The latest additions to its World Heritage(遗产)list. The following are some of the recent additions.
Churches of the Pskov School of Architecture((Russia))
The structures, many of which are churches, were all designed by the Pskov School of Architecture. It was a leading school of building design in the country, especially in the 15th and 16th centuries. Some elements common to Pskov architecture date back to the 11th century.
Babylon(Iraq)
The ancient city of Babylon is gaining World Heritage Site status. The city was once a main tourist site before Iraq suffered several wars. The 4, 300yearold city is where dynasties have risen and fallen since the earliest days of settled human civilization. UNESCO says the site “offers a look into one of the most influential empires of the ancient world”.
Writingonstone(Canada)
Canada Writingonstone monument has a large number of protected rock paintings and rock carvings. Some of them are 2,000 years old. The markings were left by Blackfoot Native Americans, who lived in parts of Western Canada and the far northern United States. The land that makes up WritingonStone is filled with rock posts that have been formed into “spectacular shapes” by erosion(侵蚀).
Party and Ilha Grande(Brazil)
The historic coastal town of Party and the island Ilha Grande are already popular places for visitors to Brazils Rio de Janeiro state. Party was the final stop along the Gold Route, along which gold was shipped to Europe in the 1600s. The area is also home to a huge number of animals, some of which are in danger now.

由第二段“The structures, many of which are churches, were all designed by the Pskov School of Architecture”可知这种结构,尤其是很多教堂的结构,都是由Pskov建筑学校设计的。从“It was a leading school of building design in the country”可知Pskov建筑学校在这个国家处于领头位置。 故选A。
由第四段“Canada Writingonstone monument has a large number of protected rock paintings and rock carvings”可知加拿大的石上书纪念碑有大量被保护的石画和石刻;由“The markings were left by Blackfoot Native Americans, who lived in parts of Western Canada and the far northern United States”可知这些标记都是居住在加拿大东部和美国北边的Blackfoot本族人留下的。
由最后一段“The historic coastal town of Party and the island Ilha Grande are already popular places for visitors”可知Party镇和Ilha Grande岛屿上历史悠久的海岸已经成为旅游者的向往之地。

Measuring about 13,170 miles long, the Great Wall of China is no doubt the longest manmade project on earth. It was once widely believed that it could be seen from space. Some media even reported with affected seriousness, “The biggest building the astronauts could see from space is the wall, which looks very much like a black worm.” Consequently, this statement has gone deep into people's minds and become an honor that Chinese people have enjoyed for years.
Is the Great Wall truly visible from space? Yang Liwei, China's first astronaut who was lifted into outer space by the spacecraft ShenzhouⅤ, gave a definite answer “No.” Yang's negative response may probably put out a fair number of people's passion. But it powerfully corrected the misconception. The wall is indeed majestic , but you won't see it from space!
In fact, Neil Alden Armstrong, the American astronaut who first set foot on the moon in 1969, was asked many times whether or not he had seen the Great Wall from the moon. Recently from a sound recording announced by NASA Johnson Space Center, Armstrong said that he had seen the continents, lakes and blue spots touched with red. But he could not make out any manmade objects on earth from the moon.
The Great Wall is narrow and irregular. In space, something irregular is hard to observe. Measuring about 10 metres wide on average, it easily merges (融入) into the surrounding environment. With solely the naked eye, it is totally invisible at a height of 196,850 feet. To watch the wall on the moon is like seeking for a single hair from about 2,688 metres away. To say an astronaut can see it from space is obviously not true.
However, some people introduced an idea to make the Great Wall visible from space. If we install bright spotlights on the wall, astronauts will see the lights at night. But this suggestion has not been carried out by scientific experiments.
4.Which is right about the saying “the Great Wall can be seen from space”?
A.News media cast doubt on the saying.
B.There was much evidence for the saying.
C.Astronauts played a trick on Chinese people.
D.The Chinese had belief in the saying for long.
5.What does the underlined word “majestic” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Second to none. B.Farreaching.
C.Grand. D.Visible.
6.As Armstrong once said, what did he see from the moon?
A.The Great Wall. B.Bright spotlights.
C.Places painted blue. D.Large area of land.
7.How does the author prove a point in Paragraph 4?
A.By listing figures. B.By giving examples.
C.By classifying facts. D.By drawing conclusions.
根据第一段最后一句“Consequently, this statement has gone deep into people's minds and become an honor that Chinese people have enjoyed for years.” 由第一段中的“Some media even reported with affected seriousness, ‘The biggest building the astronauts could see from space is the wall, which looks very much like a black worm.’”
故选A。
Ⅱ.七选五
On a warm spring morning in 1984, Dong Yaohui and his two young friends pulled on backpacks and set out on a hike of the Great Wall. Their walk began in Shanhai Pass. 1 By sunset, they took shelter in ancient towers where soldiers once stood guard, perhaps watching for invaders from the north.
The walk of 17 months and 8,850 kilometers tested persistence. 2 The trip would not only change their lives but the fortunes of the wall itself, helping preserve it and lift it to the status it holds today.
On completing their journey, they published their experiences in a book. As they shared their adventures, it became clear that it was not just the physical demands but also the emotional impact that left lasting impressions.
3 Since then, China has made a number of measures to protect the attraction. In 2006, for instance, the State Council issued the Regulation on the Protection of Great Wall to strengthen laws concerning its preservation and regulate activities on the structure.
The Cultural Relics Administrative Department has been given control over the overall protection of the Great wall. 4
Dong places his hands on the weathered wall, as he did 35 years ago. But today, he thinks more deeply on a mission grander than his own journey. “Someone dug up some earth, making it into a brick,” he says. “Someone else brought it all the way up the mountain and built a wall. Then many people guarded the wall for hundreds of years. The Great Wall is definitely alive. 5 ”
A.It isn't just a cold, stone wall.
B.Preservation requires the efforts of all society.
C.From there they went forward to the vast west.
D.It wound its way and reached into the Bohai Sea.
E.It made them the first ever to walk the whole length.
F.Meanwhile, local villagers have recently been hired to act as guardians.
G.Preservation work began when the Great Wall was listed as a World Heritage Site.
1.C 根据上文提示“Their walk began in Shanhai Pass.(他们从山海关出发。)”,再根据下文提示“By sunset, they took shelter in ancient towers where soldiers once stood guard, perhaps watching for invaders from the north(日落时分,他们躲在古塔里,那里曾经有士兵站岗,也许是为了防备来自北方的入侵者)”可知,选项说明他们行动的路线和方向。所以C项“From there they went forward to the vast west.(他们从那里向广阔的西部前进。)”
2.E 根据上文提示“The walk of 17 months and 8,850 kilometers tested persistence.(长达17个月、8 850公里的行走考验了他们的耐力。)” 所以E项“It made them the first ever to walk the whole length.(这使他们成为第一个走完全程的人。)”
3.G 根据下文提示“Since then, China has made a number of measures to protect the attraction.(从那时起,中国采取了一系列措施来保护这一景点。)” 所以G项“Preservation work began when the Great Wall was listed as a World Heritage Site.(长城被列为世界文化遗产后,保护工作就开始了。)”符合上下文连贯,下文中的then,指的是该项中的“when the Great Wall was listed as a World Heritage Site”。故选G。
4.F 根据上文提示“The Cultural Relics Administrative Department has been given control over the overall protection of the Great wall.(长城的整体保护工作由文物行政管理部门负责。)” 所以F项“Meanwhile, local villagers have recently been hired to act as guardians.(与此同时,当地村民最近被雇佣为监护人。)”
5.A 根据上文提示“Someone else brought it all the way up the mountain and built a wall. Then many people guarded the wall for hundreds of years. The Great Wall is definitely alive.(另一个人把土带到了山上,建了一堵墙。 然后许多人守卫了几百年的长城。长城绝对是活的)”可知,选项承接上文说明长城不只是一堵墙。所以A项“It isn't just a cold, stone wall.(它不仅仅是一堵冰冷的石墙。)” 故选A。
