Dali in Yunnan Province With the TV drama Meet Yourself earlier last year, Dali in Yunnan Province emerged as a highly sought-after tourism destination. During the Spring Festival holiday, Yunnan Province received the second most tourists in the nation with a tourism profit of 38.4 billion yuan, ranking top. Among this, Dali received 4.24 million tourists, marking a remarkable 219 percent increase compared to the previous year. Jiangmen in Guangdong Province Thanks to the success of the hit show The Knockout, Jiangmen in Guangdong Province became an outstanding tourism destination last year Data reveals a remarkable 217 percent month-on-month increase in searches related to tourism in the city in February. Currently, travel bookings witness a substantial 144 percent month-on-month rise. Taiyuan Ancient County in Shanxi Province Full River Red has set Taiyuan Ancient County in Shanxi on fire with excitement. From Jan. 21 to 31, the county witnessed over 400,000 tourists, a significant rise compared to the about 180,000 visitors during the previous Spring Festival holiday. Notably, one-third of these tourists were from outside Shanxi Province. Ningbo Museum in Zhejiang Province With the broadcast of the TV drama Three-Body Problem, Ningbo Museum has gained significant attention. The number of tourists during the Spring Festival last year was about 23,000, but this year was a 120% increase. Even after the festival, there were 2,000 to 3,000 visitors daily consistently. 1. What was the impact of Meet Yourself? A. It contributed to the tourism profits. B. It helped Dali earn 38. 4 billion yuan. C. It made Yunnan a tourism destination. D. It ranked Dali a top tourism destination. 2. Which place has a promising reservation at present? A. Dali. B. Taiyuan Ancient County. C. Jiangmen. D. Ningbo Museum. 3. How many people visited Ningbo Museum during the Spring Festival this year? A. Nearly 23,000. B. Below 400,000. C. About 50,000. D. 2,000 to 3,000. B In Bududa, a lush yet landslide-prone district of eastern Uganda, Mary Butsina and a growing number of other women farmers are building their livelihoods around coffee. “I’m supporting all of my 10 children with it.” says the 36-year-old, holding a red bucket. From farming stock, Mary first went to work with her father at the age of 10. Profits from his coffee crop covered her school fees. She married into coffee too, with her husband giving her 100 trees as a wedding present. But Mary’s since planted more than 300 herself and joined a women’s cooperative. “The aim was to reduce the dependence of women on men in coffee.” Mary says, though husbands are allowed to join too—as they tend to own the coffee plantations and support their wives. “More women have started to plant their own coffee.” she says. Mary rises early every day to pick the coffee cherries. “It’s hard work but when you concentrate it can become easy.” says Mary. After gathering the ripe fruit, she puts it in a bucket of water to weed out the unhealthy cherries. The beans are then fermented (发酵) in water for at least two days before being laid out to dry in direct sunlight. Once dried, the beans are gathered up and later collected by Endiro Coffee, a social enterprise working with women-led, organic farms. The coffee is later milled, roasted and ground, ready for use. It hasn’t been an easy journey for the Bududa farmers, who’ve faced annual landslides for the past 15 years. In 2018, Mary’s mother’s house was destroyed and she lost some of her coffee plantations. She dreams of living in a solidly built house with water nearby, so she doesn’t have to trek (跋涉) a long way to fetch it-but these will take time to save for. “I’ve worked a lot and I don’t want to stop, but I want my money to work for me.” she says. 4. What role does coffee play in Mary’s hometown? A. A significant source of income. B. A bond of love and marriage. C. A symbol of wealth and status. D. A barrier to frequent landslides. 5. How does the women’s cooperative benefit female coffee farmers? A. By providing them with high quality trees. B. By accessing them to better sales channels. C. By liberating them from their husbands. D. By enabling them to control their business. 6. Why is the processing of coffee beans mentioned in Paragraph 3? A. To display Mary’s technical proficiency. B. To prove the high quality of Ugandan coffee. C. To highlight Mary’s dedication and diligence. D. To emphasize the difficulties of planting coffee. 7. What does Mary mean in the last sentence of the text? A. She plans to expand her coffee planting business. B. She desires to achieve economic independence. C. She thinks the road to happiness is still distant. D. She believes her hard work will finally pay off. C For decades, scientists thought of the brain as the most valuable and consequently most closely guarded part of the body. Locked safely behind the blood-brain barrier, it was broadly free of the harm of viruses and the battles started by the immune system Then, about 20 years ago, some researchers began to wonder: is the brain really so separated from the body? The answer, according to a growing body of evidence, is no. The list of brain conditions that have been associated with changes elsewhere in the body is long and growing. Changes in the makeup of the microorganisms in the digestive system have been linked to disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. There is also a theory that infection during pregnancy could lead to brain diseases in babies. The effect is two-way. There is a lengthening list of symptoms not typically viewed as disorders of the nervous system, but the brain plays a large part in them. For example, the development of a fever is influenced by a population of nerve cells that control body temperature and appetite. Evidence is mounting that cancers use nerves to grow and spread. The interconnection between the brain and body has promising implications for our ability to both understand and treat illnesses. If some brain disorders start outside the brain, then perhaps treatments for them could also reach in from outside. Treatments that take effect through the digestive system, the heart or other organs, would be much easier and less risky than those that must cross the blood-brain barrier. It also works in the opposite direction. Study shows mice have healthier hearts after receiving stimulation to a brain area involved in positive emotion and motivation. Activation of the brain reward centre — called the ventral tegmental area (VTA) — seems to cause immune changes that contribute to it. Working out how this happens could help to destroy cancers, enhance responses to vaccines and even re-evaluate physical diseases that, for centuries, have not been considered as being psychologically driven. 8. What do the researchers focus on about the brain? A. Its protecting system. B. Its exposure to diseases. C. Its controlling function. D. Its connection to the body. 9. How does the author support his idea in paragraph 2? A. By explaining a theory. B. By providing examples. C. By making comparisons. D. By presenting cause and effect. 10. Which best describes treatments that do not cross the blood-brain barrier? A. Cheaper. B. More specific. C. Safer. D. More direct. 11. What does the study suggest in the last paragraph? A. Brain health depends on immune changes. B Brain stimulation leads to negative emotions. C. The brain can help enhance psychological health. D. The brain may be key to treating physical diseases. D Birders get nervous when they see landscapes covered in wind turbines (涡轮机). When the wind gets going, their blades (叶片) can turn around at well over 200km per hour. It is easy to imagine careless birds getting cut into pieces and wind turbines do indeed kill at least some birds. But a new analysis of American data suggests the numbers are negligible, and have little impact on bird populations. Erik Katovich, an economist at the University of Geneva, made use of the Christmas BirdCount, a citizen-science project run by the National Audubon Society. Volunteers count birds they spot over Christmas, and the society gathers the numbers. He assumed, reasonably, that if wind turbines harmed bird populations, the numbers seen in the Christmas Bird Count would drop in places where new turbines had been built. Combining bird population and species maps with the locations and construction dates of all wind turbines, he found building turbines had no noticeable effect on bird populations. Instead of limiting his analysis to wind power alone, he also examined oil-and-gas extraction (开采), which has boomed in America over the past couple of decades. Comparing bird populations to the locations of new gas wells revealed an average 15% drop in bird numbers when new wells were drilled, probably due to a combination of noise, air pollution and the disturbance of rivers and ponds that many birds rely upon. When drilling happened in migration centers, feeding grounds or breeding locations, bird numbers instead dropped by 25%. Wind power, in other words, not only produces far less planet-heating carbon dioxide and methane than do fossil fuels. It appears to be significantly less damaging to wildlife, too. Yet that is not the impression you would get from reading the news. Dr Katovich found 173 stories in major American news media reporting the supposed negative effects that wind turbines had on birds in 2020, compared with only 46 stories discussing the effects of oil-and-gas wells. 12. What does the underlined word“negligible”in paragraph 1 mean? A. Insignificant. B. Inaccurate. C. Inconsistent. D. Indefinite. 13. What is Dr Katovich's conclusion based on? A. Previous studies. B. Relevant data. C. Reasonable prediction. D. Experiment results. 14. What message does paragraph 3 mainly try to convey? A. Oil-and-gas extraction has expanded in America. B. Birds are heavily dependent on rivers and ponds. C. Many factors lead to the decline of bird populations. D. Well drilling poses a serious threat to birds' survival. 15. Which of the following may Dr Katovich agree with? A. Wind turbines could share the sky with wildlife. B. More evidence is needed to confirm the finding. C. Wind power will be substituted for fossil fuels. D. Wind turbines deserve wider media coverage. When we are faced with a crisis, or if we have an important decision to make, many of us fall into the trap of over-thinking. Shopping once a month was a well-planned process. My list was organized so that I wouldn’t miss even one item. A gentleman stood behind me with three items in his hands. He looked up at his watch then at me and smiled. I’d already let a person ahead of me with a single item. While my daughter was behaving well. I knew I’d pushed her longer than her endurance promised to last. Still, I felt for the man: He obviously had to be somewhere, and he’d be behind me a good long time. “Why don’t you go ahead of me?” I said shifting the cart backwards. “You only have a couple of items.” “Thank you,” he replied appreciatively, stepping ahead of me. My daughter gave him a broad smile. “Heh wo,” she said in her sweetest voice. “Hello,” he replied, taken off guard by her friendliness. His face lit with pleasure. As the belt moved forward, I started unloading my cart. I was only halfway finished unloading the first cart when a realization hit me. My husband had borrowed my bank card the night before and he hadn’t returned it. My heart dropped. The gentleman in front of me had paid and was picking up his groceries. “I’ve forgotten my bank card. Could I pay with my phone?” I asked the cashier hopefully. “I’m sorry We only accept credit card or cash.” The cashier looked at the amount of groceries impatiently. I’m sure she was predicting she’d have to put items back on the shelves. “It will take me two hours to run home and back. Can you just put my stuff on the side please?” I was discouraged. All my careful planning hadn’t helped. The hour and a half of shopping left me tired out and I wasn’t sure how my daughter would handle another two hours in the car. Just then, the gentleman in front of me smiled at me. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next morning, I knocked at the gentleman’s door to return the money.  _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 惠东县2024—2025学年第一学期高三年级第一次质量检测 英语 2024. 08 试卷共8页,卷面满分120分。 A Over the past year, several films and TV dramas have put their shooting locations into the public spotlight. How does the author support his idea in paragraph 2? A. By explaining a theory. B. By providing examples. C. By making comparisons. D. By presenting cause and effect. 10. Which best describes treatments that do not cross the blood-brain barrier? A. Cheaper. B. More specific. C. Safer. D. More direct. 11. What does the study suggest in the last paragraph? A. Brain health depends on immune changes. B. Brain stimulation leads to negative emotions. C. The brain can help enhance psychological health. D. The brain may be key to treating physical diseases. D 9. B 10. C 11. 根据第一段“Then, about 20 years ago, some researchers began to wonder: is the brain really so separated from the body? The answer, according to a growing body of evidence, is no. (然后,大约20年前,一些研究人员开始怀疑:大脑真的与身体如此分离吗?根据越来越多的证据,答案是否定的。)”可知,研究人员主要研究大脑与身体的联系。故选D。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“The list of brain conditions that have been associated with changes elsewhere in the body is long and growing. Changes in the makeup of the microorganisms in the digestive system have been linked to disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. There is also a theory that infection during pregnancy could lead to brain diseases in babies. (与身体其他部位变化相关的大脑状况清单很长,而且还在不断增加。消化系统中微生物组成的变化与帕金森病等疾病有关。还有一种理论认为,怀孕期间的感染可能会导致婴儿脑部疾病。)”可知,这一段作者主要通过消化系统和怀孕期间的感染2个例子来论证自己的观点,说明大脑并不是身体中保护最严密的部分。故选B。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“Treatments that take effect through the digestive system, the heart or other organs, would be much easier and less risky than those that must cross the blood-brain barrier. (通过消化系统、心脏或其他器官进行的治疗比必须穿过血脑屏障的治疗更容易,风险更小。)”可知,不通过血脑屏障的治疗风险更小。故选C。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Study shows mice have healthier hearts after receiving stimulation to a brain area involved in positive emotion and motivation. (研究表明,在大脑中涉及积极情绪和动机的区域受到刺激后,小鼠的心脏更健康。大脑奖赏中心——被称为腹侧被盖区(VTA)——的激活似乎会导致免疫变化。弄清楚这种情况是如何发生的,可以帮助摧毁癌症,增强对疫苗的反应,甚至重新评估几个世纪以来一直不被认为是心理驱动的物理疾病。)”可知,大脑可能是治疗身体疾病的关键。故选D。 D Birders get nervous when they see landscapes covered in wind turbines (涡轮机). A 13. B 14. D 15. 根据划线单词前的“a new analysis of American data suggests the numbers(但一项对美国数据的新分析表明)”以及划线单词后的“and have little impact on bird populations.(并且对鸟类种群的影响很小。)” 故选A项。 根据第二段中的“Erik Katovich, an economist at the University of Geneva, made use of the Christmas Bird Count, a citizen-science project run by the National Audubon Society.(日内瓦大学的经济学家埃里克·卡托维奇(Erik Katovich)利用了圣诞鸟类统计,这是一个由美国国家奥杜邦协会(National Audubon Society)运营的公民科学项目。)” 根据第三段“Comparing bird populations to the locations of new gas wells revealed an average 15% drop in bird numbers when new wells were drilled, probably due to a combination of noise, air pollution and the disturbance of rivers and ponds that many birds rely upon. When drilling happened in migration centers, feeding grounds or breeding locations, bird numbers instead dropped by 25%.(将鸟类数量与新气井的位置进行比较发现,当新气井钻探时,鸟类数量平均下降了15%,这可能是由于噪音、空气污染以及鸟类赖以生存的河流和池塘的干扰。当钻探发生在迁徙中心、觅食地或繁殖地时,鸟类数量反而下降了25%。)”可知,油气钻探造成了鸟类数量的减少,由此可以推断,油气钻探给鸟类的生存带来了严重的威胁。故选D项。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据尾段中的“It appears to be significantly less damaging to wildlife, too(它对野生动物的伤害似乎也要小得多。)” 故选A项。 When we are faced with a crisis, or if we have an important decision to make, many of us fall into the trap of over-thinking. But taking the smallest step off the crisis really matters. It will set things in motion, making you like a snowball. ____19____ The traps are things that cause your natural ability to react without you realizing that there is a connection between the two. Thus avoiding relevant traps is also a good idea. ____20____ For example, if one of your colleagues is so negative that she always drags you down, stop hanging out with her by having lunch alone at a nearby restaurant. A. This mindset tends to ruin our day. B. Put simply, out of sight, out of mind. C. Just as a saying goes, once bitten, twice shy. D. You are really getting your brain working for you. E. You do not have time to focus on something different, which can cause over-thinking.(研究表明,当一个人在兴奋和焦虑中看到某事时,大脑被迫陷入当下,因为你所有的感官都完全参与其中。 【19题详解】 根据上文“Constant wishing, hoping and praying do not give you any relief. They just keep you stuck in one place. But taking the smallest step off the crisis really matters. It will set things in motion, making you like a snowball.(不断的希望、希望和祈祷并没有给你任何解脱。 【20题详解】 根据前文“The traps are things that cause your natural ability to react without you realizing that there is a connection between the two. Thus, avoiding relevant traps is also a good idea.(陷阱是在你没有意识到这两者之间有联系的情况下,引起你的自然反应能力的事情。 Tobias, a 35-year-old Belgian musician, has become popular on social media for his excellent grasp of the Shanghai dialect. My two-year-old daughter was lovingly squished (挤) between a stack of groceries in one of my two shopping carts (购物车). Shopping once a month was a well-planned process. My list was organized so that I wouldn’t miss even one item. A gentleman stood behind me with three items in his hands. He looked up at his watch, then at me and smiled. “I’m sorry. We only accept credit card or cash.” The cashier looked at the amount of groceries impatiently. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Just then, the gentleman in front of me smiled at me. “Don’t worry,” he said. “I’ll pay for your groceries.” I was surprised and grateful. “That’s very kind of you, but I can’t accept it,” I replied. “Please, it’s my pleasure,” he insisted. Before I could say anything else, he had paid for my groceries and left with a smile. The next morning, I knocked at the gentleman’s door to return the money.
