Why can people remember the past? People can clearly recall(回想起) a small thing that happened at their young age, even though many years have passed. Why is this?
Studies have found that one of the impor tant functions(功能) of the brain is storing memory(储存记忆), so we can remember many things. As the simplest example, without memory, we will never go back home at night.
So, where is the brain's memory stored?Studies have found that the brain's memory is stored in nerve cells(神经细胞). Long- termmemory is a constant(恒定的)“ memory”, resulting in a memory point that is difficult to for- get. However, the human brain doesn't store all the memories forever. In fact, the human brain chooses the most important content (内容) as long- term memory, and many long- term memories will also slowly be covered by new long- term memories with time.
That's why we can still remember the important events that happened long ago. I can still recall my young age, or some things at school. That's because these are stored in my long- termmemory as important point.
