People with a growth mindset (思维模式) believe that intelligence (智力) and skills can be developed through hard work. Basically, they believe that anyone can develop their abilities in anything. The opposition (对立面) of the growth mindset is the fixed mindset. People with a fixed mindset believe that intelligence and skills are innate—they are the things that people are born with and there is no room for change.
A lot of researches suggest that people with a growth mindset seem to be more successful than people with a fixed mindset. For example, a study found that students with a growth mindset were three times more likely to score in the top 20% on the test, while students with a fixed mindset were four times more likely to score in the bottom 20%.
People with a growth mindset are much more resilient (有适应力的). Because they think about learning first over failure and they aren’t afraid to take risks. However, people with a fixed mindset don’t want to challenge themselves because failure usually only means failure to them.
