四、阅读理解(每小题2分,共30分)
Nearly every parent says that we never grow up. In fact, we are maybe 16 or 17 years old. In their eyes, we are always little ones and always do wrong things. For example, when I need to stay at home alone, they always worry about me and my life without them.
Most parents always think that they have offered the best things to make their children live in a comfortable world. They buy their children pretty clothes, cool shoes, strange but expensive school things, and always a thousand-yuan-cost bike. They think that they have done everything they can do for their dear little children. In return, they only want their little ones to give them good grades in the exams.
Although parents have done what they could, their little babies still can’t understand them. Why? Do they still want more material (物质的) things? No! They just want a true family. What does a true family mean? I think in a true family, we can hide ourselves from the outside cold world. From here, we can get warmth, and we can get happiness.
So I think that parents should save their money and sit down to talk with their children. And the child and his parents could understand each other better. Then, no boy will be a little boy any longer. That will be great help to both the parents and their child.

A.A warm home. B.How most parents help their children.
C.What children really want. D.Most children always do wrong things.
I used to hate my mother because she worked a lot and didn’t spend much time with me. Then one Friday morning I took part in a three-day self-help program for teenagers. Whether you believe it or not, that weekend changed my life.
About 100 other teenagers were there. During the first two days, I met a lot of great people. I was glad because I made so many friends there. On Sunday, the leader did an interesting exercise called “Chocolate or Toys”. He asked a girl which she liked better, chocolate or toys. She chose chocolate. Then he asked her to choose again between chocolate and chocolate. Of course she didn’t have a choice. This exercise told us that sometimes we don’t have a choice in life, and that sometimes we have to accept something rather than complaining (抱怨). Then he asked who would like to share his or her experience about no choice in life. A girl stood up and started talking about her mom who was a drug addict (吸毒者) and how much she hated her mother.
“I want a new mom.” she cried.
“Unluckily, you can’t have one.” the leader replied, “You have to accept the mother that you have.”

①Does every dinner with your parents seem to turn into an argument (争吵)? Have your once warm conversations become cold? You are not alone. Heated arguments and cold silences are common between teenagers and their parents.
②Teenagers’ physical (身体的) changes may cause such family problems. You may feel worried that you are developing at a different speed to your friends, shooting up in height or getting left far behind. You might worry about your changing voice and weight problems. When it all gets too much, your parents are often the first you want to get angry with.
③It can be a big headache to balance your developing mental (精神的) needs too. You enter a strange middle ground— no longer a small child but not quite an adult. You hate to depend on your parents but have a continued need for their love and support. You feel ready to make decisions on your own. Unluckily, your parents do not always agree and that makes you feel unhappy. On the other hand, when you are trying to control your feelings, you wish they could be more caring and patient— sometimes they forget that growing up is a hard time. It can be difficult when your parents treat you like a child but expect you to act like an adult. All of this can cause a breakdown in your relationship.
④______ The key to keeping the peace is regular (有规律的) and honest communication. When you disagree with your parents, take a minute to calm down and try to understand the situation from their point of view. Perhaps they have experienced something similar and do not want you to go through the same pain. Explain your actions and feelings calmly, listen carefully, and make them free from worries. Through this kind of healthy discussion, you will learn when to back down and when to ask your parents to relax their control.
⑤Just remember that it is common to fight with the stress and that you and your parents can work together to improve your relationship. The good news is that this stormy time will not last. Everything will turn out all right in the end, and the changes and challenges of your teenage years will prepare you for your future.
