Well done, Javier, on all your hard work this term. You are always active in speaking activities, and this is great. I always enjoy rending your welting, too. You have very good ideas. You can see from your marks that rending is not a problem for you,
Sometimes you still make small grammar mistakes, and I think you can improve your vocabulary. I recommend you review many of the language points we have studied this term. There is extra language practice in your online workbook.
The area you need to work on most is listening. I know this is difficult for you. I recommend more practice at home. Listen to English TV shows, podcasts (播客) and radio as much as possible. I can give you a list of things to listen to.
I’ve enjoyed working with you. Have a nice holiday, and good luck for next term!
Teacher’s name: Erin Gibbs

Keeping a travel journal (日志) is one of the best ways to keep the memory(记忆) of a trip alive. There’s nothing like going back and reading your own words describing a day in a foreign country to realize how easy it is to forget little details. For people who do not write often, keeping a travel journal doesn’t have to be hard. It doesn’t require much work. I usually set aside 15-20 minutes at night before going to bed.
I like to use a notebook and pen because it feels different from typing on a computer, which makes journaling more special. Besides, I believe that handwritten journals will last longer than digital documents(数字文档) and won’t become dated. I recently came across a bag of old travel journals from my grandmother’s home, describing a year of camping around Europe and the Middle East in the 1970s as well as her life on the island of Crete for three years. They’re still readable and I love seeing her handwriting once again.
While I recommend paper journals for daily writing, it doesn’t hurt to have a multi-media approach(多媒体方法).For example, on a bus in Sri Lanka, it was too bumpy (颠簸的) to write by hand, so I used my phone to take notes whenever thoughts came to me. This turned out to be a rich store of information that might have been meaningless to anyone else, but made perfect sense to me.
When keeping a travel journal, I also suggest focusing on the most important or memorable part of each day, rather than doing an hour-by-hour description. Ask yourself what made you smile, laugh, or cry, what you ate or smelled in the air, and what the locals were doing. Keeping a travel journal should be fun, but it is important to make it a daily habit.
4. What does the author think of keeping a travel journal?
A. It helps improve our language skills. B. It makes our trips seem planned.
C. It is less difficult than we think. D. It should be a bedtime habit.
5. What does the author want to express by mentioning the old travel journals?
A. How he organized his journals. B. How long he has kept journals.
C. Who he learned journaling from. D. Why he likes handwritten journals.
6. What did the author do while on a bus in Sri Lanka?
A. He read a local paper. B. He wrote on his phone.
C. He reviewed his daily journals. D. He thought about the meaning of writing.
7. What is suggested for keeping a travel journal in the last paragraph?
A. Doing it every day. B. Including more details.
C. Focusing on local history. D. Sharing less personal feelings.
C 5. D 6. B 7. A
根据第一段中的“Keeping a travel journal doesn’t have to be hard. It doesn’t require much work. I usually set aside 15 − 20 minutes at night before going to bed (写一本旅行日记并不一定很难。这不需要太多的工作。我通常在晚上睡觉前留出15-20分钟)”可知,作者结合自己写旅行日志的习惯,表达了自己的看法:写旅行日志并非我们想的那么难。故选C。
【5题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“I like to use a notebook and pen because it feels different from typing on a computer, which makes journaling more special.
根据第三段中的“For example, on a bus in Sri Lanka, it was too bumpy (颠簸的) to write by hand, so I used my phone to take notes whenever thoughts came to me. (例如,在斯里兰卡的一辆公共汽车上,由于路面太颠簸,我无法用手写字,所以每当我想到什么,我就用手机做笔记。)”可知,在斯里兰卡颠簸的公交车上,作者发现用手写字很困难,所以每当他想到什么,就用手机记下来。故选B。
【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“Keeping a travel journal should be fun, but it is important to make it a daily habit. (写旅行日记应该很有趣,但养成日常习惯也很重要。)”可知,作者建议坚持每天写旅行日志。故选A。

As much as I love watching Olympic diving, I’ve never understood why athletes hurry off to the showers and then proceed to relax in a hot tub (热水浴池) after each dive. They’re already wet. They’re only in the pool for a handful of seconds, so it’s not like they need to get cleaned up. And doesn’t taking a shower serve the same purpose as sitting in a hot tub? Actually, that’s what Olympic divers usually do between dives as they know very well about the importance of warm-ups and cool-downs. So, what’s the actual reason?
As it turns out, showers and hot tubs are used pretty interchangeably by the swimming pool. However, there is a need for both. First, let’s start with why divers need to take a shower between dives. It has to do with body temperature and keeping their muscles relaxed. As you can imagine, practicing dives in the pool, then having to keep your body warm in a shower, and then jumping off a 10-meter platform and into cold water couldn’t be comfortable for anyone. Going back and forth between these warm and cool temperatures can cause a diver’s muscles to tense or cramp up (痉挛), which can lead to injuries to the muscles. Showers allow an Olympic diver to recover and prevent that.
In that way, showers and hot tubs serve the same purpose. A hot tub is generally used if you have a bit more time between dives and have already stretched. The shower walls on the pool deck can typically provide enough space for more divers at the same time, and they’re especially helpful for athletes who need to stretch or who only have a few minutes between dives. Just like Olympic swimmers depend on thick clothes to keep their muscles warm, Olympic divers rely on these methods to stay loose. If you ask me, it’s not a bad way to pass the time!
8. What does the underlined word “proceed” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A. Fail. B. Continue. C. Stop. D. Afford.
9. Why do the athletes need showers after diving?
A. To fully clean their body. B. To rest and wait for the results.
C To avoid possible muscle injuries. D. To stop themselves from catching a cold.
10. What does the last paragraph suggest?
A. The shower walls are designed for divers in the final round.
B. Olympic swimmers need to stay warm using hot tubs.
C. Athletes usually do some activities to pass the time.
D. Hot tubs are as important as showers for divers.
11. What is the author’s purpose in writing this text?
A. To tell us the difference between diving and swimming.
B. To explain some little-known knowledge about divers.
C. To compare cold showers with the hot bath.
D. To provide some diving advice for us.
【答案】8 B 9. C 10. D 11. B
They’re only in the pool for a handful of seconds, so it’s not like they need to get cleaned up. And doesn’t taking a shower serve the same purpose as sitting in a hot tub?(他们已经湿了。他们只在泳池里待了几秒钟,所以不需要清理。淋浴和泡在热水浴缸里不是有同样的作用吗?)”可知,本句主要是在说明运动员们每次跳水后都匆匆淋浴,然后继续在热水浴缸里放松。故猜测划线词proceed是“继续”的意思。故选B项。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“Going back and forth between these warm and cool temperatures can cause a diver’s muscles to tense or cramp up(痉挛), which can lead to injuries to the muscles. Showers allow an Olympic diver to recover and prevent that.(在这些温暖和凉爽的温度之间来回会导致跳水运动员的肌肉紧张或抽筋,这可能导致肌肉受伤。淋浴可以让奥运选手恢复并防止这种情况)”可知,运动员跳水后淋浴是为了避免可能的肌肉损伤。故选C项。
【10题详解】
主旨大意题。根据最后一段“In that way, showers and hot tubs serve the same purpose.
通读全文,并根据第一段“As much as I love watching Olympic diving, I’ve never understood why athletes hurry off to the showers and then proceed to relax in a hot tub (热水浴池) after each dive. They’re already wet. They’re only in the pool for a handful of seconds, so it’s not like they need to get cleaned up. And doesn’t taking a shower serve the same purpose as sitting in a hot tub?
D
Plastic straws (吸管) are a modern invention, although people have been using different types of things for drinking water for centuries. By the 1960s, plastic straws have become common. It is said that 500 million straws are used just in the United States each day.
So what’s the problem? The problem is that plastics, including plastic straws that are usually thrown away after one use, end up in the world’s oceans. As many as 8.3 billion plastic straws pollute the world’s beaches and oceans.
There are many choices for people who need or want a straw. Paper straws are becoming popular.
Straws made from a new kind of plastic, which is biodegradable (可生物降解的) and made from plants, are also a good choice. Companies are also marketing reusable straws made of glass or metal. People can carry these straws with them to use when they go to a restaurant. However, paper straws are about 6 cents each, and reusable glass straws are about 50 to 60 cents each, while a regular plastic straw only costs about a cent. That adds up for restaurants and food sellers that offer straws.
Because the use of plastic straws is getting a lot of attention these days, many businesses have decided not to use them. Starbucks has said that it will stop using plastic straws. McDonald’s announced that it will start banning (禁止) straws at its restaurants in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Hotel chains such as Hilton, Marriott, and Hyatt plan to stop using them. Even the whole cities, like Seattle, are banning the use of plastic straws. California now has a law in place that customers will only be given a straw if they ask for one.
The next time you’re buying something to drink, think about your straw choices. Reuse, reduce, and recycle.
12. What can we know about the plastic straws from the text?
A. They are a modem invention. B. They are seldom used in daily life.
C. They were invented in 1960. D. They have been popular for centuries.
13. What’s the problem of using plastic straws?
A. Plastic straws are not easy to use for most people.
B. Plastic straws are usually thrown away everywhere.
C. Plastic straws cause big pollution to beaches and oceans.
D. Plastic straws are difficult to make and waste a lot of money.
14. Which straw costs the least according to Paragraph 3?
A. The paper straw. B. The plastic straw.
C. The glass straw. D. The metal straw.
15. What’s the purpose of the text?
A. To share a new way of drinking water.
B. To introduce a new law against water pollution.
C. To explain the history and development of restaurants.
D. To show the importance of using fewer plastic straws.
A 13. C 14. B 15. D

As many as 8.3 billion plastic straws pollute the world’s beaches and oceans.(问题是,塑料,包括通常一次使用后就被丢弃的塑料吸管,最终进入了世界的海洋。
根据文章第三段“However, paper straws are about 6 cents each, and reusable glass straws are about 50 to 60 cents each, while a regular plastic straw only costs about a cent.(然而,纸质吸管每根约6美分,可重复使用的玻璃吸管每根约50至60美分,而普通塑料吸管的价格仅为1美分。)”
根据文章第二段“The problem is that plastics, including plastic straws that are usually thrown away after one use, end up in the world’s oceans.(问题是,塑料,包括通常一次使用后就被丢弃的塑料吸管,最终进入了世界的海洋)”说明塑料吸管会造成海洋污染,结合最后一段“The next time you’re buying something to drink, think about your straw choices. Reuse, reduce, and recycle.(下次你买东西喝的时候,想想你选择的吸管。重复使用、减少使用和循环利用。)”可知,我们应该少用塑料吸管,由此可知,作者写本文是为了表明少用塑料吸管的重要性。故选D。

【36题详解】
考查非谓语动词。句意:舞狮是中国传统民间艺术,是为了庆祝农历新年而吸引好运和繁荣的。根据固定搭配“in celebration of”可知,in为介词,后接名词作宾语。
故填has been performed。
此处“with dancers jumping up onto chairs, balance beams, or upturned vases with balance and skills”为with的复合结构作伴随状语,表示“舞狮时舞者们会做什么”,构成with+宾语+宾语补足语(-ing)的结构。故填with。

故填a。

C
C. To avoid possible muscle injuries.
