W: People in the United States honor their parents with two specific days: Mother’s Day, on the second Sunday in May; Father’s Day, on the third Sunday in June. During the days they show love and respect for their parents. The parents raise their children and educate them to be responsible citizens. They give love and care. These two days give a chance to think about the changing roles of mothers and fathers. More mothers now work outside the home. More fathers must help with childcare. These two special days are celebrated in many different ways. On Mother’s Day, people wear carnations. And families get together at home, as well as in restaurants. They often have outdoor picnics for Father’s Day. These are days of fun and good feelings and memories. Another tradition is to give cards and gifts. Children make them in school. Many people make cards for their own parents. These are valued more than the ones bought in stores. It is not the value of the gift that is important, but it is “the thought that counts”. A Welcome to Musée Rodin The Musée Rodin, a hidden jewel in Paris, is actually the former residence of famed 19th-century sculptor Auguste Rodin. It is one of the most highly valued prizes at more than $1.3 million. Past winners include Jane Goodall, Mother Teresa and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Wilczek told The Associated Press, “It’s a company I’m very glad to join in.” He added, “It’s encouragement in a direction that I’ve really only taken up in a big way quite recently… which is thinking about not just what the world is and how it came to be this way but what we should do about it.” Over a long career, Wilczek had many successes. He won the 2004 Nobel Prize along with David J. Gross, and H. David Politzer for their 1973 research explaining the unusual properties of the strong force. Wilczek is currently a physics professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Arizona State University and Stockholm University. He is also the founding director of Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s T. D. Lee Institute. He has also written several books that are informed by science but look into spiritual and philosophical questions. Heather Dill is the Templeton Foundation president. 根据第二段中“Wilczek is known for his research into the laws of nature.(威尔切克以对自然规律的研究而闻名。)” 根据第二段中“the great questions of meaning and purpose(关于意义和目的的大问题)”和“by generations of religious thinkers.(被一代又一代的宗教思想家。)” 根据第五段中“Over a long career, Wilczek had many successes.(在漫长的职业生涯中,威尔切克取得了许多成功。)” 根据第一段“Nobel Prize-winning theoretical physicist Frank Wilczek has been honored with this year’s Templeton Prize. The award recognizes individuals whose life’s work brings together science and spirituality.(诺贝尔奖得主、理论物理学家弗兰克·威尔切克荣获今年的邓普顿奖。该奖项旨在表彰那些毕生致力于将科学与灵性结合在一起的个人。)”可知,这篇文章是为了介绍一位伟大的科学家。故选B。 D For some people, nothing beats a long walk on a sandy beach. But there’s no denying that it’s not as easy or as fast to get around on the beach as it is on a road or a sidewalk. But why is it so hard to walk on sand? The problem with sand is that it’s soft; you “sink in” at each step. This forces you to use 2.1 to 2. 7 times more energy with every step you take. Another idea is that people walk more difficultly on soft than they do on hard surfaces, a study found. The researchers compared how people walked on foam (沫) and hard surfaces by analyzing the forces under their feet and how much oxygen each person consumed. They found that walking on soft surfaces, such as sand, mud and snow, caused people to take longer steps — actions that use more energy than walking on a hard surface. But as experienced beach walkers know, there’s a way to make it easier to walk on sand: Just add water, When sand is wet, it becomes more compact (紧密), and walking on it is more similar to walking on hard surface. In other words, it’s much easier to cross a beach by walking along the shoreline, where the waves roll in and out. This is a balance though; too much water could make the sand soft once again. If water isn’t an option, there is another way to make walking on sand easier — increasing your surface area. This could be accomplished by wearing shoes. Although it’s more difficult, there are some good reasons to exercise on sand. The impact forces are lower on sand than on hard surface. Research suggests that walking across sand is much easier on your joints (关节) and muscles, especially compared with an unforgiving surface such as concrete (混凝土). This means sand is a better surface for helping athletes recover more quickly from workouts. 32. Why is the question raised in the first paragraph? A. To show problems. B. To call up readers’ memories. C. To invite readers to answer it. D. To draw readers’ attention to the topic. 33. How can you walk on sand more easily? A. By putting on shoes. B. By taking longer steps. C. By walking in the water. D. By using special breath methods. 34. Which of the following surfaces is unsuitable for athletes’ training? A. Sand. B. Concrete. C. Foam. D. Snow. 35. What may be the best title for the text? A. Tips for Beach Vacation B. All Kinds of Sports on the Sand C. Why Is It So Hard to Walk on Sand? D. Where Are We With the Sand Research? D 33. A 34. B 35. 第一段中“But why is it so hard to walk on sand? (但为什么在沙滩上行走如此困难呢?)”提出问题,下文主要围绕此问题展开,解释了在沙滩上行走比较困难的原因,故第一段提出该问题是为了将读者的注意吸引到文章的主题上,故选D。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段最后两句“If water isn’t an option, there is another way to make walking on sand easier — increasing your surface area. This could be accomplished by wearing shoes. (如果不能用水,还有另一种方法可以使在沙滩上行走更容易——增加你的表面积。这可以通过穿鞋来实现)”可知,可以通过穿鞋子来使在沙滩行走更容易,故选A。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章最后两句“Research suggests that walking across sand is much easier on your joints (关节) and muscles, especially compared with an unforgiving surface such as concrete (混凝土). This means sand is a better surface for helping athletes recover more quickly from workouts. (研究表明,在沙子上行走对你的关节和肌肉来说要容易得多,尤其是与坚硬的混凝土表面相比。这意味着沙子是一个更好的表面,可以帮助运动员更快地从训练中恢复)”可知,混凝土不适合运动员的训练。故选B。 【35题详解】 主旨大意题。根据全文内容,结合第一段中“But why is it so hard to walk on sand? (但为什么在沙滩上行走如此困难呢?)”可知,文章主要解释了为什么在沙滩上行走比较艰难,并提出了解决的办法。C项“为什么在沙子上行走如此艰难?”为最佳标题。故选C。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Get Along With Friends Friendships can have a major impact on your health and happiness, but it’s not always easy to develop friendships. The following are some tips for you. Be positive ____36____. If you’re someone who likes to discuss hopeless-sounding situations, that’s OK, but remember to talk about more cheerful topics, too. Discussing books or sharing funny stories are better for your friendships. Of course, if something bad happens, it’s OK to ask your friends for support. You’re not expected to be positive all the time. ____37____ Listening helps you learn about your friends and support them when they need it. Give your friends your full attention, and make mental notes about the important things in their lives—like the names of their loved ones, things they like and major things that have happened or are happening in their lives. ____38____, don’t immediately share your experiences or advice. Instead, ask them, “How are you feeling about it?” or “What do you plan to do about that?” Make time for each other Spending time with your friends has a huge impact, whether it’s for a few minutes or for several hours. ____39____. If you can’t easily see your friends in person, try texting each other or having video calls. It certainly doesn’t replace an in-person hangout, but it’s a good way to keep in touch. Calmly discuss problems one-on-one If your friends are doing something that’s bothering you, it doesn’t help to give them the silent treatment or leave them out. Instead, talk to them one-on-one about what’s bothering you, and calmly share how you feel about it. For example, if your friends have given you an embarrassing (令人尴尬的) nickname, pull them aside and say, “I know you’re trying to be funny, but when you call me that, I get really embarrassed. ____40____.” A. Listen to them B. Please don’t call me that C. Focusing on the upside makes you a better friend D. If you answer telephone calls only during certain hours E. If your friend shares something that they’re struggling with F. Talking directly to your friend is the best way to solve an issue G. Schedule fun activities with your friends, or just find time to talk for a while 【答案】36. C 37. A 38. E 39. G 40. 【36题详解】 根据本段的小标题Be positive以及空后“If you’re someone who likes to discuss hopeless-sounding situations, that’s OK, but remember to talk about more cheerful topics, too.”(如果你是一个喜欢讨论绝望情势的人,没有问题,但是请记得也要谈论令人振奋的话题)”可知,本段讲述与朋友相处要积极乐观,因此推断C项“Focusing on the upside makes you a better friend”(关注积极的一面会让你成为一个更好的朋友)符合语境,引出下文的具体解释。 根据空后“Listening helps you learn about your friends and support them when they need it. 故选A项。 【38题详解】 根据空后“don’t immediately share your experiences or advice. Instead, ask them, 'How are you feeling about it?' or 'What do you plan to do about that?'”(不要立刻分享你的经验或者建议。 【39题详解】 根据空前“Spending time with your friends has a huge impact, whether it’s for a few minutes or for several hours.”(花时间和朋友在一起有很大的影响,无论是几分钟还是几个小时。)可知,此处指给予学生陪伴,G项“Schedule fun activities with your friends, or just find time to talk for a while”(和朋友一起安排有趣的活动,或者找时间聊聊天)刚好对应前面和朋友呆在一起。故选G项。 【40题详解】 根据空前“For example, if your friends have given you an embarrassing (令人尴尬的) nickname, pull them aside and say,I know you’re trying to be funny, but when you call me that, I get really embarrassed.”(例如,如果你的朋友给了你一个令人尴尬的昵称,那就把他们拉到一边,说,“我知道你在努力变得有趣,但是当你那样叫我的时候,我觉得很尴尬”)讲述朋友称呼你绰号让你尴尬,你可以告诉他你会尴尬,请他不要称呼,因此推断B项“Please don’t call me that”(请不要那样叫我)与前句之间存在因果关系,符合语义逻辑。 Tina Turner’s death reminded me of the day I first discovered her voice. I was on Thanksgiving break—bored—when I tried to look through my parents’ old records ____41____ entertainment. What I found was an album called “Private Dancer”. “Who was this woman?” I thought as the song I Might Have Been Queen ____42____. “What had she been through?” I quickly ____43____ an expert on the matter: my mom, who as a teenager in the 1960s, had been listening to Tina. Mom didn’t sugarcoat the superstar’s sad family life: Off-stage, her husband was ____44____ her. As usual, I started my day by sitting outside breathing the fresh air as I read my book and drank my coffee. Afterwards, there were two things I was determined to do. First, make sure my husband got our small Christmas trees down from the attic(阁楼) and, second, take several bags of clothes, blankets and comforters to the donation center. I had been faithful in doing that every year, but for whatever reason, I had delayed this year and the bags were now piling up and overflowing. After reading for a while, I went into the bedroom to ask my husband to bring the trees down. He was asleep so I figured I’d surprise him and get them down by myself. I went to the garage to access the attic storage and moved our tall metal ladder into place. I had to move the bags of clothing and blankets out of the way, determined once again to get those to the donation center. I climbed the ladder, and two steps from the top I was able to reach up and push open the attic door. Then, with my feet on the very last step and part of my upper body in the attic, I saw my trees. I awkwardly raised my leg to climb onto the attic floor. Looking down, and then looking up again, I decided that this was actually too much for me. I should wait for my husband to get them. As I stepped down, my foot missed the shaky ladder’s step. With one foot swinging and the other on the top step, I grabbed(抓住) the attic floorboard and called my husband. Unfortunately, he couldn’t hear me. As I went to take another step down, the ladder suddenly came out from under me, loudly crashing onto the concrete(混凝土的) garage floor, leaving me hanging from the attic with sweaty hands. In that second, which seemed like a century, I prayed and then called my husband. With my body swinging in midair and my hands slowly sliding closer to the edge, I fell. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Arriving at the emergency center, I anxiously waited to see the doctor. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: With my body swinging in midair and my hands slowly sliding closer to the edge, I fell. My entire body except my left foot landed on the bags of clothes and comforters that I had just moved! As my foot slammed into the concrete floor, I heard it crack as pain shot through my leg. Lying on the bags, I weakly yelled, “Help me!” My husband rushed in, picking me up and taking me to the hospital. As he drove, he said with tears in his eyes, “Thank God you fell on those bags. It’s a blessing that they were even out there!” Arriving at the emergency center, I anxiously waited to see the doctor. The doctor was surprised about what had happened to me and called me his miracle patient. Having carefully examined me, the doctor told me that I just broke my foot and it would take me several weeks to recover. He said it was lucky that I wasn’t injured more than I was. It was those bags that saved me from severe disaster or even death. Hearing the doctor’s words, my husband hugged me with gratitude. What a coincidence it was! 词汇激活 行为类 搬动:move/carry 检查:examine/ check 恢复:recover /get well 情绪类 感谢:gratitude /appreciation 不安地:anxiously / restlessly 【点睛】[高分句型1] As my foot slammed into the concrete floor, I heard it crack as pain shot through my leg.(运用了as引导时间状语从句) [高分句型2] Having carefully examined me, the doctor told me that I just broke my foot and it would take me several weeks to recover. C Nobel Prize-winning theoretical physicist Frank Wilczek has been honored with this year’s Templeton Prize. The award recognizes individuals whose life’s work brings together science and spirituality. Wilczek is known for his research into the laws of nature. In a statement, the John Templeton Foundation said his work changes “our understanding of the forces that govern our universe.” It said he used physics to address “the great questions of meaning and purpose pondered by generations of religious thinkers.” John Templeton created the prize in 1972. In a statement, she said, “Like Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein, he is a natural philosopher who unites a curiosity about the behavior of nature with a playful and profound philosophical mind.” 28. What is Frank Wilczek famous for? A His long-time efforts in philosophy. B. His study in natural science. C. His gains in the chemical awards. D. His contribution in the field of art. 29. What does the underlined word “pondered” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Governed strictly. B. Designed seriously. C. Considered carefully. D. Abandoned completely. 30. What does paragraph 5 focus on concerning Frank Wilezek? A. His hobbies. B. His advantages. C. His expectations. D. His achievements. 31. What’s the purpose of the text? A. To advertise a book. B To introduce a great scientist. C. To explain the difference of two prizes. D. To stress the importance of science and philosophy. D For some people, nothing beats a long walk on a sandy beach. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null
