Camping in the Grand Canyon gives you a totally different feel. You'll get more room, more silence and more time to enjoy the wideopen spaces. Why should you camp on the edge of the Grand Canyon? The night sky is beyond compare, not to mention the sunrise and sunset. There is a beautiful unmarked trail (小路) nearby. It meanders (蜿蜒) through the trees and along the south edge of the canyon, with the most beautiful views of the Colorado River below. I made my way to the canyon edge for both sunrise and sunset every day. Both shows were spectacular, but sunsets were pretty crowded everywhere we went. Sunrise was a different story—perfectly quiet, except for the singing birds. I set my alarm for 4:20 am, left the kids sleeping in their tent, and made my way through the park each morning. I'm sure there are lots of beautiful places to watch the sun come up on the edge, but my favourite was Moran Point, which provided a great view of both east and west. We were lucky enough to witness the full moon setting one morning while the sun bathed the canyon in its warm light. The Grand Canyon is a magical but busy place. If you like your wilderness experience to be wild, consider visiting in the offseason, between October and April. The South Kaibab Trail offers wonderful views and relative silence for not much effort, but be sure to pack sunscreen, snacks and lots of water. Even meandering along the South Edge Trail from Grand Canyon Village will allow you to escape the groups of visitors. 篇章导读:本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了作者在美国大峡谷野营时看到的美景,并分享了他的野营体验。 1.Why do people camp on the edge of the Grand Canyon? The tiny owl was lying on the ground, with one of its wings badly hurt and its big, brown eyes looking helplessly at the teens. Lucy and Max were animal lovers and they knew they had to do something to help the poor, little creature. “We have to save this baby owl, Max,” Lucy said as she knelt down beside the bird. Max nodded. “I agree. But where can we take it?” Lucy thought for a moment and then remembered a wildlife rehabilitation center located a few miles away. They quickly placed the baby owl in the small box they had planned to put strawberries in. Max took off his shirt to cover the box to keep the bird warm. They carefully placed the box in their backpack and headed out to the center. The journey was not without its challenges. The skies suddenly darkened and the rain began to pour down, wetting Lucy and Max completely in seconds. But they were determined to save the baby owl, and so they trudged on, searching for shelter from the rain. They finally found a big tree to hide under and huddled together, trying to keep the box dry. As the rain continued to fall, Lucy and Max looked at the baby owl in the box. It was so small and weak. They felt a sense of determination and protectiveness towards the little bird. They knew that they had to save it, no matter what. Gradually, the rain got weaker and Lucy and Max continued their journey. They walked along a winding path, which was wet and slippery. They had to use some tree branches as walking sticks to provide them with extra support and to ensure their stability. Lucy and Max finally approached the wildlife rehabilitation center, wet and dirty. They were greeted by a kind, elderly lady who was the head of the center. She immediately took the baby owl from their hands and examined its wing. The lady told them that the owl had a broken bone and would need to stay at the center for a few weeks to receive proper care and treatment. The two teens were praised by the center staff for their love and care for wild animals. The weeks passed quickly, and one day Lucy and Max received a call from the head of the rehabilitation center. They were told that the baby owl had fully recovered. It was now time for the little bird to be released back into the wild. They were invited to witness the wonderful scene. Lucy and Max were overjoyed to see the owl fly away, soaring high into the sky. They watched in awe as the bird disappeared into the distance, free once again. From that day forward, Lucy and Max learned that with a little bit of love and hard work, anything is possible. They also learned that even the smallest act of kindness can have a big impact. 1.huddle/'hʌdl/v. The lady told them that the owl had a broken bone and would need to stay at the center for a few weeks to receive proper care and treatment. 本句主干是The lady told them that ...,that引导宾语从句,从句中第一个and连接并列的谓语had__a__broken__bone和would__need__to__...;for a few weeks是时间状语,to receive ...
