing. Cars and
other vehicles let off carbon gases, so do many other hu鄄
man activities, which causes global warming, disasters, and
so on. It蒺s high time that we should go green.
From my point of view, we should raise the public蒺s
awareness of the significance of going green. And taking
public transportation or riding bicycles instead of driving
should be greatly encouraged. What蒺s more, it蒺s a good
idea to classify our rubbish and recycle it in our daily life.
That蒺s all. Thank you.
第二节 (满分

Paragraph 1:
I just looked at my friend in disbelief as he told the
story of the first day we met. Kyle had planned to kill him鄄
self over the weekend. He talked of how he had cleaned
out his locker so his mom wouldn蒺t have to do it later and
was carrying his stuff home. Meanwhile, I found he looked
hard at me and gave me a little smile.
“
Thankfully, I was
saved. My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable.
”
I
heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome,
popular boy told us all about his weakest moment. When
his eyes caught mine, I was able to see tears shimmering in
his smiling eyes.
Paragraph 2:
I smiled back in tears. Not until that moment did I
realize what a big difference one small gesture had made to
him. I even saw his mom and dad looking at me and
smiling with that same grateful smile. It dawned on me that
never should we underestimate the power of our actions.
With one small gesture we can change a persons life. For
better or for worse.

M: What did you do over the weekend?
W: I went to a global warming conference in London.
It was fantastic to be around so many people who care
about the environment.
Text 2
W: The air quality in this city is horrible! I am afraid
that we were supposed to go outside with a face mask!
M: Yes, and exhaust fumes from vehicles contributed
a lot to it.
Text 3
M: In the last 20 years bull sharks have been responsi鄄
ble for five attacks in Australian waters. What triggers
that?
M: The reasons are complicated.
Text 4

2020?
M: Yes! And the thing that contributed a lot to the

Text 5
W: Do you think we can fix the environment problem

1,000 years to be broken down.
Text 6
W: Where should we set up our picnic? By the lake?
It looks so blue and clear, just like the sky!
M: I know! But it蒺s hot today. Let蒺s have a picnic un鄄
der the trees over there instead of by the lake. The trees
will keep the sun off us, so it won蒺t be as hot.
W: Good idea! It蒺s a sunny day for a picnic in the
park. But I wouldn蒺t want to be running around too much.
M: You蒺re right! I take my dog for a walk on the
walking paths here to get some exercise, but only when it蒺s
cooler outside.
Text 7
M: What time do you want to wake up in the

M: What ever happened to sleeping in on the week鄄

W: You can sleep in if you want to. I always feel
better when I get up early.
M: Whenever you get up early, your alarm wakes me
up. I can蒺t go back to sleep, and then I蒺m tired for the rest
of the day.
W: How about you get up early with me tomorrow
and we sleep in on Sunday?
M: OK. But in the future, let蒺s not make any plans
that involve seeing your parents before noon!
Text 8
M: Hello, you look lost. Can I be of assistance?
W: Oh, thanks. You蒺re right. I am lost. I蒺m looking
for the Student Union building.
M: You蒺re close; it蒺s just across the playground. It蒺s
the three鄄story brick building over there.
W: I see, thanks a lot. You蒺ve been a big help.
M: Excuse me for saying so, but you蒺re not from

W: I蒺ve been here about three weeks now. So, what蒺s
your major, Sam?
M: I蒺m studying medicine now. What蒺s yours?
W: I蒺m not sure yet. I蒺m kind of interested in business
but my parents believe psychology will be hot in the future.
M: So, do you live in the dorm?
W: Actually no, I have a small apartment about five
blocks from here. Well, I have to run. Thanks for your

The Tibetan plateau is extremely remote and inhos鄄
pitable. Its southern border runs through the world蒺s highest
mountain range
—
the Himalayas. Its central part is a
windswept and freezing wilderness. But this challenging
place is home to incredible wildlife. There are more large
creatures here than anywhere else in China. Here people
have a long tradition of co鄄existing peacefully with the
creatures and landscape around them, which has helped to
protect their fragile environment.

I feel it a great honour to make a speech here.
As we all know
,
the environment around us is getting
increasingly worse. Chemical waste is damaging the air we
breathe and fish in rivers. What蒺s worse
,
some people
even have no clean water to drink. So it蒺s time to take
measures to improve the situation. For example

we can use shopping bas鄄

can use both sides of the paper when we write. In conclu鄄

if everyone pays more attention to our environment

we will have a

from time to time. I watched them play and felt so happy
for my daughter from the bottom of my heart.
Paragraph 2:

I was shocked.
“

“

We embraced each
