I spent a term studying in London. Even though we speak the same language, English people and Americans are very different. They think that we Americans are, friendly and that we want to be successful and rich. And I think the British are quiet and gentle. I love the lifestyle there. Going out for afternoon tea was fun, and I always did that with my friends. And I really love the old buildings. We don’t have anything that old in the United States, so it is pretty amazing! By the way, I’ve also been to Australia once. The buildings there aren’t so attractive either. The British also have a different sense of humor. Their TV shows are really funny. I’d like to say my experience was a pleasant one. In fact, I’m saving up money so I can go back there again.

Once I took the plane by myself. It was clear that the kid across from me was flying alone, too. She was singing a song to herself softly. Imagining if my two daughters were traveling alone, they might feel helpless and want others to talk with them, I decided to make conversation.
“What are you singing about, honey?” “Oh that,” she said, clearly happy to have someone to talk to. “Well, Grandma’s always surprised when I visit by plane. You know, how far you can come and how fast. I don’t think they had many planes when she was little. I mean, seriously, they had a horse. Anyway, Grandma would tell me that she’d think of me from time to time and say to herself, ‘I wonder where you are. I wonder where you are going.’ Then she’d always add, ‘Someplace important, I’m sure!’ So I made it into a song for us. I love my grandma.”
“Right now I’m on my way to Grandma’s house and I’m just singing that song to myself and thinking the same about her, ‘I wonder where you are. I wonder where you are going.’ That’s all.”
“Wow,” I said. “That’s really sweet. So, is it just you and Grandma or is your mom or dad coming out later?”
“Oh, everyone will be there and Mom’s s been there for two weeks already, making arrangements (安排).”
“Arrangements?”
“For Grandma’s funeral (葬礼).”
All of a sudden, I was like being hit in the stomach. It seemed something was stuck in my throat (喉咙) and I realized what she’d been singing, “I wonder where you are...” about her Grandma who’d been gone.
Sometimes when I see a family at the supermarket or ice cream stand, I’ll think of that kid and start singing her song — I wonder where you are. I wonder where you’re going. Someplace important, I’m sure.

There is a large brown chair looking out over the sea. It’s too big for your kitchen but small enough to climb onto, and the views are great. On one side of the chair is the word “Relax”, and on the other side it says “Smile”. In the middle it says “Southern Point of Europe.”
Welcome to the Greek island of Gavdos. Although it’s thought to be the southernmost piece of Europe, it’s not one of Greek better-known islands—it’s closer to Africa than to Athens, the Greek capital. The Canary Islands, which are part of Spain, are further south, but they’re usually considered to be part of Africa.
Gavdos, which is home to just one school, one policeman and fewer than 70 citizens, has played an important part in stories for centuries. For different reasons, it’s still featured in (是……的特征)stories today. Not far south of the large island of Crete, it was once named as Cauda. Some people still think it might be the place where Odysseus was imprisoned(关押)in Homer’s The Odyssey, although most experts don’t agree.
That doesn’t stop Greeks and others who love the island sharing the idea! In fact, it was used a little like a prison(监狱)in the 20th century because it was so far away. Now, that’s exactly why travelers choose to take a trip there in summer, looking for a different beach holiday, far from hotels and people.
But now Gavdos often appears in the news stories. In 2024, hundreds of people arrived on the island from Africa and Asia. These are people who hope that Gavdos is the next chapter(章) in stories of their own.
28. What can be learned about the chair mentioned in paragraph 1?
A. It is set by the locals. B. It offers people a place to take a rest.
C. It is impossible to climb onto. D. It allows people to admire beautiful sea views.
29. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A Where Gavdos is. B. What Gavdos looks like.
C. Why people love Gavdos. D. What people think of Gavdos.
30. What attracts tourists lo come to Gavdos?
A. It mixes African and European cultures.
B. There is a famous prison on it.
C. It provides a chance to enjoy a peaceful holiday.
D. There are many unknown things for them to discover.
31. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To tell a story. B. To share his experience.
C. To introduce an island. D. To give suggestions on traveling.

In fact, it was used a little like a prison(监狱)in the 20th century because it was so far away. Now, that’s exactly why travelers choose to take a trip there in summer, looking for a different beach holiday, far from hotels and people.(这并不能阻止希腊人和其他热爱这座岛屿的人分享这一想法!

When you’re in high school, deciding what you’d like to study at college is not always easy. We may choose to balance (平衡) our own hopes and dreams with those of our parents, as well as think about the courses that may help us to find work in the future. But what helps us to make our final decision?
Researchers from South Korea have been trying to find out the influence that conversations with parents have on high school students’ course choices. And they think they might have found a pattern (模式). The study showed that the more time children spend talking with their parents about their choices, the more likely they are to study medicine, education, physical education, art or music after finishing high school.
The researchers looked at information of almost 1,300 students who were in the second year of high school in 2016, and followed them as they moved on to college. They found that students who often talked with their parents about their interests and their future studies were more likely to choose courses that need quite specialized ability instead of courses like humanities and social sciences.
The research team said that South Korean parents were now having more of an influence on their children’s choices about college. “Talking with parents greatly influences students’ decisions on whether to go to college,” they said.
But there were other important factors (因素), too. Children with richer parents were more likely to go to college, and students with higher grades in math were also more likely to go to college. But grades in Korean and English were not so important in deciding whether or not a student went on to study at college.
32. What can we learn from the study?
A. Choosing a college is usually hard for children.
B. Children should spend more time with parents.
C. Children refuse to share their dreams with their parents.
D. Communication with parents is influential in children’s decisions.
33. How did the researchers carry out their study?
A. By researching collected information. B. By asking students questions.
C. By recording students’ interests. D. By following an example.
34. Which subject has an important influence on students’ entering college?
A. Science. B. Math. C. Korean. D. English.
35. What can be the best title for the text?
A. Parents Help Students Make Belter Choices
B. Children Need Independence in Making Choices
C. Study Looks at Parents’ Influence on Children’s College Choices
D. Study Finds Out Children Have Difficulty Making College Choices
【答案】32. D 33. A 34. B 35. C

My parents wanted me to stay at home or choose a project near home. But I preferred to choose the camp abroad, though fear and uncertainty might be along the way. After several family discussions, I finally decided to take on this solo journey.

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On Saturday morning, Dad promised to take Nathan and Alex to his office, and then to have dinner nearby that evening. Alex got up early in the morning, put on his red sportswear and looked in the mirror again and again. A happy little boy in red sportswear was reflected (映出) in the mirror.
It was just before seven when the two brothers, who had been at the office all the day, decided to take a walk. Then the boys stepped into the dim (昏暗的) hall. Suddenly, Alex jumped back into the break room, asking quietly “Didn’t Dad say we were the only people here?”
“No one else is here, Alex,” his brother said. “Why are you in such a low voice?”
Alex said, “There was someone standing at the end of the hall looking at us. I think he was watching us!”
Nathan sighed (叹气). His little brother could be a real pain sometimes, especially when his imagination ran wild. But Nathan decided that he would agree with Alex just to try to calm him down. Nathan found a pencil and a notebook. “Why don’t you sit down and tell me what this guy looked like?” he suggested.
“He was huge and dressed all in red! And he was really mean-looking, with eyes that looked like they were on fire!” Alex said.
Something Alex said made Nathan a little doubtful. “Let me take a look,” he said.
Slowly, the brothers stepped toward the doorway. When Nathan saw a movement at the far end of the hall, he didn’t even stop to see what the person looked like.
“Run, Alex!” Nathan cried, holding his brother’s hand and raced down the hallway.
“What’s going on boys?” Dad asked.
Nathan and Alex started talking at the same time. Both boys were breathless, but they told Dad about the man down the hall.
“And you said this man was really huge?” Dad asked. Alex nodded. “Well then, let’s go and take a look,” Dad said.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

There, in the mirror, Alex saw another Alex looking at him.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Even with their father along, the boys felt quite nervous. Their hearts beat fast as they walked back down the dark hall. Alex held Dad’s hand tightly, looking worried. Nathan kept thinking about the red figure. “Don’t be afraid, boys,” Dad said. “We’ll see what’s there and make sure it’s okay.” He led them back to where they had last seen the man. Dad turned on a light. He looked around the corner to the end of the hall. Then he asked the boys to take a look. Suddenly, they seemed to know the truth-there was a mirror.
There, in the mirror, Alex saw another Alex looking at him. At that moment, Alex realized that it was his own reflection. The mirror made them look different in the dim light. It was like there was another kid there! Dad smiled. “I guess neither of you noticed the new mirror at the end of the hall.” Looking at the red sportswear on his body, Alex smiled embarrassedly. Dad put his hands on their shoulders. “Our minds can make us scared in the dark. But now we know the truth, and we can relax.” They went back to the break room, laughing and talking, and felt happy the mystery was solved.

“What’s going on, boys?” Dad asked.
Nathan and Alex started talking at the same time. Both boys were breathless, but they told Dad about the man down the hall.
“And you said this man was really huge?” Dad asked. Alex nodded. “Well then, let’s go and take a look,” Dad said.
