The First Period

1. Teaching Objectives:
By the end of the lesson,students will be able to:
(1) Have a basic understanding of the two texts by fast reading;
(2) Master the reading skills of skimming & scanning by fast reading and careful reading;
(3) Develop the awareness of developing a healthy lifestyle.
2. Teaching Importance &Difficulty:
(1) Enable students to gain the reading abilities of skimming and scanning;
(2) Enable students to know the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
3. Teaching Methods:
(1) Inquiry teaching method;
(2) Questions&Answers teaching method;
(3) Audio-visual teaching method.
4. Teaching Procedures:
Step 1. Warm-up & Pre-reading
(1) Show students a short video about my daily life and ask them a question:
Q1:“What kind of lifestyle do you think I have?”——A:I have a fulfilling and busy life.
Q2:“So what kind of activities do you enjoy doing in your spare time?”——A:read some books;do some voluntary work;surf the Internet...
(2) Show students the self introductions of Joe and Li Ying, then help students to have a basic prediction of their lifestyles.
Step 2 While-reading
(1) Fast reading
Ask students to read the article as fast as they can and do the match below to gain the general idea of each paragraph.

2 General and brief introduction.
3 The things that Joe does online.
5 The reasons why she chose to be a journalist

(2) Careful reading:
①Ask students to read the article carefully again and underline their activities.
