B Bier was the kid with snakes in his pockets. He once hid six snakes in a soda can under his mother’s car seat while returning from a family vacation, which made his mother ban the wild reptiles (爬行动物). But under the guidance of Frey, a teacher who developed a school environmental education program in the state, his outdoor adventures continued. Bier knows what lives in the woods — things most people don’t see or consider. Things like fungi (真菌). They’re not animals or plants, but Bier notes that they are doing a lot of the decomposition (分解) work on the earth. He also casts his eyes on plant diversity, which the general public take little notice of. “When you drive down the highway, if you’re not a naturalist, it’s just green stuff going by the window,” Bier said. Bier served as director of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, which conducts fieldwork on some endangered species and their conservation. He surveyed every county in Western Pennsylvania and documented the rarest creatures and plants. His fieldwork and recommendations led to the conservancy preserving more than 153.000 acres of species-rich land in Western Pennsylvania during his almost 43-year in office, according to Carrow, the conservancy’s vice president. “It’s not often that somebody can say one’s work will be appreciated in the future for all people, for all time. His work is quite remarkable,” she said. Bier has recently retired. He lives in a primitive cabin at Todd Nature Reserve. He catches crayfish in the river, and heads to the forest and fields, where wildlife awaits. He grows most of his food, raises sheep, a cow for milking and chickens, and still cuts firewood to heat his home. “People can be in better touch with nature. It’s like the moment when you look at the stars and realize there’s something bigger than you and Netflix,” Bier said. 24. What can we learn about Bier from the first paragraph? A. He ran into danger on a vacation. B. He had interest in nature. C. He got support from his mother. D. He started a school program. 25. What is the public’s reaction to the plant diversity according to Bier? A. They are used to it. B. They are blind to it. C. They are afraid of losing it. D. They are amazed at its value. 26. What can we infer from paragraph 3? A. Everyone can be a naturalist. B. Preserving the natural world is urgent. C. Bier’s passion for nature has paid off. D. Some species could drive the ecosystem. 27. What is Bier’s life like after retirement? A. Close to nature. B. Full of risks. C. Tough but satisfying. D. Busy and unpredictable. C To persist, life must reproduce. Scientists at the University of Vermont, Tufts University, and the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University have discovered an entirely new form of biological reproduction and applied their discovery to create the first-ever, self-replicating (自我复制的) living robots. Named Xenobots after the African clawed frog from which scientists take their stem cells, the machines are less than 0.04 inches wide-small enough to travel inside human bodies. They can walk and swim, survive for weeks without food, and work together in groups. They even have regenerative capabilities; when the scientists sliced into one robot, it healed by itself and kept moving. The Xenobots could potentially be used toward a host of tasks. Xenobots could be used to clean up radioactive waste and collect microplastics in the oceans. Some Xenobots had holes in their center, which could potentially be used to transport drugs or medicines. Traditional robots “degrade (降解) over time and can produce harmful ecological and health side effects,” researchers said in the study, which was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. As biological machines, Xenobots are more environmentally friendly and safer for human health. Aside from these immediate practical tasks, Xenobots could also help researchers to learn more about cell biology — opening the doors to future advancement in human health and longevity. While the prospect of self-replicating biotechnology could spark concern, the researchers said that the living machines were entirely contained in a lab and easily destroyed, as they are biodegradable and regulated by experts. “There are many things that are possible if we take advantage of this kind of plasticity (可塑性) and ability of cells to solve problems,” said Joshua Bongard, one of the lead researchers at the University of Vermont. 28. Which of the following best explains “regenerative” underlined in paragraph 2? A. Fighting disease. B. Replacing old cells. C. Self-cleaning regularly. D. Recovering and growing again. 29. What can we learn about Xenobots from paragraph 3? A. They can be widely applied to curing diseases. B. They can serve well the research on human health. C. They are specially designed to collect radioactive waste. D. They are harmless to the environment by degrading plastics. 30. What is Bongar’s attitude towards the self-replicating biotechnology? A. Positive. B. Doubtful. C. Indifferent. D. Ambiguous. 31. What does the text mainly talk about? A. An experiment on African clawed frogs. B. The trend of developing biotechnology. C. An application of a machine in medicine. D. The invention of the first self-reproduction robots. D Language is the most important tool for human communication and is essential for life in our society. Dr. Sabrina Turker from the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig says, “Despite a lot of research on how the brain processes language, we still don’t know much about how language is organized in the human brain. Most of what we know comes from small studies with only a few subjects, and these findings have not been confirmed in other studies.” This meta- analysis aims to help change that. Based on many neuroscientific (神经科学的) experiments using brain imaging techniques and involving thousands of subjects, this analysis gives us a deeper understanding of how the brain organizes language. By combining results from different studies, researchers can see which parts of the brain are active during various language tasks. This approach helps us understand the basic principles of how the brain processes language. The researchers not only studied language as a process in general, but also clearly addressed subordinate (从属的) processes: the meaning of language at the level of words and sentences (semantics); the phonetic structure of language (phonology); grammar and the arrangement of linguistic elements (syntax); the phonetic structure of language at sentence level, including melody, into nation and rhythm (prosody). Besides the well- known language areas in the left side of the brain, the researchers discovered that parts of the brain below the cerebral cortex and the cerebellum also play an important role in language processes. Gesa Hartwigsen, Professor of Cognitive and Biological Psychology at Leipzig University, said, “Our findings may serve future studies involving language recovery after brain injury, for example caused by stroke. And they could help to improve models of language processing.” 32. What does the study focus on? A. Why language is important. B. How the brain organises language. C. How the brain influences a person. D. Why we control the language abilities. 33. How did researchers draw their conclusion? A. By measuring subjects’ brain activity. B. By building a database for many experiments. C. By analyzing quantities of experimental data. D. By conducting interviews with hundreds of subjects. 34. What do we know about the study from paragraph 3? A. It is simple. B. It is specific. C. It is limited. D. It is confusing. 35. What is the scientific value of the study? A. Treating brain injury. B. Finding the cause of stroke. C. Helping language recovery. D. Improving language teaching. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Parents provide care, protection, love, and support, but it can be easy to forget how much they do on a daily basis. Here are some nice things you can do for your parents to express your gratitude and respect. Say “thank you”. 36 This not only includes the big stuff, like putting a roof over your head and feeding you, but also the small things, like doing your laundry or driving you to your friend’s house. Thank you.” Apologize when you do something wrong. No one is perfect all the time. 38 Instead of trying to dismiss what happened, own up to your mistake and make a genuine apology. Ask your parents about their day. One afternoon this July, it rained heavily. He was driving along the busiest section of the highway during the downpour when he saw the traffic slowing down in front of him. Some cars stopped and bypassed one lane (车道). Willis initially thought there was a car crash, so he slowed down his car to approach. But he soon found out the source of the delay was an animal wandering on the wet road. And he spotted that was a dog when he got close enough. There was a large dog that looked like a brown German shepherd (牧羊犬) in the middle lane. The weather was at its worst, and the gray sky with the heavy rain gave the highway minimum visibility. The delay might cause a traffic jam and of course it was very dangerous to let the dog wandering in the middle of the highway. He immediately turned on his blue lights because people usually slow down when they see the blue lights and called into the radio so they knew where he was. He pulled over, got out , and whistled to draw the dog's attention. It seemed as if the dog knew Willis was its lifesaver. It walked to Willis and his car.Once the dog was in the car, Willis pulled into a parking lot nearby, where he called Petworks Animal Service. While waiting, he noticed the dog wearing a collar with its name “Luna”. Willis recorded a short video of the dog. Then an animal control officer came and took Luna to the shelter. Willis came back to work. Watching cars travelling on the highway through the window glass, he thought he might do something to let the dog's owner know their pet was found safe. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 After work, Willis posted the video online with a brief description attached. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Days later, news came that Luna's owner had been found and would visit him. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 高三英语试卷参考答案 试题答案 1—5 CBBAC 6—10 ABCAA 11—15 ACABC 16—20 BCBAB 21—23 DBA 24—27BBCA 28—31 DBAD 32—35 BCBC 36—40 DEGBF 41—45 ADBCB 46—50 ACBCD 51—55 DBADA 56. falling 57. He wrote about how he found Luna wandering on the highway during the heavy rain and how she was now safe at the Petworks Animal Service. He also included the contact information of the shelter, hoping that Luna’s owner would see the post and come forward. The video quickly gained attention, with many people sharing it and expressing their gratitude for Willis’s actions. Days later, news came that Luna’s owner had been found and would visit him. Willis received a call from the shelter informing him that Luna’s owner had seen the video and was overjoyed to know that Luna was safe. The owner, a woman named Sarah, had been desperately searching for Luna for days. When she arrived at the shelter, she was reunited with Luna, who greeted her with excited barks and wagging tail. Sarah thanked Willis profusely for his kindness and quick thinking. Willis felt a deep sense of satisfaction knowing he had helped reunite a lost pet with its owner. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
