专题05 阅读理解 (23-24八年级上·天津和平·期中)Is eggshell’s colour related to nutritional value? Chicken eggs come in many colours, but there are two that we often see at the supermarket: brown and white. Though brown eggs are often more expensive, the colour of an eggshell says nothing about the quality of inside. According to scientists, the only difference between brown eggs and white eggs lies in the breed (品种) of the chicken that lays them. You may have heard people say that white-feathered chickens always lay white eggs and brown chickens lay brown eggs. While it’s true that a chicken’s colouring can say something about its eggs, you shouldn’t be looking at the feathers only. The colour of a hen’s earlobes (耳垂) is actually the best indicator (标志) of what colour is eggs will be. If it’s white, the chicken’s eggs will likely be white, and if it’s darker, they will likely be brown. This trick even works for Araucana chickens, which have green-blue earlobes and lay matching eggs. Another wrong idea about eggs is that brown eggs are better for you or more“natural” than the white ones. This may have come from the fact that more expensive organic eggs tend to be brown, and brown foods (like whole grain items) are usually healthier than the processed white versions. But an eggshell’s colour has nothing to do with the egg’s nutritional value (营养价值). Any difference in labels and pricing on egg cartons comes down to the breed of the chicken. White Leghorn chickens—which lay white eggs—produce more eggs on cheaper diets, so they are favoured by factory farms. Breeds that lay brown eggs, like Rhode Island Red chickens, require higher quality food and lay higher quality eggs. But given the right care and food, white egg-laying chickens can just as easily lay higher quality eggs as the brown egglaying chickens. 1.The colour of the chicken eggs mainly depends on ________. A.feather B.earlobes C.eyes D.feet 2.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage? A.An eggshell’s colour has improved the egg’s value. B.Brown eggs are much better than white ones. A.the price of eggs B.the size of eggs C.the weight of eggs D.the shapes of eggs 4.We can learn from the passage that ________. A.chickens which lay white eggs can also lay higher quality eggs B.chickens which lay brown eggs can produce more eggs C.common chickens can lay much higher quality eggs D.Araucana chickens can only lay brown eggs 5.What’s the passage mainly about? A.How to help chickens produce more eggs. B.The differences between brown eggs and white eggs. C.How to develop high quality eggs. D.The difficulties chickens are meeting. In New York you can travel around the city by underground, bus, taxi and car. The underground train runs on the railway lines under the city. It crosses the city at different points and goes to all parts of the city. Travelling by underground is the fastest way to get around the city. The second way to travel around the city is by bus. Why does your teacher use songs to teach you English? There is a scientific reason(原因) for this. Researchers(研究者) are studying the relationship(关系) between music and remembering a foreign language. “Singing could be a new way of learning, especially for a foreign language. The brain(脑) likes to remember things in a catchy(悦耳易记的) and relaxing way. For example, children can remember difficult words quickly when they are in a song,” said Dr. Karen Ludke. If children find it difficult to learn foreign languages, this new way may help. On his blog, Dr. Ludke wrote “A listen-and-repeat(重复) singing way can help to learn foreign languages and open the door for future research in this area.” Many language teachers know the importance of music and they often use it in teaching and learning. Hua Zhuying, a teacher at a Chinese language school in Washington DC, likes using songs in teaching Chinese. She said, “I use music all the time to teach children Chinese. For little kids usually we use English songs but teach them the Chinese lyrics(歌词). Not only does it work, but it is fun for children. Sometimes I think if I learned English that way when I was young, maybe I could speak English much better.” Our brain likes music in learning languages, especially for remembering. A pony is a small horse. Like horses, ponies have a lot of hair. The most well-known is the small Shetland pony, only as tall as a six-year-old child! Though Shetland ponies are small, they are not weak at all, with twice the power of most heavy horses. For many centuries Shetland ponies lived in the open, with only their thick hair protecting them from the cold. Ponies eat grass, oats and bran and they also love carrots and apples. They don’t eat meat. Neither do horses. Like horses, ponies can sleep both lying down and standing up. Ponies are very playful. That is why they get on so well with children! They are happy to play outside with their friends and go for rides. They enjoy having fun as much as their riders. Like you and your friends, every pony is different. Some are quiet and some are cheeky (嬉皮笑脸的). Some are hard-working and others can be a bit lazy. Ponies are sensitive and often try to cheer you up when you feel sad. Just like you, they love to be spoken to kindly and not to be shouted at! A pony makes a great playmate but remember that it is not a toy. It is a living animal that needs care and lots of loving attention. You have to learn how to feed it every day, how to clean its feet so that they can stay healthy, and how to dry it after a workout so it won’t catch a cold. 1.According to Paragraph 2, the Shetland pony ________. Some scientists at Ohio State University found that sad movies can make people happier. They showed their study in a magazine called Communication Reaches. Scientists asked 361 college students to watch a sad movie. The movie tells a story of two lovers who were separated. They died during World War II at the end of the movie. The 361 college students answered questions from the scientists before, after and three times during the movie to find out their different feeling, such as sadness. According to the result, scientists found out that people felt better after watching the sad movie. Scientists believed this was because the movie made them think about their lives. Compared to those of unlucky lovers, their lives were full of hope. “I want to live my life to the fullest, and this movie made me think a lot,” one student wrote. Silvia Knobloch-Westerwick, the head of the study, said that bad moods (情绪) would make people more thoughtful. “Good moods are usually a sign that everything is fine. You don’t have to worry, and you don’t have to think about your problems in your life,” she said. “But bad moods make you feel terrible. So, seeing a sad movie may make you feel bad, but that will make you think more about yourself and be full of hope in the future.” 1.Why did the scientist ask the college students to watch a sad movie? A.To help them make more friends. B.To make them feel better about themselves. C.To find out how they felt after watching it. D.To ask them share their feelings. 2.How many times did the students answer questions from the scientists? A.Six times. B.Five times. C.Four times. A.happy-scared-sad B.sad-excited-happy C.terrible-lucky-hopeful D.terrible-serious-sad (23-24八年级上·广东深圳·期中)Thomas was sent to spend the summer holidays with his father, Christian, in a small island in the south of France. Christian is an ornithologist (鸟类学家) and works for a project to help a group of endangered geese fly from Norway to France in a light aircraft (飞行器). Thomas decided to join his father to help him with the task. To guide the geese to France, Thomas had to use a skill called imprinting. This is about letting the geese live with humans from a young age, so they learn to recognize them as their leaders. Thomas spent a lot of time with the geese, talking to them, and even sleeping in the same room as them. This helped the geese build close connection with him and see him as their leader. Once the geese were comfortable with Thomas, they were ready to make their first flight with their leader—Thomas. He carefully put the geese into the plane. As they took off, the geese became uneasy and started to flap their wings, which could make the aircraft unstable. To solve this problem, Thomas used his knowledge of birds to create a peaceful environment for the geese. As they flew across the ocean, the team met unexpected weather conditions, including strong winds and turbulence (湍流). How do so many people move on their way to work and school? In New York you can travel around the city by underground, bus, taxi and car. The underground train runs on the railway lines under the city. It crosses the city at different points and goes to all parts of the city. Travelling by underground is the fastest way to get around the city. The second way to travel around the city is by bus. It is a slower way to travel. This is because the bus moves on the road on which traffic is often heavy. You can also travel around the city by taxi. This is very expensive, but the taxi will take you to every place you wish to go to. If traffic is heavy, the taxi will be slow. During the mornings and afternoons, there are rush hours. Scientists asked 361 college students to watch a sad movie. The movie tells a story of two lovers who were separated. They died during World War II at the end of the movie. The 361 college students answered questions from the scientists before, after and three times during the movie to find out their different feeling, such as sadness. Thomas remained calm, using his knowledge of birds to guess their reactions (反应) in advance and ensured the geese remain calm and safe.
