It landed just before my feet. Surprised, I thought myself fortunate not to get hit by it. The apple was thrown over the wall by a school student. I live opposite a school. A wall separates my apartment building from the school. Thinking it was a one-off experience I told my friends, and we laughed about it. Then, the week after, I was walking along exactly the same spot at exactly the same time and another apple came over! This time it landed on the roof of a shed (棚屋). I thought to myself: “Is it my destiny to get hit by an apple?” Last week I was walking back home. I checked my phone. It was 12:15 pm. My mind wandered to those two times before when I’d seen an apple thrown over the wall. But suddenly, my thoughts were interrupted (打断) by ANOTHER flying apple! This one was a big one. Only one bite (咬) had been taken out of it, and it was thrown with speed. Another dangerous but “lucky” experience! Someone could be really hurt by these apples. Enough was enough. Did the student(s) not realize that people live across the wall? Or do they not care? I told my friend about it. “You should just throw the apple back over the wall. That will teach them,” my friend suggested. But I don’t want to play that “game”. As they say, an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind. Besides, I might end up hurting someone when I throw it back. Maybe I’ll call the school and let them know. The student(s) responsibly need to know that they might end up hurting someone if they keep throwing their waste. What’s more, waste belongs in the bin (垃圾箱), not anywhere else. 11. How did the author (作者) feel after she saw the first thrown apple core? A. Excited. B. Lucky. C. Doubtful. D. touched. 12. What does the underlined word “destiny” mean in Paragraph 4? A. 命运 B. 机遇 C. 福气 D. 象征 13. How many times did the author see an apple thrown over the wall? A. Once. B. Twice. C. Three times. D. Four times. 14. From the underlined sentence in the seventh paragraph, we can learn that __________. A. the author was hit in the eye by the last thrown apple B. the author will set up a camera on the wall C. the author will not react (反应) by doing the same bad thing D. the author will throw the apple back next time 15. What can we infer (推断) from the story? A. The students could see when the author was walking by. B. The apples were thrown by the same student. C. Somebody was once hurt by thrown waste there. D. The school may find out about the problem and set new rules. B During the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, athletes (运动员) from all over the world broke both personal and Olympic records. High-tech elements (元素) have been giving: “wings” to these hard-working athletes, helping them become “faster, higher, stronger”. The National Speed Skating Oval (国家速滑馆) (the Ice Ribbon) saw 12 new Olympic records and one world record, including Chinese speed skater Gao Tingyu’s Olympic record of 34.32 seconds in the men’s 500 meters. Known as “the fastest ice”, the 12,000-square-meter rink (冰场) has received very good feedback from the athletes. “It makes everyone skate faster,” Gao Tingyu said after he bagged the gold. The secret behind is a new carbon dioxide (一氧化碳) ice-making technology. Speed-skating requires a very flat (平滑) ice surface. If the ice surface . temperature doesn’t change much, the ice stays flatter. Flat ice is easier to skate on. Liquid (液态的) carbon dioxide was put under the ice for the first time. It cooled the ice and kept the temperature changes on the surface within just half of one degree. In events like freestyle skiing and ski jumping, the direction and speed of the wind could largely influence athletes’ performance. A research team from the Chinese Academy of Sciences developed a wind measuring (测量) system using AI technology. “Some events only last a few seconds, and the wind is changing all the time. This system allows athletes and coaches to ‘see’ wind accurately (精确地) through real-time data (数据) on their pads, and decide when and where to jump,” the team leader Shao Yun told Beijing Daily. There are many more high-tech elements that boost athletic performance, including drag-reducing (减少阻力的) sportswear, smart beds that massage (按摩) athletes, and robots that cook. All these helped keep China’s promise to hold an “athlete-centered” Olympics, said Zhao Weidong, the spokesperson of the Beijing organizing committee. 16. Gao Tingyu set a Olympic record for ________. A. creating a new ice-making technology B. skating the fastest speed in men’s 500 meters C. being the youngest skater at the Olympics D. designing the National Speed Skating Oval 17. Liquid carbon dioxide was put under the ice to ________. A. keep the ice cold B. make the ice harder C. save water resources D. change the temperature of the ice 18. The system from the Chinese Academy of Sciences helps athletes ________. A. change the direction of the wind B. record their jumps in real time C. measure wind more accurately D. reduce off-site (场外的) influence factors 19. What do we know from the words of Zhao Weidong? A. China is expected to hold another Winter Olympics soon. B. Other countries look at China with new eyes. C. The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics were the best ever. D. The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics were people-centered. 20. What does this passage mainly tell us? A. Chinese athletes created excellent results with the help of high technology. B. The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics were highly praised because of the careful organization. C Artificial intelligence (人工智能) has slowly become a part of our everyday lives. One of the biggest uses for AI is facial recognition (FR). Subway stations in Zhengzhou, Henan province use FR technology. Passengers can link their phones to the subway’s smartphone app. FR technology can greatly speed up security checks. Yuan Xiaoqin, a park manager in Hangzhou, told China Central Television the reason the park upgraded (升级) its entry system: “Facial recognition can help a visitor enter the park in two or three seconds. Fingerprint information sometimes isn’t sensitive (灵敏的), especially in cases of injury or when the fingers are too dry to enable recognition.” Before, the park used a fingerprint entry (进入) system. However, some people are worried about the security risks that FR can bring. According to China Daily, many people feel uncomfortable using facial recognition. They worry that their information could be stolen. A face-swapping (换脸) app called Zao allowed users to imitate (模仿) famous persons through the use of facial recognition. Users worried that the app was collecting a large amount of personal information. Sometimes people can refuse to use some apps if they don’t want to put their personal information at risk, but sometimes people don’t have a choice. Zhao Zhanling, a legal researcher at the China University of Political Science and Law, said growing worries over facial recognition are understandable. Once information is stolen, it’s hard to take effective measures to stop it. There is no law in China to regulate (规范) the use and collection of facial information, Zhao said, adding that companies and local governments should be careful and prevent abuse (滥用) of the technology. 21. What’s the meaning of the underlined phase “security checks” in Paragraph 3? A. 安检 B. 购票 C. 服务 D. 智能 22. What does the third paragraph mainly tell us? A. B There is no law in China to regulate the use and collection of facial information. C. Growing worries over facial recognition are understandable. D. Companies and local governments should prevent abuse of the technology, 25. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage? A. Doing housework has taught me the importance of responsibility and time management. It has also improved my life skills, making me more independent. Moreover, sharing housework with family members fosters a sense of teamwork. I encourage all students to actively participate in household chores. Not only does it help in personal growth, but it also contributes to a harmonious family environment.  第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
