I have a very special relationship with books. Growing up, we didn’t have a TV, so the whole family would get together in my brother’s room every night. While my mom knitted (编织), my father, the biggest reader I know, would read aloud to us for hours. We loved J. K. Rowlin’s Harry Potter and stories set in J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth. Before I entered the first grade, we had already finished The Lord of the Rings.
Although I loved the stories in the books, learning how to read them was a very big challenge—I had dyslexia (阅读障碍). This meant my brain had trouble putting the letters in the correct order, making reading and writing very difficult. I finally learned to read at the start of fourth grade with the help of a tutor (家庭教师).
Instead of making me run away from books, my dyslexia made me want to read even more. My parents often took me to a bookstore near our home. I bought a book about Helen Keller there and read it many times. Helen Keller’s story of dealing with blindness and deafness taught me to keep trying when facing difficulties. Peggy Parish’s Amelia Bedelia books, with their interesting stories, made me realize that making mistakes is part of learning. These books helped me build confidence and a lasting love for reading.
Reading became a beautiful part of my life. For my parents, reading was like breathing. Our home was filled with books, and my mom and dad always discussed what they were reading. Being able to join these conversations made me feel like I was truly a part of the family.
36. Who read to the author before the first grade?
A. Her brother. B. Her mother. C. Her father. D. Her teacher.
37. What does the underlined word “This” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Loving stories. B. Having dyslexia. C. Reading books. D. Knowing letters.
38. How would the author describe her reading experience according to paragraph 3?
A. Disappointing. B. Boring. C. Encouraging. D. Relaxing.
39. What can we learn about the author’s family from the last paragraph?
A. They live in a beautiful house. B. They are supporting each other.
C. They enjoy telling funny jokes. D. They are connected by books.
40. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. The Challenge in Reading B. My Journey with Books
C. The Tradition of My Family D. My Love for My Parents
B
Life is competitive—some kids can do something faster or better than other kids. All people are different and how well you can do something is different to others. This means there are “winners” and “losers”, and lots of people are neither winners nor losers but in-between. You can choose to be a good winner or an even better loser whether you are competing against others or yourself.
Being a “good” winner
No one likes a “show off”.
No one likes someone who takes all the praise for the efforts of a team.
No one likes people who put others down to make themselves look good.
To be a good winner you need to:
◆Be modest (谦虚的).
◆Thank those who helped you for their efforts.
◆Keep trying to improve your skills.
◆Aim for the next step up in whatever you are doing well.
Being an even better loser
It’s disappointing to lose, especially if you are close to winning. Behaving badly or angrily, name-calling and going on about things being “unfair” won’t change the final result and will only make you look like a bad sport. And no one likes bad sports either.
To be an even better loser you need to:
◆Behave politely nicely and kindly.
◆Congratulate the other team.
◆Keep any negative (消极的) thoughts to yourself—at least until you are away from the game. It’s OK to let out your negative thoughts to your best friend or parents later. And if you don’t do very well in a game, try harder to learn for the next one. Improving yourself makes you a winner too.
41. What can we learn from the first paragraph?
A. We are either losers or winners.
B. We should face winning and losing properly.
C. We can do nothing about winning and losing.
D. We are always competing with others not ourselves.
42. What should a better loser do when losing?
A. Let out his anger to his parents at once.
B. Express his negative feelings in the game.
C. Try harder to improve himself in the next game.
D. Behave badly to his team members or competitors.
43. Which one is NOT proper if we succeed?
A. Going on improving our skills.
B. Telling our team members to aim higher.
C. Thanking our team members for their efforts.
D. Putting down others to make ourselves look good.
44. Who is probably a bad sport?
A. Tom keeps saying the game is unfair when he loses.
B. Jim encourages his teammates after their team loses.
C. Anna thanks her coach for what he has done though she fails.
D. Cindy shows her congratulations to other competitors even if she fails.
45. Whạt is the passage written for?
A. Telling us what we can learn from losing.
B. Offering advice on what we can do to win.
C. Encouraging us to become a winner instead of a loser.
D. Giving advice on how to deal with winning and losing.

A
I have a very special relationship with books.

◆Behave politely, nicely and kindly.
【答案】41. B 42. C 43. D 44. A 45. D

The growth of Baldu’s robotaxi business raises questions about safety, its impact (影响) on the taxi and ride-hailing (叫车) industry, and implications (可能的影响) for urban transportation.
Baidu’s sixth-generation autonomous (自动的) driving vehicles have been deployed in Wuhan since May 2024. These vehicles, equipped with Baidu’s Autonomous Driving Foundation Model solution (百度自动驾驶大模型), claim to reach Level 4 autonomous driving.

As of April, Baidu’s autonomous driving program has driven 100 million kilometers without a major casualty (伤亡) incident, but a minor accident happened in Hanyang District on July 7.
In fact, the service has been introduced to numerous cities in China. As of now, Baidu has opened manned test operation services in 11 cities and is conducting (实施) fully driverless autonomous driving service tests in Beijing, Wuhan, Chongqing, Shenzhen and Shanghai.
The rising demand for lower-price robotaxi worries taxi drivers. While new job opportunities are emerging (涌现) in this field. China’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (中国人力资源和社会保障部) plans to add new professions (专业) related to this sector (行业).
