Little did he know that this change would take him farther than 500,000 kilometers — all on trains. Inspired by a movie he had watched online, Stolley bought a Bahncard 100, a ticket that allows unlimited (无限制的) travel on all Deutsche Bahn trains in Germany for a year. But Stolley didn’t just travel on those trains. He made his home on trains, living there full-time. During the day, he took trips and at night, he slept across the seats on high-speed trains. “I can decide every day where I want to go, whether to the Alps, to a big city or to the sea,” Stolley said. Each morning, Stolley would check the train connections for the day, and decide what journeys he would take based on the weather and his mood (心情). He might stop off at a swimming pool for a shower, or enjoy the views with a hike between train rides. While he didn’t pay rent, Stolley said that he had spent around $10,000 a year on living expenses, including his $6,400 train pass and entry cost to things like swimming pools. But since Stolley was a “Platinum” Deutsche Bahn customer, he could eat from Deutsche Bahn for free. To cover his extra cost, he made a buck on the move by working as a programmer from his laptop In 2023 alone, Stolley spent over 3,700 hours on trains. He also took trains across Europe with an Interrail pass, and travelled as far as Ankara in Turkey. All of his adventures were recorded on his online blog, named “Life on the Train”. 4. C. His train journey lasted over a year. D. He didn’t spend any money. 6. What do the underlined words “a buck” in the last paragraph refer to? A. A choice. B. Paper. C. A difference. D. Money. 7. Which word can best describe Stolley? A. Honest. B. Adventurous. C. Easygoing. D. Warmhearted. C It usually takes a generation or two to measure the full effects of changes in technology and the influence that these changes have on our lives. We have just gone through another industrial revolution (变革) with the creation of the Internet. You wouldn’t know life before the Internet, but it is very different now. Just like when I was a kid, I wouldn’t have known what life was like before television. However, the fact is that we are seeing what is happening now before our very eyes. It is all mostly good, but some of it has a bad influence as well. The past years has seen the rise of social media as the source of communication and information. Our little handheld phones have become our window to the world round the clock, where people can share experiences with others all around the planet. But as with most things, we have seen the downsides of social media. The spreading of false news, online bullying (欺凌), and unpleasant images are just some of the downsides. We are seeing young people losing themselves in their screens by checking things on social media or having thoughts of self-harm. Older generations say “just turn off the phone”, but they don’t realize that young people are conditioned to live in that online world and it is impossible to turn it off. That is why the government is now looking for the prevention by different means. And one of them is raising the age limits for social media users. But how would that work? I find it fun to think that my older Boomer generation is going to try to block social media access and outsmart these teens. We know who will win that one! But as I said at the start, we are seeing the effects of this technology after a couple of generations and we need to do something about it. 8. What is the author’s opinion about the revolution caused by the Internet? A. It will last for a short time. B. It has more bad influences. C. We can do nothing about it. D. We can see it shaping our life. 9. What is an advantage of mobile phones according to the text? A. They make it easy to travel alone. B. They are quite cheap. C. They keep us connected at all times. D. They create new ideas. 10. What does the author want to show by mentioning online bullying? A. The serious health risk. B. The danger of social media. C. The mistakes students make. D. The false news on the Internet. 11. What might the author continue talking about? A. Other harm prevention measures. B. The reason why we take action. C. Parents’doubts about social media. D. The role the Internet can play. D The monarch butterfly (帝王蝶) population has dropped to its second-lowest number on record in Mexican forests this winter. The forests are the insects’ (昆虫) winter home. Their population is now worrisome as the butterfly group is already considered at risk of disappearance. Mexico’s government and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) recently made public the findings of their yearly joint study on the butterflies. The research shows that the monarch butterfly presence has dropped to less than a hectare of forest area. In the mid-1990s, monarch butterflies could be found on around 18 hectares of the forest. The findings show an almost 60 percent drop in the monarch butterfly population compared to last year’s study. It is also the second-lowest population finding since the first study took place more than thirty years ago. Biologists believe the serious situation is caused by the higher-than-usual temperatures and dry conditions in the northwestern US where the butterfly reproduces. The weather conditions have an influence on the growth of milkweed, the plant where the butterflies lay their eggs. When the young arrive, milkweed is their food for a time. In one of the planet’s famous wildlife migrations (迁徙), the butterflies travel south as far as 4,500 kilometers from places as far north as Canada. They spend the winter in warmer Mexico, where millions of the insects stay in trees that protect them from the rain and cold. Monarch butterfly populations change year to year. As recently as 2021 the same study showed a 35% increase to cover around 2.8 hectares. Scientists called for more action to help the insects. Such calls included the need to use less herbicides that may present a danger to milkweed and the need to protect forests. “We can’t lower our guard,” said Jorge Rickards, head of WWF’s Mexico office. 12. How does hot weather influence the monarch butterflies? A. They fly to as far as Canada. B. They likely have less to eat. C. They stop living in tall trees. D. They have to feed more babies. 13. We can know that Mexican forests in winter ________. A. are free from rain B. are full of tourists C. are rich in wildlife D. are often very cold 14. What do scientists suggest about monarch butterflies? A. Taking more steps to protect them. B. Stopping them eating more leaves. C. Studying them as much as possible. D. Checking their number quickly. 15. Which is the most suitable title for the text? A. A New-found Insect in Mexican Forests B. The Purpose of the World Wildlife Fund C. The Secret of Monarch Butterflies’ Travel D. A Big Fall in Monarch Butterfly Population Family meetings are a good way to improve communication among all family members. But as with most things we have seen the downsides of social media. D 9. C 10. B 11. 根据第一段“It usually takes a generation or two to measure the full effects of changes in technology and the influence that these changes have on our lives. You wouldn’t know life before the Internet, but it is very different now. Just like when I was a kid, I wouldn’t have known what life was like before television. However, the fact is that we are seeing what is happening now before our very eyes. I find it fun to think that my older Boomer generation is going to try to block social media access and outsmart these teens. We know who will win that one! But as I said at the start, we are seeing the effects of this technology after a couple of generations and we need to do something about it. (其中之一是提高社交媒体用户的年龄限制。但这是怎么做到的呢?我觉得很有趣的是,我的老一辈婴儿潮一代将试图阻止社交媒体访问,并比这些青少年更聪明。我们都知道谁会赢!但正如我一开始所说的,我们在几代人之后看到了这项技术的影响,我们需要对此做些什么。)”可推断,最后一段阐述了防范社交媒体的危害的措施之一,作者接下来可能会讨论其他措施以防范社交媒体的危害。故选A。 D The monarch butterfly (帝王蝶) population has dropped to its second-lowest number on record in Mexican forests this winter. As recently as 2021, the same study showed a 35% increase to cover around 2.8 hectares. A Big Fall in Monarch Butterfly Population 【答案】12. B 13. C 14. A 15. 根据第四段“Biologists believe the serious situation is caused by the higher-than-usual temperatures and dry conditions in the northwestern US where the butterfly reproduces. The weather conditions have an influence on the growth of milkweed, the plant where the butterflies lay their eggs. When the young arrive, milkweed is their food for a time. (生物学家认为,这种严重的情况是由于蝴蝶繁殖的美国西北部气温高于正常水平和干燥条件造成的。天气条件会影响马利筋的生长,马利筋是蝴蝶产卵的地方。当幼崽出生时,马利筋是它们的食物。)”可推断,高温天气可能会导致帝王蝶的食物减少。故选B。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段中的“They spend the winter in warmer Mexico, where millions of the insects stay in trees that protect them from the rain and cold. To my mind, I have not reached that point. 【答案】36. different 37. talking 38. as 39. takes 40. who##that 41. the 42. were asked 43. activities 44. to use 45. correctly 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。 “as a second language”意为“作为第二外语”。故填as。 故填who/that。 【41题详解】 考查冠词。句意同上。“in the beginning”意为“刚开始”,为固定搭配。故填the。 故填to use。 Dear Frank, ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours, Li Hua 【答案】One possible version: Dear Frank, I am writing to invite you to join me for a trip to Lijiang in Yunnan province during the winter vacation. David, whose school fees (学费) were continuously supported by an old woman anonymously (匿名地), got up late, He got dressed and rushed to the bus stop for his last school bus, his mind full of the day’s schedule. The streets were busy with people heading to work. As he was waiting for the school bus, he noticed a woman worriedly searching through her bag. “Excuse me,” David called out, “do you need some help?” The woman looked up anxiously, “I’ve lost my wallet, and there is something important in it.” Without a second thought, David offered to help. They retraced (折回) the woman’s steps, looking through the sidewalk carefully and asking passersby if they had seen a wallet. At this moment, David’s bus arrived. Looking at his watch, the school bus and the anxious woman, he decided to continue helping her find the wallet despite the pressure of his own schedule. Luckily, several minutes later, they found the small wallet under a car. The woman’s face was a picture of relief (宽慰) as she carefully cleaned the dirt on it. “I can’t thank you enough,” said the woman, opening the wallet and pulling out a piece of paper. “It includes my grandmother’s wish to find the poor student who has been supported by her. She passed away yesterday, and she wanted to send out her last gift.” Then, the woman was sorry for David’s missing the bus so she called a taxi, and said, “I’ll get you to school in no time.” 注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Upon arriving at the school, the woman alone managed to meet the headmaster for David’s being late. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The headmaster led the woman to David’s classroom to give him the gift. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Upon arriving at the school, the woman alone managed to meet the headmaster for David’s being late. The woman was guided to the headmaster’s office, and settled in a comfortable chair. She explained how David had helped her find the lost wallet and the importance of the paper in it. With a look of deep respect, the headmaster said, “I am proud of what David, you and your grandmother did. I promise to help you find the student you are looking for.” Surprisingly, with the information on the paper, they found that the student being supported was exactly David. With excitement, the woman requested to meet David again to deliver this last gift in person. The headmaster led the woman to David’s classroom to give him the gift. The headmaster knocked at the door and went in with the woman. “Excuse me,” the headmaster began, as the students turned their curious gazes towards him. “I have someone very special with me who has a story to share with you all.” With a smile, the woman explained the whole unexpected event in detail. Turning to David, the woman said, “You are a kind boy who deserves all.” Applause for the turn of kindness broke out in the classroom. 感到骄傲:be proud of/ take pride in 【点睛】【高分句型1】She explained how David had helped her find the lost wallet and the importance of the paper in it.
