Each will take half of it home. The award recognizes the best novel of the year written in English and published in Britain and Ireland. Margaret Atwood won the prize in 2000 for her book The Blind Assassin. The Testaments was published just one month before the award. It is the second book to the 79-year-old Canadian’s best-selling 1985 novel, The Handmaid’s Tale. Evaristo is the first black woman to win the prize. Her book Girl, Woman, Other tells the stories of 12 people living in Britain. They are mainly female and black. While the Booker Prize has been jointly awarded to two writers two times before, the rules changed in 1993 limiting the award to one person. The judges broke those rules, saying they could not agree on a winner between the two books. The judges chose from a list of six novels. A Risks at Your Table Some of the “everyday foods” we eat hide some unhealthy features, which most people ignore. We take a look at some of the health risks being served to you! Energy Drinks You’re tired and you still have to face a physical or mental stress, so what a better friend than an energy drink to overcome the effort? However, most energy drinks contain chemicals that are harmful if taken in quantities, with effects that are similar to the ones from several other illegal drugs, smoking and alcohol consumption. White Bread White bread is poorer in fiber and protein than other bread alternatives. Fiber helps our body to understand when it has eaten enough. The sense of fullness is important if we don’t want an extra-consumption of calories. Breakfast Cereals Breakfast cereals(麦片) fill out lots of shelves in every supermarket you get inside. They’re one of the favorite foods for our first meal of the day, because they’re simply delicious. What many people are not aware of is that these products are loaded with GM(转基因) organisms which affect our immune system. If you really can’t separate yourselves from breakfast cereals, maybe you could start considering some organic breakfast cereal alternatives. Fat-Free Foods Fat-free foods may look like the gold mine for a perfectly balanced and satisfying diet, but the reality is widely different. Fats are essential for many body functions and for its healthy development. A fat-cut is not advisable, especially when your workouts are regular. Plus, fat-free foods are usually high in processed sugar. 21. Which is particularly improper for a man going to the gym regularly? A. Energy drinks. B. White bread. C. Breakfast cereals. D. Fat-free foods. 22. What do the four foods have in common? A. They are delicious and healthy. B. They contain harmful chemicals. C. They hide some harmful features. D. They lack some essential nutrients. 23. In which section of a website can you probably find this passage? A. Health. B. Education. C. Economy. D. Science. D 22. C 23. 根据Fat-Free Foods部分中的“A fat-cut is not advisable, especially when your workouts are regular. Plus, fat-free foods are usually high in processed sugar.(减少脂肪是不可取的,尤其是当你经常锻炼的时候。另外,无脂食品通常含有大量的加工糖。)”可知,经常锻炼的人使用脱脂的食物是不可取的,所以经常去健身的人脱脂的食物是特别不恰当的。故选D项。 【22题详解】 细节理解题。根据首段中的“Some of the “everyday foods” we eat hide some unhealthy features, which most people ignore. We take a look at some of the health risks being served to you!(我们吃的一些“日常食物”隐藏着一些不健康的特征,这是大多数人所忽视的。让我们来看看这些给你带来的健康风险吧!)”可知,本文主要介绍的是我们使用的一些隐藏着不健康特征的日常食物,所以这四种食物的共同点是拥有想一些有害的特征。故选C项。 【23题详解】 推理判断题。根据首段中的“We take a look at some of the health risks being served to you!(让我们来看看这些给你带来的健康风险吧!)” 故选A项。 B Do you know what you’d like to be when you grow up? It takes most people many years to find out. For the young artist Alexandra Nechita, it never really seemed to be a question. From the day she began drawing at the age of two, she was an artist. Alexandra Nechita was born in Romania in 1985 and moved to California when she was still a baby. As a little child, she loved colouring in her colouring books. Her parents hoped she could spend more time playing with other children, so they took away her colouring books. Alexandra began drawing her own pictures and colouring them in. By the time Alexandra was seven years old, she had begun painting with oil paints. When Alexandra took a local art class, her teacher was amazed at the young artist’s unusual style of painting. Alexandra’s work was similar in some ways to the paintings by famous artists like Picasso. These artists did not use a realistic style of painting. They allowed their imaginations to play an important part in their work. The interesting thing was that little Alexandra had never seen the work of these artists. People called her “Little Picasso”. This was a great honour, but Alexandra’s style of painting was all her own. Alexandra’s first public show was held at a Los Angeles public library when she was only eight years old. People were amazed at how young Alexandra was, but mostly they loved her imaginative artwork. It did not take long for Alexandra and her work to become famous. She appeared on television programmes and in newspapers and magazines all over the world. The sale of a single piece can earn the young artist thousands of dollars. But that is not why Alexandra creates artwork. She just cannot imagine doing anything else that would bring her such joy and satisfaction. Today, Alexandra is a full-time artist. She also works to help support the arts in schools. Alexandra is a strong believer in the power of art as a tool of communication and a bridge to building peace throughout the world. 24. When did Alexandra begin drawing pictures? A. At the age of eight. B. At the age of seven. C. At the age of two. D. In the year of 1985. 25. Alexandra was called “Little Picasso” because . A. she learned to paint from Picasso B. her style of painting was like Picasso’s C. she was one of Picasso’s big fans D. her style of painting was unusual 26. What can we learn from the underlined sentence in Paragraph 4? A. Only painting can make her so happy and satisfied. B. Only money can make her so happy and satisfied. C. Anything can make her feel happy and satisfied. D. Nothing can make her feel happy and satisfied. 27. According to the passage, which word can best describe Alexandra? A. Polite. B. Generous. C. Patient. D. Creative. C 25. B 26. A 27. 根据第一段中“From the day she began drawing at the age of two, she was an artist.(从她两岁开始画画的那一天起,她就是一名艺术家。)” 根据第二段中“Alexandra’s work was similar in some ways to the paintings by famous artists like Picasso.(亚历山德拉的作品在某些方面与毕加索等著名艺术家的画作相似。)” 结合划线句“She just cannot imagine doing anything else that would bring her such joy and satisfaction.(她无法想象还有什么能给她带来这样的快乐和满足。)” 故选A项。 根据第二段中“When Alexandra took a local art class, her teacher was amazed at the young artist’s unusual style of painting.(当亚历山德拉参加当地的美术课时,她的老师对这位年轻艺术家不同寻常的绘画风格感到惊讶。)”、“People called her “Little Picasso”. According to a vote by the BestColleges website, six in ten US college students worry that the use of AI in their studies is lowering the value of earning a degree. Even worse, more than half expect that increasing use of AI in the workplace will further devalue the worth of their studies to potential employers. Fears are very common that women, who are not enough in computing and science degrees, will be kept out of the job market. Right now, company technology departments are mostly male. But the impact of AI on employability may be quite different outside of computer programming, some employers say. The rise of AI is already creating new opportunities for students who have studied liberal subjects (文科). This is particularly true for writing-intensive subjects, such as English and history, that draw more female students than technology and require students to pull together diverse sources of information. That is because the companies that are starting to use AI to deal with customers are hiring writers to produce scripts for chatbots to use. Once graduated, both genders also worry that AI could reshape the job market for entry level work. Early experiments in the economic and professional services industries do suggest that AI tools will change the way marketing, investment banking and legal documents are created. Those changes could free junior employees from boring work. But the more work that is turned over to AI, the fewer jobs will be needed. And most of these jobs now use an apprenticeship (学徒) way, where doing the simple work gives young employees a good place for more important work. Some also worry that the focus on tech will hit workplace diversity efforts. “It is automation at a completely different level, which is why I’m concerned about women. My biggest fear is that women will fall behind again,” says Roya Rahmani, chair of Delphos International, which provides investment markets advisory services. 28. What can we know from the first three paragraphs? A. It may be harder for graduates to find a job. B. It is certain that more women will lose jobs. C. The use of AI makes a degree more valuable. D. The impact of AI gives the graduates more hope. 29. Why do liberal arts students have new opportunities? A. The companies need to deal with customers. B. They are good at gathering diverse information. C. They may have an advantage of writing scripts. D. The subjects they learn are all writing-intensive. 30. What is the concern about the job market for entry level work? A. AI will make the job market more diverse. B. AI will transform the way some work is done. C. AI will make the boring work more interesting. D. AI will give more opportunities to junior employees. 31. What does Roya Rahmani worry about? A. The decrease of workplace diversity. B. The influence of AI on women’s careers. C. The lack of apprenticeship chances for women. D. The application of AI in the investment markets. 【答案】28. A 29. C 30. B 31. B 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了人工智能可能导致毕业生找工作更加困难的问题。 【28题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“According to a vote by the BestColleges website, six in ten US college students worry that the use of AI in their studies is lowering the value of earning a degree. Even worse, more than half expect that increasing use of AI in the workplace will further devalue the worth of their studies to potential employers.(根据BestColleges网站的一项投票,60%的美国大学生担心,在学习中使用人工智能会降低获得学位的价值。更糟糕的是,超过一半的人预计,在工作场所越来越多地使用人工智能,将进一步降低他们的学习对潜在雇主的价值)”可知,毕业生找工作可能会更难。故选A。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“The rise of AI is already creating new opportunities for students who have studied liberal subjects (文科). This is particularly true for writing-intensive subjects, such as English and history, that draw more female students than technology and require students to pull together diverse sources of information. That is because the companies that are starting to use AI to deal with customers are hiring writers to produce scripts for chatbots to use.(人工智能的兴起已经为学习人文学科的学生创造了新的机会。对于英语和历史等需要大量写作的学科来说尤其如此,这些学科吸引的女学生多于科技,而且要求学生将各种信息来源整合在一起。这是因为那些开始使用人工智能与客户打交道的公司正在雇佣作家来编写脚本,供聊天机器人使用)”可知,文科生有新的机会是因为他们可能有写剧本的优势。故选C。 【30题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段“Once graduated, both genders also worry that AI could reshape the job market for entry level work. Early experiments in the economic and professional services industries do suggest that AI tools will change the way marketing, investment banking and legal documents are created.(毕业后,男女都担心人工智能可能会重塑入门级工作的就业市场。经济和专业服务行业的早期实验确实表明,人工智能工具将改变营销、投资银行和法律文件的创建方式)”可知,入门级工作的就业市场担忧在于,人工智能将改变一些工作的完成方式。故选B。 【31题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段““It is automation at a completely different level, which is why I’m concerned about women. My biggest fear is that women will fall behind again,” says Roya Rahmani, chair of Delphos International, which provides investment markets advisory services.(“这是一种完全不同程度的自动化,这就是我担心女性的原因。我最担心的是,女性将再次落后,”提供投资市场咨询服务的德尔福国际董事长罗亚•拉赫马尼表示)”可知,罗亚·拉赫马尼担心人工智能对女性职业的影响。故选B。 D When we look at a lovely baby, a puppy or a really cute kitten many of us want to squeeze it. Why is that? According to a study published in the journal Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, it’s a typical experience of “cute aggression”. The experience results from the fight between the brain’s “emotion system”, which impels (驱使) people to squeeze cute things, and its “reward system” which deals with feelings of “wanting”. In the study, 54 participants between the ages of 18 and 40 were presented with four groups of photos. Two of the groups of photos were of cute human babies and animals and the other two were of less adorable adult humans and animals. As the participants looked at the photos, there searchers watched their brain activities. According to the researchers, the participants reward systems were found to be active as they looked at the cute babies, and they seemed to be overwhelmed(征服的). By contrast, the reward systems of the people looking at the less cute adults were found to be inactive, and they seemed to be less impelled by their reward systems. This suggests that cute things activate their emotion systems in such a way that people are overwhelmed by the experience of cuteness. But reward systems work against these emotions by creating the desire to protect cute things. As Katherine Stavropoulos, the lead researcher of this study at the University of California in the US told Science Alert, “The cute aggression is the brain’s way of ‘bringing us back down’ by balancing our feelings of being overwhelmed.” Stavropoulos compared this process of balancing to an evolutionary adaptation. Such an adaptation may have taken place to ensure that people are able to continue taking care of creatures they consider particularly cute. So, although cute babies and adorable animals may look completely helpless, their vulnerable( 易受伤害的) appearance may in fact help them to survive. 32. According to the text, “cute aggression” refers to . A the emotion of wanting to protect cute things B. the task of emotion system and reward system C. the adaptation of consistently taking care of cute creatures D. the behavior of squeezing a cute baby or animal when seeing it 33. In nature, “cute aggression” is caused by . A. the need of the brain to balance all feelings B. the photos of cute human babies and animals C. the vulnerable appearance of babies or animals D. the conflict between emotion system and reward system 34. Which of the following statements about the study is TRUE? A. Facial expressions of the participants were observed. B. Katherine Stavropoulos conducted this study on her own. C. Cute babies and animals affected brain activities of all the participants. D. The participants were divided into two groups in order to make comparison. 35. What is the author's purpose in writing this text? A. To persuade readers to protect cute animals. B. To stress the significance of cute aggression. C. To present research findings on cute aggression. D. To share an interesting phenomenon with readers 【答案】32. D 33. D 34. C 35. C 【解析】 【分析】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了关于“cute aggression”的研究成果。 【32题详解】 词义猜测题。根据第一段第一句When we look at a lovely baby, a puppy or a rally cute kitten many of us want to squeeze it.“当我们看到可爱婴儿、小狗或拉力赛可爱的小猫时,我们很多人都想捏它。”由此可知“cute aggression”指的是看到可爱的婴儿或动物时捏它的行为。故选D。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中The experience results from the fight between the brain’s “emotion system”, which impels (驱使) people to squeeze cute things, and its “reward system” which deals with feelings of “wanting”.“这种体验来自于大脑的“情感系统”和“奖励系统”之间的斗争,前者促使人们挤压可爱的东西,后者处理“想要”的感觉。”可知,在自然界中,“cute aggression”是由情感系统与奖励系统的冲突引起的。故选D。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中According to the researchers, the participants reward systems were found to be active as they looked at the cute babies, and they seemed to be overwhelmed(征服的).“研究人员称,当参与者看着可爱的婴儿时,他们的奖励系统被发现是活跃的,而且他们似乎不知所措。”可知,可爱的婴儿和动物影响所有参与者的大脑活动。故选C。 【35题详解】 目的意图题。根据第六段As Katherine Stavropoulos, the lead researcher of this study at the University of California in the US told Science Alert, “The cute aggression is the brain’s way of ‘bringing us back down’ by balancing our feelings of being overwhelmed.” 美国加州大学这项研究的首席研究员凯瑟琳·斯塔夫罗普洛斯告诉《科学警报》杂志,“可爱的攻击性是大脑通过平衡我们被压垮的感觉来‘把我们拉回来’的方式。”可知,本文的写作目的是展示关于cute aggression的研究结果。故选C。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Have you ever gone to a museum or a show and been completely blown away by a piece? If you haven’t, go out and get cultured. I’m a student at the College of Visual and Performing Arts where we create all kinds of art every day. ____36____ But I don’t think those people truly know the difficulties and struggles in the process of making art. First of all, we need to be inspired. You may think that’s easy. In fact, anything can serve as a concept of a work of art. ____37____ Sometimes we will need people, volunteers, bodies to do so and finding willing people to work is hard. Other times we have a clear idea of what we want but we don’t know how to make other people fully understand what we’re trying to get at. ____38____ We need a space to be able to be creative and that can be tricky to acquire. Sometimes we need art supplies or certain equipment and costumes and that can cost money. Even if we do acquire what we need, visions change and mistakes happen so we might not end up using the resources. The process can take weeks, months, and even years to be fully realized. Once completed, we need to share it and find an audience and provide an environment to display our work. ____39____ What if nobody likes what we created? What if our vision isn’t what we thought though completed? Creating art is an art in itself. It is really not as easy as many people think. ____40____ It’s how we express ourselves and how we communicate with the rest of the world. A. Outsiders think our jobs easy. B. We should be quiet and creative. C. We might choose other fields as well. D Resources are also a huge factor in making art. E. The hard part comes when we put our ideas into reality. F. And the negative thoughts love to overpower our minds. G. It takes time, patience and space when things don’t go as expected. 【答案】36. A 37. E 38. D 39. F 40. G 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇议论文。文章开篇提出很多人认为艺术创作的工作很简单,但作者认为这些外行人士不懂艺术创作的艰难之处,并从艺术创作的灵感、资源、时间等方面论述艺术创作工作的不易,最后总结出艺术创作本身就是一件艺术,需要耐心、时间、空间。 【36题详解】 上文“I’m a student at the College of Visual and Performing Arts where we create all kinds of art every day.(我是一名视觉与表演艺术学院的学生,每天都在创作各种各样的艺术作品)”,下文“But I don’t think those people truly know the difficulties and struggles in the process of making art.(但是我认为那些人并不是真正了解艺术创作过程中的艰辛。)”,说明中间设空处需要填一个意思与其相反相对的表达。A项“Outsiders think our jobs easy.(外人认为我们的工作很容易。)”恰好与之对应,下文的those people指代A项中的Outsiders, 下文的difficult也与A项中的easy对应。故选A项。 【37题详解】 上文“First of all, we need to be inspired. You may think that’s easy. In fact, anything can serve as a concept of a work of art.(首先,我们需要灵感。你可能认为这很容易。事实上,任何东西都可以作为艺术作品的概念。)”提到了艺术创作需要灵感,而任何东西都可以作为艺术作品的概念,这是容易的部分。而下文“Sometimes we will need people, volunteers, bodies to do so and finding willing people to work is hard.(有时我们需要人、志愿者、人模来做这些,而找到愿意做这些工作的人很难。)”提到很难找到愿意做这些工作的人,属于艺术创作工作中难的部分。因此中间需要有过度,E项“The hard part comes when we put our ideas into reality.(我们要把想法变为实际时,困难就来了。)”恰好能把上下文衔接起来。故选E项。 【38题详解】 本题设空处位于段首,根据下文“We need a space to be able to be creative and that can be tricky to acquire. Sometimes we need art supplies or certain equipment and costumes and that can cost money. Even if we do acquire what we need, visions change and mistakes happen so we might not end up using the resources.(我们需要一个能够发挥创造力的空间,而这很难获得。有时我们需要一些艺术用品或某些设备和服装,这需要花钱。即使我们获得了我们需要的东西,我们的想法会发生变化,错误也会随之出现,所以我们可能最终不会使用这些资源。)”可知,整段内容都在讲艺术创作需要用到的资源,故段首句需要含括整段内容。结合选项可知,D项“Resources are also a huge factor in making art.(资源也是艺术创作的一个重要因素。)”一方面能概括整段内容,另一方面also与第二段的first of all对应。故选D项。 【39题详解】 上文“The process can take weeks, months, and even years to be fully realized. Once completed, we need to share it and find an audience and provide an environment to display our work.(这个过程可能需要几周、几个月、甚至几年的时间才能完全实现。一旦完成,我们需要分享它,找个观众,并提供一个环境来展示我们的作品。)”提到了作品完成后会做的事情;下文“What if nobody likes what we created? What if our vision isn’t what we thought though completed?(如果没有人喜欢我们创造的东西怎么办?如果我们的想法并不如我们所想的那样完成了呢?)”是对完成作品后可能出现问题的假设,且都是一些消极的想法,F项“And the negative thoughts love to overpower our minds.(我们的大脑里总是充斥着各种消极的想法。)”恰好与下文的消极设问对应。故选F项。 【40题详解】 上文“Creating art is an art in itself. It is really not as easy as many people think.(艺术创作本身就是一种艺术。这真的不像许多人想的那么容易。)”总结性地提到了艺术创作并不是那么容易的;下文“It’s how we express ourselves and how we communicate with the rest of the world.(它是我们表达自我的方式,也是我们与世界交流的方式。)”总结了艺术创作对从事艺术的人的意义,故中间同样需要一句总结性的话语,表明艺术创作的不易。G项“It takes time, patience and space when things don’t go as expected.(当事情不像预期那样发展时,需要时间、耐心和空间。)”恰好总结了前面几段的内容,符合文意。故选G项。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 I’ve always wanted to be a millionaire. One day, he gathered up all his strength and decided to attend a job interview for a position in a well-known company, whose recruitment (招聘) advertisement said it needed someone who was skilled, but more importantly, kind-hearted. His appointment was at 10 am and it was already 8:30. While waiting for a bus to the office where he was supposed to be interviewed, he saw an elderly man wildly kicking the tyre of his car, wearing a worried expression. Obviously there was something wrong with the car. Jimmy immediately went up to lend him a hand. To Jimmy, it was an easy job though it took some time. When Jimmy finished working on the car, the old man asked him how much he should pay for the service. Jimmy said there was no need to pay him; he just helped someone in need, and he had to rush for an interview. Then the old man said, “Well, I could take you to the office for your interview. It’s the least I could do. Please, I insist.” Jimmy agreed. When Jimmy told the old man where he would go, the old man showed a smile and said, “I know the company. By the way, young man, you can call me Anderson.” Upon arrival, Jimmy found a long line of applicants waiting to be interviewed. Jimmy still had some grease (机油) on him after the car repair, but he did not have much time to wash it off or have a change of shirt. With his heart pounding wildly, he entered the office. After giving a brief introduction, Jimmy waited for the interviewer to ask questions. But out of Jimmy’s expectations, the interviewer just stared at him, saying nothing. Jimmy felt the air frozen, not knowing what to do. After what seemed like a century, the interviewer opened his month, “You should wear a dirty shirt for the interview. It seems that you don’t take it seriously. ” Jimmy wanted to explain, but the interviewer just signed to him to leave. Disappointed, Jimmy left the office and unexpectedly met with Mr. Anderson. “Young man, you failed your interview because of your dirty shirt?” Mr. Anderson asked, with a smile on his face. When hearing the question, Jimmy nodded his head, feeling his face burning. “Do you regret helping me?” Mr. Anderson asked seriously. “No,” Jimmy answered firmly with a sincere expression and added he would come to others’ help as long as he was needed. Mr. Anderson nodded approvingly. “Congratulations, young man. You have passed the real interview.” It turned out the old man was the General Manager of the company. 词汇激活 行为类 ① 解释:explain/interpret ② 询问:ask/inquire ③ 帮助:come to one's help/assist 情绪类 ① 心脏狂跳:with his heart pounding wildly/with his heart beating quickly ② 坚定地:firmly/decidedly 【点睛】 [高分句型1]. 24. A. she learned to paint from Picasso B. her style of painting was like Picasso’s C. she was one of Picasso’s big fans D. her style of painting was unusual 26. A. Polite. B. Generous. C. C As this year’s graduates prepare to step into the workplace, many are either anxious or scared about the impact of artificial intelligence — particularly large language models such as ChatGPT — on their careers. D When we look at a lovely baby, a puppy or a really cute kitten many of us want to squeeze it. A. the emotion of wanting to protect cute things B. the task of emotion system and reward system C. the adaptation of consistently taking care of cute creatures D. the behavior of squeezing a cute baby or animal when seeing it 33. D. To share an interesting phenomenon with readers 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Have you ever gone to a museum or a show and been completely blown away by a piece? He was caught in a dilemma (困境), wanting to find a new job but fearing applying for a new job. One by one, the applicants left the interviewer’s office with disappointed look on their faces. “With the way I look now, how could I possibly pass this interview?” he thought to himself, feeling his heart sinking. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Finally his name was called. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Disappointed, Jimmy left the office and unexpectedly met with Mr. Anderson. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
