Before the discovery of DNA information in the 1980s, fingerprint (指纹) science was the easiest way to solve serious crimes. It’s believed that each one of us has our own fingerprints. But did you know that our fingerprints could show a lot about us?
According to the expert, fingerprints can show lifestyle and environment, eating habits, possible medical problems and even the job of a person.
So how can we work all this out from just a simple fingerprint? Well, a fingerprint is formed when a finger touches a surface. Most fingerprints can’t be seen to the eye and require a chemical development process in order to make them shown.
Besides, its use could be much wider. For example, it may be helpful in the future to doctors treating their patients. A fingerprint exam may also tell a doctor whether a patient is properly taking medicine. In the treatment of some serious illnesses, talking proper medicine is important.
In the future, fingerprint science can be used by the police and help doctors keep us in the best possible health.

When it comes to clothes, especially for children, why do we buy new ones? Alison Howes, an Australian mom, recently asked herself this question. She realized that there was a need for pre-owned clothes and then started a community clothes exchange. “The cost of living is getting high and we need choices like this,” she said.
Howes’ clothes exchange works on a very simple basis. People receive credit (信用) for bringing clothes they no longer use and the credit can be used to buy other clothes.
Although clothes exchanges aren’t new, there is increasing popularity because of social media. “I like the fact that you can come in and exchange small baby sizes for larger sizes when your kids grow,” said Cassandra, a mother of two children.
Besides, clothes exchanges are also good for the environment. The coming of fast fashion (时尚) means that people can buy more clothes that don’t last as long as they used to. Over 15 tons of unwanted clothes and textiles (纺织品) end up in landfills (垃圾填埋场) in Australia every year. Only 7% of them get recycled, so reusing clothes can cut down on the waste.
Giving pre-worn clothes a second chance will make the life of the textiles last longer and that is what clothes exchanges are all about. Perhaps it will become a start as more and more things will appear on the exchange list and become part of our lives.
71.Why did Howes start the community clothes exchange?
A.Because many people didn’t like new clothes.
B.Because she had lots of pre-owned clothes.
C.Because she wanted to help people save money.
72.Jenny wants to get some pre-owned clothes from Howes. What should she do?
A.Bring her old clothes.
B.Use her credit card.
C.Share Howes’ project online.
73.Why does the writer talk about the numbers in Paragraph 4?
A.To tell us why fast fashion is popular.
B.To encourage us to buy more clothes.
C.To show us the huge waste of used clothes.
74.What can we infer from the passage?
A.Clothes exchanges will change the ways of making clothes.
B.Clothes exchanges will set an example to other exchanges.
C.Clothes exchanges will influence people’s emotions.
75.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.Don’t Follow Fast Fashion Blindly
B.Clothes Exchanges Are Becoming More Popular
C.Exchanging Things Helps Protect the Environment

While for some people, telling left from right is as easy as telling up from down, around one in six people are the exception.
“ 101 ” says expert Van Ham. “But telling left from right is different. It’s because of the symmetry (对称性), and because when you turn around, it’s just the other way around.”
102 “First of all, you have to tell right from left in yourself,” Van Ham says. 103 “Then, after deciding which side is someone else’s left or right, the next step is mentally rotating (旋转) yourself so you’re facing in the same direction as the other person.” 104
Research published by Van Ham found that around 15% of people regard themselves as not good enough when it comes to telling left from right. 105 Some research suggests that the more asymmetrical (不对称) someone’s body is, the easier they find it to tell left and right apart. What about you? Is it easy for you to tell them apart?

GPS has been in the lead for quite a long time in the field of positioning and navigation. So, when you open a map on your phone, you might suppose it’s guided by the Global Positioning System (GPS) without giving it a second thought. But actually, nowadays, most of such services in China are using the Beidou Navigation Satellite System (BDS).
China started building up BDS 30 years ago. Back in 1978, America already started providing navigation services with its GPS. However, depending on a navigation system developed by another country isn’t safe. Some important secret information about our country may face the risk of being shown.
In 1994, China started the journey to its own navigation system, Beidou. Named after the Big Dipper constellation (北斗七星), which has guided people in the dark for centuries, BDS was to make sure China could navigate the future on its own.
In 2020, Beidou finally completed its global network. BDS became another global navigation system in the world after the GPS of America, Galileo of the European Union and GLONASS of Russia.
BDS is the first navigation system to provide a global short message communication service. It means you can text others in places where neither the phone signal (信号) nor the Internet is available. For example, in February 2023, a hiker got lost in heavy snow in Inner Mongolia. He sent a text message using the BDS service on his phone and was saved in time.
Moreover, Beidou plays an important role in disaster (灾害) prevention. Rescuers (救援者) can communicate through BDS quickly and clearly even in terrible situations. It’s also helpful in farming, letting farmers plant crops (庄稼) better.
Wherever you’ re in the world, BDS can help guide your way. By 2023, it had provided service for over 120 countries and regions around the world. “By 2035, China will build a positioning, navigation and timing system with BDS to provide more smart services,” director general of the China Satellite Navigation Office once said.
Present situation: It has nearly 106 GPS in China.
Development:
*Purpose:
to make sure of our country’s 107
*Name:
carrying China’s wish to become 108 in positioning and navigation
*Time line:
•starting in 1994
•being completed in 2020 and becoming one of the four global navigation systems in the world
Advantages:

•helps with disaster prevention
•improves farming
110 :
To build a positioning, navigation and timing system to provide more smart services by 2035
Achievement: It had served over 120 countries and regions by 2023.

【原文】The English tradition of taking afternoon tea was started by Ann, the 7th Duchess of Bedford in the 1840s. In the nineteenth century, people in the UK did not sit down to have dinner until 8 or 9 o’clock in the evening, and the duchess often became hungry around 4:00 p.m. So she decided to start having a little food at that time to stop her feeling of hunger. Soon many of her friends began to join her, and the habit of taking afternoon tea in the UK began. Many rich women would meet each day in the late afternoon and sit down to enjoy small cakes and sandwiches with tea. Today, afternoon tea is still popular with many tourists visiting hotels in the UK.
