On a hot summer day, you find the pond (池塘) has almost dried up. Where did the water go? It goes into the air! Each drop of water is made of tiny droplets (小水滴). When the sun warms them, they rise and become part of the air. However, do you know how rain is formed?
High in the sky, the air is cooler. As the water in the air cools, it changes back into droplets. They get together to make clouds.
In the clouds, many, many droplets get together and grow bigger. When they are heavy enough, they fall from the sky as raindrops, or—if it’s very cold—snowflakes (雪花)! The water we have on Earth now has been moving and changing forever!

For many years, Robin Hood and his men had adventures (冒险). They robbed (抢劫) the rich and gave to the poor. They fought the sheriff’s men. Robin waited for King Richard to return from the wars. “Then and only then will I get my lands back and stop being an outlaw (歹徒),” he told his men. “Until that time we will live in Sherwood Forest.”
More and more men and women joined the outlaws in Sherwood Forest. Prince John became very angry.
“I will give one thousand pounds for the head of Robin Hood,” he told the Sheriff of Nottingham.
The sheriff borrowed money from rich merchants. Soon he had more men than Robin Hood.
“I must win those thousand pounds,” the sheriff told his wife. “If I do not, we shall lose everything.”
When his army was ready, the sheriff left Nottingham for Sherwood Forest. Before they reached Robin’s camp, one of his men saw them. He blew his horn three times.
Robin said, “The sheriff and his men are coming. We know he has a large army now. This will be the greatest battle of our lives. We must win this battle to stay free.”
Robin and the outlaws fought a great battle against the sheriff and his men. Many men were killed and wounded on both sides. There were too many of the sheriff’s men for the outlaws to beat. At last, the sheriff’s men captured Robin and took him to the prison in Nottingham. They tied him with a rope and put him in a cell. The cell was at the top of a tall tower.
During the night, Robin was able to untie the rope. There was a small window in the tower. Robin tied one end of the rope to a ring in the wall of his cell. He tied the other end to himself. Then he climbed through the window. The cell was a long way from the ground. Slowly, Robin climbed down the rope. He was halfway down when the rope broke. Robin fell to the ground. He lay there for a long time. His leg hurt badly.

Can dogs and cats get along well in the same home? People who are thinking about getting a dog as a friend for their cat are worried that they will fight (打架). A research (研究) finds that if the cat is taken back home before the dog, and if they are introduced when still young (less than 6 months for cats, a year for dogs), it is highly possible that the two pets will get along swimmingly. In two-thirds of the homes cats and dogs have a good relationship.
However, it wasn’t all sweetness and light. There was a reported coldness between the cat and dog in 25% of the homes, while aggression (好斗) and fighting were found in 10% of the homes. One reason for this is probably that some of their body languages are just different. For example, when a cat turns its head away it means aggression, while a dog doing the same means submission (顺从).
In homes with cats and dogs living peacefully, researchers found something surprising. They are learning how to talk each other’s language. It is a surprise that cats can learn how to talk “Dog”, and dogs can learn how to talk “Cat”.
What’s interesting is that both cats and dogs have appeared to become smarter. They can learn to read each other’s body languages, showing that the two may have more in common (共同的) than we thought. Once familiar with each other’s body language, cats and dogs can play together, and enjoy sleeping together on the sofa.
The importance of this research on cats and dogs may go more than pets—to people who don’t get along well, including neighbors, colleagues at work, and even countries. If cats and dogs can learn to get along, why can’t people do?
36.The underlined word “swimmingly” in Paragraph 1 is closest in meaning to ________.

For many years, Robin Hood and his men had adventures (冒险). They robbed (抢劫) the rich and gave to the poor. They fought the sheriff’s men.
