二、读后续写
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
1. I took a job as a receptionist (接待员) for a vet (兽医) almost five decades ago. As an enthusiastic animal lover, I accepted the position on condition that I wouldn’t have to assist with any wounded animals. I couldn’t bear to see any creature in pain. At the end of my first week, we were closing the office for the day when a young man ran up to us holding a seriously injured Doberman puppy (杜宾犬幼犬) in his arms and begging us to save his life. The four-month-old puppy had been hit by a car.
The doctor and I ran back into the operating room. The only place the skin was still attached to this poor little animal’s body was around one shoulder. The vet worked tirelessly for what seemed like hours, stitching (缝合) him back together again. That was the easy part. The puppy had broken several bones, including his spine (脊柱). Even if he survived the next few days, we were quite sure he would never walk again.
That day forever changed my life. The vet guided me, and I became his assistant in all things. One of my first jobs was to give that Doberman puppy daily physical care. I remembered moving his tiny legs to try to keep his muscles from withering (萎缩). Weeks went by until one day, I felt this little fighter push back ever so slightly. And he continued to push back till he could finally use his legs. He recovered.
A year later, I walked into the clinic’s waiting room and saw a huge Doberman who had been standing quietly with his owner on the opposite side of the room. I called the name of the next client.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
Suddenly, the huge Doberman broke loose (挣脱) from his owner and rushed toward me.

2. Winston watched rain pour down. He sighed. “This is just typical! School holidays and it rains!” His younger sister, Hannah, didn’t answer and carried on rolling around the floor with Grandma’s dog, Mac. A moment later, the door opened and 16-year-old Sophie, headphones glued as usual to her ears, bounded upstairs.
Mac certainly needed no second chance and was out of the room and into the garden before Hannah could get to her feet. Winston yelled, “We’re supposed to keep him in. He doesn’t know his way around this end of town.” Grabbing two coats, Hannah joined her brother on the step, just in time to see the black and white dog walked slowly up the road. “No time to leave a note to Mom,” Winston decided, taking charge. “Let’s get him. The last thing Grandma needs to know when she’s in hospital is that we’ve lost her dog,” he added.
The two children rushed toward Mac. Wagging (摆动) his tail energetically, he raced off toward the park. Mac led them toward the gateway to the town park and set off at once toward the duck pond. Winston and Hannah were close behind but cannoned (猛撞) round the corner straight into a woman pushing a baby carriage. “Watch where you are going,” she yelled. “Sorry,” they said. “I can’t see Mac any more,” Winston announced when the woman had gone on her way.
A few minutes of racing along the paths in the park finally convinced the children that they had lost Mac. “We’re never going to find him by ourselves,” Hannah said. “A bus! Come on! Let’s go home and phone Mom,” Winston shouted. Before Hannah could argue, he had pulled his sister onto the bus and paid their fares.
Later, Hannah did try to tell him that the bus was going the wrong way but by then it was too much late. They both realized they were going east instead of west. Hannah burst into tears. She cried, “I’m cold. I’m scared because we’ll be in real trouble now. We’ve lost Mac!”

3. In the morning, I got up early and prepared for the everyday jogging. The sun was just beginning to peek through the curtains, casting a warm glow over my bedroom. The air was fresh and crisp, filled with the promise of a new day.
I quickly dressed in my running gear, grabbed my water bottle, and stepped out into the quiet street. The neighborhood was still mostly asleep, except for a few early birds like me. I took a deep breath, filling my lungs with the invigorating air, and began my usual route.
The jogging path was familiar to me, and I knew every curve and bump in the road. As I ran, I let my mind wander, thinking about the day ahead and the tasks that awaited me. My steps were steady and rhythmic, like a metronome (节拍器) keeping time with my thoughts.
As the sun rose higher in the sky, the neighborhood began to wake up. I could hear the sounds of morning routines starting up—the squeak of a door hinge, the clang of a pot on a stove, the cheerful chatter of neighbors greeting each other. These sounds were a comforting backdrop to my jog, adding a sense of normality and routine to the start of my day.
After about thirty minutes, I reached the end of my route and turned back towards home. My legs were starting to feel the burn when a lovely puppy suddenly came into my sight. The puppy was nobody but my neighbor grandma’s little dog. It seemed to have escaped from its yard. Its big, brown eyes sparkled with curiosity as it approached me, sniffing at my shoes and licking my hand, as if to say “jogging is fun, isn’t it?”. I couldn’t help but smile at the little bundle of joy, and I knelt down to pet it. “Who’s a good boy?” I asked, scratching behind its ears. The puppy responded with a happy yip and a lick to my cheek.

4. Shelter staff had considered Ruby unadoptable and unmanageable due to her high energy. The shelter workers looked at her and just saw that she had a ton of energy that just needed to be focused and maybe put to work. Five different families had returned her to the shelter before she finally found her home with the police station and ended up proving just how special she really was.
Her long-time handler (驯犬员), Corporal Daniel O’Neil, felt a kinship(亲切感) with Ruby and saw some of himself in her. He knew she needed a task to focus her energy on.
“We were kind of parallel. Because when I was younger, I was kind of messy. I couldn’t focus and I wasn’t good at school. But no one ever gave up on me. They said, ‘Hey, he’s a hard worker and he can really make a difference,’” said Daniel. “And I think that’s what they saw in Ruby and that’s why we were destined (命中注定) to be together.”
A normal dog could be trained in months. Daniel trained Ruby for a year and a half——much longer than others—but he never gave up on her. In 2011, Ruby became a police dog. Six years later, she earned hero status for her incredible rescue of a local missing boy.
“We got a call from Gloucester Police Department stating there was a missing boy,” Daniel recalled the day of Ruby’s heroic rescue, “And we just went out and started searching.”
About eight hours into their search, Ruby bolted (奔跑) away from the group and ran down a hill. Daniel followed Ruby down the hill.
注意:1.续写词数应为 150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
Daniel looked over the hill and saw a pair of boots on the ground.

5. Honey is my dog. She always follows me like a shadow. She often accompanies me to visit neighbors.
That October morning last year, I year, I decided to take Honey with me while I'll ran some errands (办事). I opened the door of my car. “Come on, Honey. Let’s go.” She jumped into the SUV and settled down on the passenger seat. I got behind the wheel and started the SUV.
It’s always difficult turning around. We live in a remote area up in the hills outside San Rafael, California, surrounded by towering redwoods. You have to drive up the mountain to get to our driveway.
I moved around and backed up slowly. Suddenly, I felt a shake as the left back section of the SUV dropped. Oh, no! The edge! The car slipped in the soft soil, and rolled. I hadn’t put on my seat belt yet; I was waiting to finish turning around. Now I fell inside the SUV as it somersaulted (翻滚) down the valley. Branches broke. The car rolled faster. Four, five, six rolls until I heard a horrible noise. A large branch plunged (插入) through the roof, and then hit my leg and chest. We landed upside down. I felt a sharp pain in my chest. I was pinned (钉住). I looked over to find Honey. She was still in the passenger seat and, thank goodness, she was okay.
“Sorry, girl,” I said. I tried to see if I could unpin myself from behind the wheel. It was no use. Something was wrong with my leg. I grabbed my cell phone and called 911. But I couldn’t get a signal at the bottom of that valley.
I figured we were at least t 50 feet down. Robin, my closest neighbour, lived a quarter mile uphill from me, and had her own driveway. There was no reason she or anyone else would drive up to my house.
At least I could get Honey out of there.1There was a hole in the driver’s side window. Painfully, I reached over and picked her up. I gently put her head through the hole.
“Go home, baby.”
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

In the last few years, the population of many wild animals has dropped sharply, putting them at the risk of extinction, which triggers great concern in society.
Sadly, human activity is the main reason why the wildlife is endangered. In many places where the wildlife can be found, people are destroying their natural habitats, leaving them nowhere to live. Poachers are threatening their lives. To save the wildlife, it is high time that we took effective measures. We’d better plant more trees so as to restore their sweet home and build more reserves.
In a shared world with a shared future, saving the wildlife is saving ourselves. Let’s contribute every effort to saving them before it is too late!

This winter holiday, I, together with 30 other students, went to Yunnan and took part in the Wildlife Protection Winter Camp held by WWF.
We spent one week in the wild learning about endangered animals from wildlife professionals. We observed how different species of monkeys adapted themselves to their natural habitats. What’s more, to help protect them, various activities were organized, such as picking up plastics, removing nets and traps and putting up posters.

【答案】参考范文
Animals Protection, Everyone’s Duty
Dear Friends,
Wild animals are in trouble. They’re losing their homes, facing hunters, and struggling with climate change.
But we can help. We need to do a few things to keep animals safe. We can make more places where they can live without being bothered. We should also stop people from hunting them illegally and selling them. And we can try to use things that don’t hurt animals’ homes. Saving animals isn’t just about keeping cute animals around. It’s about keeping the world in balance. Every animal helps keep things working right. So let’s all do our part to help animals. 【答案】Hello, everyone!
I’m Li Hua, a student of senior 3. I’m so privileged to talk about wild animal protection here.
Nowadays, an increasing number of wild animals are being endangered. Man and nature, as we all know, coexist in harmony. The destruction of the environment by humans and the endless hunting of wild animals result in their extinction, and in turn have a great impact on human survival. Therefore, protecting wild animals really matters. It always comes first for the government to take strict measures accordingly. High technology should also be applied to the improvement of the habitats for the wild animals. Equally important is everyone’s involvement in wild animal protection.
Every individual’s efforts, I believe, make all the difference to the world!
Thanks for listening!

Dear fellow students,
Wild animals are on the verge of extinction due to the destruction of their habitats and living spaces by human activities. According to statistics, about 75 species go extinct every day in the world. The reasons for this include the invasion of human activities on their habitats, and the actions of hunters.
To protect wild animals, we should take the following measures. Firstly, we should raise public awareness about the importance of wildlife protection. Secondly, we can support the establishment of more natural reserves to provide a safe haven for wild animals. Finally, we should firmly oppose illegal hunting and trading of wild animals.
Let’s act now to protect these precious lives.

1.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】Suddenly, the huge Doberman broke loose (挣脱) from his owner and rushed toward me. My heart skipped a beat, but as the dog drew closer, I recognized him—it was the puppy that I had nurtured back to health. I found myself pinned against the wall with this magnificent dog standing on his hind legs, his front paws on my shoulders, washing my face with abundant and joyful kisses!
I went on to be a vet technician (兽医技术员) for 14 years , and since retirement, I’ve volunteered at a no-kill animal shelter. Being a vet technician and volunteer at a no-kill animal shelter, I succeeded in saving more animals, which often made me think of the grateful huge Doberman. Although many years have passed, I still shed tears in amazement at the display of love and gratitude the dog had for me. All the dogs knew they had been rescued by me and they were grateful to me.

【答案】The bus turned a corner and a small house came into view. “Oh look,” said Winston. “Grandma’s house. Oh...” He stared in amazement at a small, very wet and black and white dog sitting on the doorstep, waiting patiently. The children got off the bus at the next stop and charged back up the road. “Mac!” screamed Hannah, “We found you! You came home.” Winston said, “Poor Mac. He must miss Grandma. Let’s get him home and dry him off.”
They rode the bus home with the dog. They were in the kitchen drying Mac off when the phone rang. It was Grandma. She said, “I just have to phone and see if poor old Mac is alright. I’m so worried about him.” Winston and Hannah looked at each other. Winston shook his head. Hannah nodded. “Oh, you mustn’t worry, Grandma,” Hannah said brightly. “He’s had a lovely day. No trouble at all!”

【答案】One possible version:
I knew I couldn’t leave it alone on the street. The little puppy seemed eager to follow me, its tail wagging with excitement. I decided to take it back to its owner, hoping that my neighbor grandma hadn’t noticed its absence yet. As we walked, the puppy kept jumping around, clearly enjoying the attention and the new adventure. I chuckled at its playful antics, feeling a warmth spread through me that was more than just the morning sun.
Eventually, we arrived at the yard. The gate was slightly ajar, which explained how the puppy had managed to escape. I gently pushed it open and called out for the neighbor grandma, hoping she was nearby. Moments later, she appeared, a look of relief washing over her face as she saw her beloved pet safe and sound with me. She thanked me profusely, and I assured her it was no trouble at all. As I waved goodbye and started my journey back home, I felt a sense of satisfaction, knowing I had made a small but meaningful difference in someone’s day.

【答案】范文
Daniel looked over the hill and saw a pair of boots on the ground. Not far away, there was a young boy lying face down motionlessly and Ruby, his trusty police dog, was anxiously bending over the boy. Daniel rushed forward and found that the boy had hit his head and suffered a severe injury! The boy was in critical condition. Acting swiftly, Daniel picked up the boy and raced to the hospital immediately. Later, good news arrived. Thanks to Ruby, the boy was saved, safe and sound. A flood of joy welled up in Daniel, because Ruby had done exactly what he had trained her to do.
Coincidentally, the boy’s mother, Pat, had helped Ruby at the animal shelter. As a then volunteer, Pat still remembered that Ruby, the energetic dog, had lived in the shelter for far too long before she became a police dog. “She was more than a dog,” Pat told Daniel, full of gratitude. “One good turn deserves another. The dog that you helped just saved your son’s life,” Daniel added. Ruby was regarded as a hero and a symbol for how special and loyal shelter dogs can be. With the right patience, care and compassion, these remarkable creatures can accomplish amazing things with and for their human partners.

I was grateful that Honey had managed to bring help.
After I got all sorts of tests, Robin told me what had happened. She said that when Honey got back home, she was frantic. She kept barking and running around the house, which is unusual. Robin realized something was wrong and followed Honey back to the accident site. I was amazed at Honey's intelligence and loyalty. Thanks to her, I was saved. I knew I owed my life to my wonderful dog.
