Today was my first day at senior high and it was hard. In high school, you have 4 minutes to get to your next class. My high school is very big and those 4 minutes to go from one class to another really isn’t a lot of time. Today I had to go from one end of the building to the other to get from science class to math class. I wanted to go to my locker first and leave my science book there, but that took time. I was worried about being late, and I was. The math teacher said, “Just be on time tomorrow, or you’ll have detention (放学后留校).”

The teacher said to just write what you think, and we’ll pay attention to punctuation (标点) later. We could write a paragraph or a poem, and I wrote a poem about myself. I thought it was a good poem, and the teacher said I had used good images (意象) to communicate my feelings.
Lunch was very hurried. I arrived at the dining room with 12 minutes to eat. I sat with people I didn’t know, and everyone was eating quickly. After lunch I signed up for a computer club. I need to learn how to use a computer well because my social studies teacher says it is the one skill you need in every class.

While limited within the walls of the educational places, we openly explore other cultures of the world! We come to know that ours is not the only culture. Other cultures have valuable things to share, enriching our own. Education also makes us want to travel and exchange with various cultures, getting more experience.

The more education you have, the more chances you will get to improve the quality of your life as you have a better job and earn a higher salary.
When you're skillful and knowledgeable, you gain access to people of similar backgrounds and tastes. It means a good education leads to excellent networking. Good networking can benefit you a lot in your later life.

C. You can work well with your coworkers. D. You get to know excellent people with similar interests.

Ecotourism(生态旅游): A Different Way to Travel
Are you attracted to obscure(偏远的)places? Do you prefer to vacation away from other tourists? Are you careful to take only memories and to leave only footprints? If you answered yes to more than one of these questions, you just might be an ecotourist.
Ecotourists are people who want to experience the unspoiled natural world and leave it that way when they return home. This trend started in the 1990s and ecotourism is now growing three times faster than the tourism industry at large. The Ecuador’s remote Amazon Basin(盆地) is contributing to that expansion, and it gives a snapshot of what ecotourism looks like.
At the Ecolodge, a small group of cabins(小屋) sits Kapawi Ecolodge in the middle of the Achuar people’s reserve(保护区) and is only reached by air. From here, visitors can explore parts of the Amazon rainforest seen by few outsiders. As they do local Achuar guides explain how the forest is like their supermarket, where they find food, clothing, medicine and tools. As a result, tourists learn to appreciate the local culture as well as the natural environment.
The owners of Kapawi pay monthly rent to the Achuar people, but they also train the community to run and manage the lodge. They have agreed on a plan to turn the operation over to the Achuar completely by 2011.The owners are working to make ecotourism benefit and empower the local people.
You probably won’t start your own ecolodge, but you can be an ecotourist if you follow these guidelines: Protect the environment; Support local businesses; Respect the local customs and traditions.
The world is full of fascinating places to visit. As an ecotourist, you can enjoy them yourself and make sure that they remain beautiful for future generations as well.

可知,完美是不可能的,真正重要的是要努力让自己变得更好,并有信心追求梦想,结合下文中的“Make a series of goals to help reach your dreams. 以及“Give yourself some “me time” each day. 可知,下文中讲述的是一些方法或者建议,由此可知,此空处应是引出下文,E选项“The following are some tips for you to deal with the imperfection of life.
根据本段的主题句“Make a series of goals to help reach your dreams. (制定一系列的目标来帮助你实现梦想。)”可知,本段主要讲述的是制定一系列小目标实现梦想,结合空后的“You will not become the most popular kid at school, the best soccer player, or an award-winning filmmaker overnight, but you can start taking steps now to make these goals a reality. (你不可能一夜之间成为学校里最受欢迎的孩子,最好的足球运动员,或者获奖的电影制作人,但你现在可以开始采取措施,让这些目标成为现实。)”讲述的是要实现目标不是一夜之间的事情,需要开始采取行动,逐步实现这些目标,C选项“Perfection only comes one small step at a time. (不积跬步,无以至千里)”讲述的内容是与空后的内容吻合,只有一步一步来,才能达成完美,实现梦想,符合上下文语意连贯,且与本段的主题一致。故选C项。
【18题详解】
分析语篇可知,此处应为本段的主题句,其他段落的主题句为祈使句,所以此处应为祈使句,根据空后的“Volunteering, tutoring a friend, and helping your parents around the house aren’t just nice things to do, and they can improve your own well-being. (志愿服务、辅导朋友、帮助父母做家务不仅是美好的事情,它们还能改善你自己的幸福。)”可知,本段主要是建议帮助别人,这样可以让自己幸福,B选项“Make time to help others. (抽时间帮助别人)”为祈使句,且讲述的内容与空后的内容吻合,可以作为全段主题句。故选B项。
【19题详解】
根据空前的“Give yourself some “me time” each day. Each day, take 15 minutes or more to yourself. (每天给自己一些“私人时间”。每天留15分钟或更多的时间给自己。)”可知,此处讲述的是给自己留出15分钟的时间,G选项“You could read, listen to music, go for a walk, or simply lay in bed. (你可以读书,听音乐,散步,或者只是躺在床上)”讲述的是这15分钟可以用来干的事情,与上文构成顺承关系,符合语境。故选G项。
【20题详解】
根据本段的主题句“Remember that life isn’t perfect and that is a good thing. (记住,生活不是完美的,而且这是一件好事)”可知,生活不完美,F选项“There will always be mistakes, setbacks, misunderstandings, and bad luck. (总是会有错误、挫折、误解和坏运气)”讲述的内容是对这种不完美作出阐述,符合上下文语意连贯,且与空后的“But these issues are all chances to improve yourself, and how you react to the bad times is far more important than the bad times themselves.
