To help you figure out what to watch, we take a dive into the collection and list some options released in the last two years or so that are well-worth a watch. Penguin Bloom (2021) 95 mins, directed by Glendyn Ivin Naomi Watts stars in this emotional roller-coaster of a film about a woman struggling to recover from a catastrophic injury. The Sea Beast (2022) 115 mins, directed by Chris Williams Chris Williams directs this animated high-sea adventure about a young girl who boards a famous monster-hunting ship secretly, only to discover that everything she thought she knew about monsters and hunters might be wrong. Karl Urban voices legendary hunter Jacob Holland in this all-age feature. The film records Pinocchio’s chase to become a living boy—a journey that brings him through one adventure after another. 1. What is the purpose of this passage? A. To introduce famous directors. B. To give instructions on diving. C. To advertise for Netflix company. D. To offer movie recommendations. 2. Which film would probably encourage viewers who suffer from pain? A. Penguin Bloom. B. Metal Lords. C. The Sea Beast. D. Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio. 3. What do the last two films have in common? A. They are based on real adventures. B. They are targeted at animation lovers. C. They are suitable for people of all ages. D. They are adapted from children’s novels. B “I’ll be there in a few minutes. I’m playing a game with a friend a guy named Scuzzball,” my 15-year-old son shouted from his room. “Oh, what is Scuzzball’s real name?” I asked. “I have no idea.” He said. “Where is he from?” I continued. He responded, “I think somewhere in Canada. Oh, wait, it doesn’t even matter because Scuzzball just left and he has been replaced with a robot.” “Your friend is replaced by artificial intelligence?” “It doesn’t matter, Dad. It happens all the time! The game continues.” My son doesn’t mind playing with a person or a robot, which is typical of games these days. I wonder whether the face-to-face experience of friendship that I grew up with will be lost by our children. Aristotle, a great thinker and educator, has pointed out that shallow friendship is easily formed but also easily abandoned because such bonds are fragile. Deep friendship, by contrast, is when you care for your friend for his sake, not for any benefit you can get. This is selfless friendship. You can have only a couple of these friends because they require lots of time and effort. You must make sacrifices for each other. Presence in friendship requires “being with” and “‘doing for”. Perhaps the most defining feature of deep friendship is “doing for”, as my friend has my back in trouble or brings me soup when I’m sick. Only strong bonds have the power to motivate real sacrifices. But it is unclear why online “friends” would bother to do the hard work of friendship. When I asked my students whether they had people in their lives who would bring them soup when they were sick, they laughed at my Stone Age question and said they’d just order soup online themselves. Digital life fills and absorbs waking life time so that people do not join in an example case of friendship, like sports, collective arts, free range childhoods, etc. In this way, digital life produces false friendships. 4. How does the author lead in the topic of the text? A. By quoting famous mottoes. B. By introducing an online game. C. By showing robots’ irreplaceable role. D. By presenting a parent-child conversation. 5. What does the author mainly explain in Paragraph 3? A. Impact of selfish friendship. B. The meaning of deep friendship. C. Selfless sacrifices in friendship. D. The formation of shallow friendship. 6. What can we infer from Paragraph 4? A. Robots will have our back in trouble. B. Virtual friends won’t make real sacrifices. C. The students thought highly of the teacher’s question. D. Ordering food online for friends is an example of “being with”. 7. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text? A. Digitalized Friendship B. The Benefits of Digital Life C. Face-to-face Communication D. The Sacrifices of Online Friends C Are you interested in students in other countries? Do they also have so much homework like you? What do they do in their spare time? Who are the most distracted? D From a young age, many of us learn the benefits of being an extrovert —those individuals who always seem to be the life and soul of the party, often outspoken and able to express their opinions fluently. However, not all of us are wired that way —so is being an extrovert really better? While thinking of an extrovert, we imagine a character who is determined, approachable, cheerful and charming. We are taught to admire these personalities early on. Kids are often encouraged to interact, play and communicate with other children. It seems at times as though children are made to have a more outgoing lifestyle, with some people becoming false extroverts introverts who copy extrovert behavior. While externally they may seem to enjoy the company of others, or being in the center of public attention, they can still become over—extended in intense social situations. So, while the positive aspects of being an extrovert are plain to see, what are the benefits of introversion? Although extroverts depend on social interaction, introverts are more comfortable with levels of isolation. According to Dr Berit, a college professor, extreme isolation such as times like the lockdown, does not affect introverts as much as extroverts. Lack of social contact, something extroverts rely on, can lead to depression, loneliness, and even death. But it’s not just in an extreme situation that an introvert shines through. These people seem to have more time for deep thought and thus can become more balanced. They also tend to be good listeners and think before they speak, meaning they could become great friends. Finally, introverts are often fantastic observers, as sitting out of the focus can give them more time to watch the behavior of others. So, whatever your personality, either introvert or extrovert, there are clear advantages to being either, and if you meet an introvert, you might just end up with an amazing friend. 12. What is a distinctive characteristic of an extrovert? A. Intelligent. B. Considerate. C. Sociable. D. Responsible. 13. Which statement is true according to Dr Berit? A. Introverts should learn from extroverts. B. Extroverts tend to become better friends. C. Introverts prefer staying cut off from others. D. Extroverts find it tougher to handle isolation. 14. What does paragraph 4 mainly tell us? A. The influence of introverts. B. The strengths of being introverts. C. The causes of introverts’ behavior. D. The personalities of false introverts. 15. What’s the purpose of the text? A. To state a viewpoint. B. To advocate a lifestyle. C. To introduce a technique. D. To describe a phenomenon. Success is so much more than just money or fame. ____16____ This allows you to be true to who you really are. I was 15 and feeling sad because there was not enough money to buy the dress I wanted. After supper, I sat by the fireplace, waiting for Pa to read the Bible. But Pa didn’t get the Bible; instead, he went outside. Several minutes later, he shouted in the yard, “Come on, Elizabeth. Bundle up. It’s cold out.” I was upset. Not only wasn’t I getting the dress; now Pa was dragging me out in the cold. As I opened the door, a big sled(雪橇)stood before me. I unwillingly climbed up. We loaded it with wood. We loaded the sled so high that I began to wonder whether the horses would be able to pull it. Before we set off, Pa hurried to the kitchen and returned with a sack of flour over his right shoulder and a smaller sack of something in his left hand. I felt puzzled and annoyed. “What’s in the little sack?” I asked. “Shoes. They’re out of shoes. Little Jake had gunnysacks(黄麻袋)wrapped around his feet when I saw him digging for wood in the snow yesterday. I also brought some candy for the kids.” We rode the two miles to the Little Jake’s place in silence. I tried to think through what Pa was doing. Widow(寡妇)Clark, Jack’s mother, had closer neighbors than us. Why was it our concern? We unloaded the wood and knocked on the door. Mrs. Clark opened the door. She had a blanket wrapped around her shoulders. The three children were huddled (挤在一起)underneath another blanket, sitting in front of a small fire. Pa set the sack of flour on the table and handed her the other sack. She opened it hesitantly and took out the shoes, a pair for her and one pair for each of the children. She bit her lower lip to keep it from trembling as tears ran down her cheeks. She looked at Pa as if she wanted to say something, but nothing came out. Pa turned to me and said, “Elizabeth, go bring in enough wood to heat this place up.” I had a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Before we left, Pa took each of the kids in his big arms and gave them a hug. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力答案:1-5 CABCC 6-10 AACBB 11-15 ACCBC 16-20 CCBAC 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 湖南省常德市汉寿县第一中学2024-2025学年 高三上学期开学考试英语试卷 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分 30 分) 第一节(共 5 小题;每小题 1.5 分,满分 7.5 分) 听下面 5 段对话。 1. To help you figure out what to watch, we take a dive into the collection and list some options released in the last year or so that are well-worth a watch.(待在家里看Netflix电影很舒服。 根据Penguin Bloom部分中的“Naomi Watts stars in this emotional roller-coaster of a film about a woman struggling to recover from a catastrophic injury.(Naomi Watts主演了这部情绪过山车般的电影,讲述了一个女人从灾难性的伤害中挣扎着恢复的故事。)” 故选A项。 根据The Sea Beast部分中的“Chris Williams directs this animated high-sea adventure about a young girl who boards a famous monster-hunting ship secretly, only to discover that everything she thought she knew about monsters and hunters might be wrong.( Chris Williams执导的这部动画公海冒险片讲述了一个年轻女孩秘密登上一艘著名的怪物猎船,却发现她以为自己对怪物和猎人的了解可能都是错误的。)”可知,该影片为一部Chris Williams执导的动画影片,以及Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio部分中的“One of Hollywood most visionary filmmakers turns his attention to one of the most beloved tales in children’s literature in this animated adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s 1883 novel The Adventures of Pinocchio.(这部动画改编自Carlo Collodi 1883年的小说《匹诺曹历险记》,是好莱坞最有远见的电影制作人之一,他把注意力转向了儿童文学中最受欢迎的故事之一。)” B “I’ll be there in a few minutes. I’m playing a game with a friend, a guy named Scuzzball,” my 15-year-old son shouted from his room. The Sacrifices of Online Friends 【答案】4. D 5. B 6. B 7. 根据第一段““I’ll be there in a few minutes. He responded, “I think somewhere in Canada. Oh, wait, it doesn’t even matter because Scuzzball just left the game and he has been replaced with a robot.”(“我几分钟后就到。 根据第三段中“Deep friendship, by contrast, is when you care for your friend for his sake, not for any benefit you can get. This is selfless friendship. You can have only a couple of these friends because they require lots of time and effort. You must make sacrifices for each other.(相比之下,深厚的友谊是你关心你的朋友是为了他,而不是为了你能得到什么好处。这就是无私的友谊。你只能有几个这样的朋友,因为他们需要大量的时间和精力。你们必须为彼此做出牺牲。)”可知,作者主要在第3段解释了深厚友谊的意义。故选B。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“Only strong bonds have the power to motivate real sacrifices. But it is unclear why online “friends” would bother to do the hard work of friendship. When I asked my students whether they had people in their lives who would bring them soup when they were sick, they laughed at my Stone Age question and said they’d just order soup online themselves.(只有牢固的纽带才能激励人们做出真正的牺牲。但目前尚不清楚为什么网上的“朋友”会费心去做艰难的友谊工作。当我问我的学生,他们生活中是否有人会在生病时给他们端汤时,他们嘲笑我的石器时代问题,说他们自己只会在网上点汤。)”可知,虚拟朋友不会做出真正的牺牲。故选B。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第二段最后一句“I wonder whether the face-to-face experience of friendship that I grew up with will be lost by our children.(我不知道我们的孩子是否会失去我成长过程中面对面的友谊体验。)”,第三段第一句“Aristotle, a great thinker and educator, has pointed out that shallow friendship is easily formed but also easily abandoned because such bonds are fragile.(伟大的思想家和教育家亚里士多德指出,肤浅的友谊很容易形成,但也很容易放弃,因为这种联系是脆弱的。)”,第四段第一句“Presence in friendship requires “being with” and “doing for”. (友谊的存在需要“与”和“为”。)”和最后一段“Digital life fills and absorbs waking life time so that people do not join in example case of friendship, like sports, collective arts, free range childhoods, etc. In this way, digital life produces false friendships.(数字生活充满并吸收了清醒的生活时间,因此人们不会加入友谊的例子,如体育、集体艺术、自由放养的童年等。就这样,数字生活产生了虚假的友谊。)”可知,文章对虚拟世界的友谊进行了探讨并产生了结论。故选A。 C Are you interested in students in other countries? 13 Which statement is true according to Dr Berit? 12. C 13. D 14. B 15. These people seem to have more time for deep thought and thus can become more balanced. They also tend to be good listeners and think before they speak, meaning they could become great friends. Finally, introverts are often fantastic observers, as sitting out of the focus can give them more time to watch the behavior of others.(但内向的人并不只是在极端的情况下才会表现出色。 根据最后一段“So, whatever your personality, either introvert or extrovert, there are clear advantages to being either, and if you meet an introvert, you might just end up with an amazing friend.(所以,无论你的性格是内向还是外向,两者都有明显的优势,如果你遇到一个内向的人,你可能最终会交到一个很棒的朋友)”结合文章主要说明了外向者和内向者不同的特点和各自的优势,同时指出疫情封锁对这两种人的影响。 故选A。 Success is so much more than just money or fame. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】I had a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. I wasn’t the same person when I went to get the wood. Soon the fire was blazing. The room became warm and everyone’s spirits were lifted. The kids giggled happily when Pa handed them each a piece of Christmas candy, and Widow Clark looked with a smile that probably hadn’t crossed her face in a long time. With deep gratitude, she said many “God bless you”. Before we left, Pa took each of the kids in his big arms and gave them a hug. They clung to him and didn’t want us to go. I could see that they missed their Pa, and I was glad that I still had mine. On the sled, Pa explained where the money he and Ma had tucked away here and there all year long to buy me a dress for Christmas had gone. It had been spent on the shoes and candy. He hoped that I could understand. Only then did I realize my father had given me a gift much greater than a dress — the best Christmas memory of my life. 词汇激活: 行为类 ①存储,收藏:tuck away/put away/collect ②递:hand/ give 情绪类 ①开心地笑:giggled happily / laughed loudly/ laughed with satisfaction. On the sled, Pa explained where the money he and Ma had tucked away here and there all year long to buy me a dress for Christmas had gone. 首先,主句中包含一个where引导的宾语从句,做explained的宾语;其次,在宾语从句中又包含一个定语从句“he and Ma had tucked away here and there all year long to buy me a dress for Christmas”,先行词是the money. Only then did I realize my father had given me a gift much greater than a dress — the best Christmas memory of my life.
