That cold January night, I was growing sick of my life in San Francisco. There I was walking home alone in the morning after a tiring practice at the theatre. With the opening night only a week away, I was still learning my lines. I was having trouble acting at night at the same time. As I walked, I thought seriously about giving up both acting and San Francisco.
As I walked down empty streets under tall buildings, I felt very small and cold. I began running, both to keep warm and to keep away from any possible robber. Very few people were still out except a few sad-looking homeless people under blankets.
About a block from my apartment, I heard a sound behind me. I turned quickly, half expecting to see someone with a knife or a gun. The street was empty. All I saw was a shining streetlight. Still, the noise had made me nervous, so I started to run faster. Not until I reached my apartment building and unlocked the door did I realize what the noise had been. It had been my wallet falling on the sidewalk.
Suddenly I wasn’t cold or tired any more. I ran out of the door and back to where I’d heard the noise. Although I searched the sidewalk anxiously for fifteen minutes, my wallet was nowhere to be found.
Just as I was about to give up the search when I heard the garbage truck pull up to the sidewalk next to me. When a voice called from the inside, “Alisa Camacho?” I thought I was dreaming. How could this man know my name? The door opened, and out jumped a small red-haired man with an amused look in his eyes. “Is this what you are looking for?” he asked, holding up a small square shape.
It was nearly 3 a.m. by the time I got into bed. I wouldn’t get much sleep that night, but I had got my wallet back. I also had got back some enjoyment of city life. I realized that the city couldn’t be a bad place as long as people were willing to help each other.

Board shoe racing (板鞋竞速) is a traditional sport of the Zhuang people of China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is a unique sport that has three people sharing the same “shoes”. It needs perfect coordination (协作) and concentration.
Board shoe racing is from the Ming Dynasty. It is said that a famous heroine used it as a way to train soldiers against pirates, which greatly improved their fighting results, lifted their fighting spirit and helped them fight back the enemies. Since then, the traditional sport has been passed on from generation to generation.
This sport needs three teammates running in the same pair of shoes, which can consist of two wooden boards and some leather bands to hold the feet in place. These boards are one-meter-long, 9 cm-wide and 3 cm-thick. As shoes for a three-member team, they require good coordination. If one of the three pushes too hard or falls behind, he can cause the whole team to push against each other. In 2015, board shoe racing became an official event at the annual National Minority Traditional Sports Games. It is practiced by both men and women, especially the Zhuang people.
“Board shoe racing is a true team sport, and coordination is the most important requirement,” Liu Jianxin, head coach of the Henan board shoe racing team, said. “In addition to improving physical fitness and speed training, it is more about improving the team members’ cooperation to the highest level. So board shoe racing will be a real hit soon.”

句意:而且,从我们学校到他家的公交车班次很多,只需20分钟左右。根据“there by buses running frequently from our school to his home and…takes only about 20 minutes.”可知,此处从句主语缺失,应用it指代前文提到的“from our school to his home”这段距离。故填it。

Pete hated losing anything. His parents, teachers, and many others said he didn’t know how to lose. If there was a game Pete wasn’t good at, he simply wouldn’t play it. But you could hardly stop him playing the kind of things he was really good at, like table football.
A new kid started at Pete’s school, and his name was Albert. Albert was a cracking table football player, and soon they challenged each other to a game. Pete prepared for the match with great seriousness. Albert, on the other hand, walked about the whole time, smiling and telling jokes about all sorts of things. But on the football table, Albert scored goals again and again. However, Albert was paying so little attention to the match that Pete tried to change the scoreboard while Albert was looking elsewhere. Pete made a big thing of his win, but it didn’t seem to matter to Albert. “It’s been fun. We should play again some other time,” said Albert.
On that day, people at school talked about Pete’s great victory (胜利). But that night, Pete didn’t feel so happy. The next day Pete saw Albert playing basketball. He lost time after time. But that happy smile never left his face.
Pete began learning that you didn’t have to have a scoreboard to enjoy a game. What you had to do was to enjoy the game, trying to do it well, and enjoying each aspect (方面) of it.
52. What was Pete’s problem?
______________________________
53. How did Albert prepare for the game?
______________________________
54. How did Pete win the match?

It is said that a famous heroine used it as a way to train soldiers against pirates which greatly improved their fighting results, lifted their fighting spirit and helped them fight back the enemies.
8. What is the most important in board shoe racing?
A. Rules. B. Coordination. C. Speed. D. Physical fitness.
9. Which of the following is FALSE according to Paragraph 3?
A. Both men and women can practice board shoe racing.

A. Worried. B. Doubtful. C. Surprised. D. Confident.
11. What is the suitable title of the passage?
A. Board shoe racing, a true team sport, is more popular.
B. Board shoe racing is a traditional sport.
C. Board shoe racing has a long history.
D. Board shoe racing requires a lot.
