When the pool where he worked as a lifeguard near Paris was closed, Guillaume Pop took jobs at various other pools that were virtually deserted to continue his previous career. At one pool there was a small waterslide, which gave the 22-year-old former competitive swimmer an idea: he would make a TikTok video in which he pretended to be a “professional waterslide tester”.
Shooting down a slide in hard hat and vest (马甲) or smiling broadly in cool shades Pop soon became a social-media sensation. He was hired to “test” slides and other facilities at water parks, swimming pools and campsites all over France. Today, he has more than half a million followers on TikTok and his own real-life waterslide-testing business. No longer working as a lifeguard, he travels the country checking the condition of waterslides, trying them out to determine how fun they are and creating amusing videos to attract customers.
“First of all, I check it without water, to make sure it's in an acceptable state,” explains Pop, who must keep up-to-date on water-park regulations. If he finds a waterslide needs work, which can hurt sliders, management will bring in a specialist repairer. “After that, I test it with water,” Pop says.
Then he moves on to the fun, promotional aspect. Sometimes he takes over a leisure park and invites social-media influencers to enjoy it too. In 2022, he took 25 influencers to O'Gliss Park, an enormous water park on the Atlantic coast.
Pop estimates he's tested around 700 French waterslides and is now eyeing water parks abroad, such as Switzerland, Portugal and Spain, where he has been testing slides during the winter. “It's the best job in the world,” declares Pop, whose videos have received 80 million views. I'm not behind a desk. “I’m active and outside in the sun. And I have a great popularity with customers. In fact, all the children tell me they want to be a waterslide tester!”
4. Why did Guillaume Pop take jobs at various pools after his workplace closed?
A. To become a TikTok blogger.
B. To continue his original work roles.
C. To maintain his skills as a competitive swimmer.
D. To enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of deserted pools.
5. How does Pop promote waterslides and water parks?
A. He creates safety guidelines for water parks.
B. He cooperates with social media influencers.
C. He writes reviews about the condition of waterslides.
D. He organizes competitions for the best waterslide testers.
6. How does Pop feel about his present job?
A. Satisfied. B. Challenged. C. Puzzled. D. Embarrassed.
7. What can we say about Pop’s experience?
A. Creativity meets opportunity in career success.
B. Social media is posing threat to professional growth.
C. Pop's success was purely accidental with no planning.
D. Career success is unattainable without a traditional job.
B 5. B 6. A 7. A

根据第四段“Sometimes he takes over a leisure park and invites social-media influencers to enjoy it too.”(有时,他会接管一个休闲公园,并邀请社交媒体上有影响力的人也来玩。)

And I have a great popularity with customers. In fact, all the children tell me they want to be a waterslide tester!”(“这是世界上最棒的工作了。”

What constitutes a quality education? Today, quality is most often measured through the PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) standardized tests — and countries are ranked accordingly. The higher on that list, the better your education would be. But do these results and rankings still relate to what really matters today — and tomorrow?
At first glance, the relationship between PISA and economic performance doesn’t seem too hard to pinpoint. Connections between high PISA rankings and “hard” variables such as GDP, performance, productivity — these are easy enough to draw up. But if we agree that the success of modern-day economies is based on more than children’s ability to read, write and do maths, what other variables might we draw up and how might we assess their presence?
The rapid changes we’re experiencing in our societies are having a substantial impact on the likelihood that our children will find a satisfying path when they are older. Our society is changing dramatically. Rather than pinpointing the single role they’ll play, children may have to prepare for a series of roles, more so than we have been used to.
Each developing child passes through our school system to reach their full potential as an adult in society. The current version of our education system requires each child to be measured against the same standards. We must all fit these particular norms, working towards meeting those specific criteria (标准) . Are we not wasting an awful amount of potential and harming both ourselves and society?
We are entering an age when computers, robots and artificial intelligence will start to outperform humans in skills we score children against today: computation, applied writing, organization, decision tree-based problem solving. Replacing humans in such jobs makes as much economic sense as the replacement of horses by cars once did. In healthcare, in the service industry, this is already happening and there is every reason to believe it will continue.
Roles likely to avoid such robotization for some time yet are those that centre around those precise qualities that make us unmistakably human: inventiveness, creativity, sympathy, entrepreneurialism, lateral thinking, cultural sensitivity, to name a few. What if we gave these more emphasis in schools?
8. What is the main purpose of PISA tests?
A. To predict future job market trends. B. To evaluate the creativity of students.
C. To measure a country’s economic levels. D. To assess students’ academic performance.
9. The author implies that the current education system may be failing to _______.
A. prepare students for standardized tests B. ensure all students meet the same criteria
C. compare different countries’ economic bases D. adapt students to society’s complexity and diversity
10. What’s the author’s attitude towards the development of AI in various industries?
A. Unclear. B. Favorable. C. Doubtful. D. Dismissive.
11. What does the author mainly intend to convey through the text?
A. Education should facilitate a broader set of skills.
B. Economic indicators are sufficient to assess education.
C. The PISA test is a reliable way to measure education quality.
D. Lifelong learning is no longer necessary in the modern world.
D 9. D 10. B 11. A
根据第一段“What constitutes a quality education? Today, quality is most often measured through the PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) standardized tests — and countries are ranked accordingly.(什么是素质教育?今天,质量通常是通过PISA(国际学生评估项目)标准化测试来衡量的,各国也相应地进行排名)”可知,PISA测试的主要用途是评估学生的学术表现,故选D。
【9题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“Rather than pinpointing the single role they’ll play, children may have to prepare for a series of roles, more so than we have been used to.(孩子们可能需要为一系列的角色做准备,而不是确定他们将扮演的单一角色,这比我们过去习惯的角色要多)”以及第四段“The current version of our education system requires each child to be measured against the same standards. We must all fit these particular norms, working towards meeting those specific criteria (标准) . Are we not wasting an awful amount of potential and harming both ourselves and society?(我们现行的教育体系要求用同样的标准来衡量每个孩子。我们都必须符合这些具体规范,努力达到这些具体标准。我们是不是浪费了大量的潜力,伤害了我们自己和社会)”可知,如今的社会要求孩子为一系列角色作准备,而不是以前的单一角色,但如今的教育体系还是用同样的标准来衡量每个孩子,即作者暗示当前的教育体系可能未能适应社会复杂性和多样性,故选D。
可知,作者暗示当前的教育体系可能未能适应社会复杂性和多样性,故选D。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“In healthcare, in the service industry, this is already happening and there is every reason to believe it will continue.(在医疗保健和服务行业,这种情况已经发生,而且有充分的理由相信这种情况将继续下去)”可知,作者对AI在各行业的发展持赞成态度,故选B。
根据第三段“The rapid changes we’re experiencing in our societies are having a substantial impact on the likelihood that our children will find a satisfying path when they are older. Our society is changing dramatically. Rather than pinpointing the single role they’ll play, children may have to prepare for a series of roles, more so than we have been used to.(我们的社会正在经历的快速变化对我们的孩子长大后找到一条令人满意的道路的可能性产生了重大影响。我们的社会正在发生巨大的变化。孩子们可能需要为一系列的角色做准备,而不是确定他们将扮演的单一角色,这比我们过去习惯的要多)”,结合文章作者讨论了PISA 测试与教育质量的关系,并提出教育应该更加注重培养学生的一系列技能,可知作者主要想通过这篇文章传达教育应该培养更广泛的技能。故选A。
D
We all notice bright colors. People who opt for striking attire (服装) and shiny decorative items, hear everything from, “No one is going to miss you at the party” to, “I would never have the guts to wear that.” But according to research, those comments may be both accurate and expected.
Adam D. Pazda and Christopher A. Thorstenson examined how we perceive people at first impression who wear bright colors. They specifically examined the effect of chroma, which means color intensity in a practical way. They found that targets, both male and female, who were wearing or surrounded by high-chroma colors were perceived as more open and extraverted (外向的) than in a low-chroma setting. They concluded that chroma is a variable of perception that can influence first impressions of personality. Drilling down further, they found that high-chroma colors enhanced some viewer perception on personalities, but not other traits: such as emotional stability, agreeableness, reliability, responsibility or innovation. These observations are important because some job capitalize on some of the traits (特征) inferred through bright colors.
Pazda and Thorstenson recognize what job seekers no doubt consider as they look for a career to match their personal disposition: in some occupations, success is fueled by possessing certain personality traits. They give examples of industries such as sales and marketing as well as customer service where individuals with outgoing personalities tend to excel. Accordingly, applicants for these positions may be viewed more favorably and judged as more competent if they wear highly chromatic clothing.
Regarding the generality of their results, Pazda and Thorstenson note that one of the drawbacks of their study was their use of participants living in the United States, which means their findings may not predict results in other cultures. They note the possibility that chroma may influence the perception of personality traits differently in non-Western countries, and that high-chroma clothing may be perceived as varying from social norms in other cultures.
12. What does the underlined word “guts” mean in paragraph 1?
A. Sensitivity. B. Appearance. C. Courage. D. Elegance.
13. Which personalities are believed to relate to people wearing high-chroma colors?
A Innovation and creation. B. Openness and extraversion.
C. Responsibility and reliability. D. Emotional stability and agreeableness.
14. What does the last paragraph focus on?
A. The possible limitation of the research.
B. The explanation of the research methodology.
C. The benefits of high-chroma colors in various jobs
D. The universality of high-chroma colors across cultures.
15. Which of the following can best describe the overall tone of the text?
A. Critical and skeptical. B. Informative and objective.
C. Persuasive and promotional. D. Evaluative and judgmental.
C 13. B 14. A 15. B

根据划线单词句中“I would never have the…to wear that”(我从来没有……
根据第二段中“They specifically examined the effect of chroma, which means color intensity in a practical way. They found that targets, both male and female, who were wearing or surrounded by high-chroma colors were perceived as more open and extraverted (外向的) than in a low-chroma setting.”(他们专门研究了色度的影响,色度指的是一种实用的色彩强度。
根据最后一段中“Regarding the generality of their results, Pazda and Thorstenson note that one of the drawbacks of their study was their use of participants living in the United States, which means their findings may not predict results in other cultures.”(关于他们研究结果的普遍性,Pazda和Thorstenson指出,他们研究的一个缺点是他们使用了生活在美国的参与者,这意味着他们的研究结果可能无法预测其他文化的结果。) 故选A项。

空处引导定语从句,先行词 ancient artifacts (文物) , paintings, and calligraphy,为物,在从句中作主语,所以应用关系代词which或者that。故填which或者that。

故填or。

As the cold of winter loosened its hold and spring was approaching, I found myself in the quiet process of recovery. The world outside my window, once full of life, now seemed like a distant, unreachable place. Each day was a repetition of the last, a cycle that mirrored my own struggle to regain my strength and find hope in a future that felt dark and uncertain.
One afternoon, as I sat mindlessly by the window, a flash of movement caught my eye-a swallow (燕子) under the roof. It was a delicate creature, with its elegant wings. For a moment, it seemed to look at me, its eyes bright and curious, as if it recognized a fellow soul.
“A swallow,” I whispered, looking at the lovely creature, whose liveliness formed a contrast with the silence of the room.
The swallow’s daily visits became a comforting rhythm, as steady as the dawn’s arrival. Each time it appeared on that branch, it wasn’t just a sign of spring; it was like a friend. I found myself looking forward to its daily appearances. Its presence became a flicker (闪现) of warmth in my otherwise lifeless days.
One day, the swallow was not alone; it had been joined by a mate. Together, they began the merry work of building a nest under the roof. Inspired by their joyful spirit, I decided it was time for me to take control of my own life. I began to set small, achievable goals, mirroring the swallows' tireless work on their nest.
However, life can be unpredictable. Just when the nest was almost done, a storm blew in out of nowhere, tearing the nest apart. I watched from my window, my heart aching for the swallows and their broken dream.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
I was worried I would never see the beautiful creatures come back.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Finally, the swallows’ new nest took shape.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I was worried I would never see the beautiful creatures come back. Unexpectedly, the next morning, as the sun drove away the shadows of the night, I was greeted by the sight of the swallows. They were perched on the branch. They did not let the destruction of their nest prevent them from achieving their purpose. Instead, they started anew. They flew in and out of the courtyard once again, building under the roof. I was so touched by the sight that I had tears of joy and admiration.
Finally, the swallows’ new nest took shape. The swallows’ nest stood as a reminder that even when life throws us off course, we have the power to navigate back to our intended path. The swallows had become more than just visitors to my window; they had become a source of inspiration. As the seasons changed, so did I. In time, the swallows welcomed their young, and I welcomed a new chapter in my life — a chapter of hope, strength, and the unwavering belief that even in the face of adversity, we can rise and rebuild.

Shooting down a slide in hard hat and vest (马甲) or smiling broadly in cool shades, Pop soon became a social-media sensation.
D He organizes competitions for the best waterslide testers.
C

We all notice bright colors. People who opt for striking attire (服装) and shiny decorative items hear everything from, “No one is going to miss you at the party” to, “I would never have the guts to wear that.” But according to research, those comments may be both accurate and expected.
A. Innovation and creation.
