As a student, I was afraid to answer questions in class, and I found that the students around were just like me. At the beginning of each class, when the teacher asked a question, I always lowered my head because I was afraid of the teacher.
One day, in a foreign language class, Mr. Black gave us a lesson. He wanted us to be active in class. So he asked us some questions, but no one answered.“ Let me tell you a story first,” he said.“ When I came to the United States to study, the university often invited famous people to make speeches, Before the beginning of every speech,I found an interesting thing. The students around me always took a cardboard folded(折叠的纸板) in half, wrote their names with the most eye- catching color, and then placed the cardboard on the seat. So when the speaker needed the answers from the students, he could see and call a listener's name directly.”
“I couldn't understand that. My classmate told me the speakers were all top people, who meant chances. When your answer was to his surprise, it meant he might give you more chances. In fact,I really saw a few students get great chances because of that.”
After listening to the story,I understand that the chance will not find you itself. You must show yourself all the time so that you can find a chance on the card.

Chemistry is usually thought to be more difficult than other subjects, at least for the beginners. There are some reasons for this idea. For one thing, chemistry has a very specialized(专业的) vocabulary. At first, studying chemistry is like learning a new language. Also, some concepts(概念) of chemistry are hard to understand. However, with hard work and careful study, you can finish this subject successfully—and even enjoy it. Here are some suggestions to help you develop good study habits and better understand the topics in the textbook.
Firstly, attend classes on time, Listen to your teacher and take careful notes in class. If possible, always review the topics you learn in class, and review your notes on the same day.
Secondly, think carefully whether you really understand the meaning of a formula(分子式) or the use of an equation(方程式). A good way to test your understanding is to explain a concept to a classmate or someone else.
Thirdly, pay attention to things which have something to do with chemistry in life. Watch or do experiments(实验) in class carefully.
Fourthly, question often and do not be afraid to ask your teacher or classmates for help.
You will find that chemistry is much more than numbers, formulas and equations. It's often used in daily life just like math and physics. Once you fall in love with it, you' ll get lots of fun.
( )9. The writer gives reason(s) why chemistry is thought to be more difficult.
A. one B. two C. three D. four
( )10. You can test whether you understand the formula Fe3O4 by .
A. writing it in your notebook B. finding it in the chemistry textbook
C. reading it time and time again D. explaining it to somebody else
( )11. What suggestion is NOT mentioned about learning chemistry?
A. Take classes seriously. B. Do experiments carefully.
C. Ask questions often. D. Take down every word of the teacher.
( )12. How is the text organized? (①= Paragraph 1,②= Paragraph 2,…)
Each of us has dreams and goals(目标) for our future. What makes us study and make progress each day is closely connected with our personal dream and goal.
But why do you have dreams and goals, you still end up with nothing? What separates(区分) successful people from dreamers is their persistent(锲而不舍的) action. When you learn your lessons at school, you must work hard and not give up. You will often find some of your lessons very hard. Try and keep trying. And you' ll be sure to successfully deal with any difficulty you meet with. If we have a hard lesson today, let us try our best to learn it well and then we shall be prepared for a harder one tomorrow.
This is the famous formula for success:
Dream→Believe→Achieve
Most people have what they want ( Dream) and think they can realize their dreams( Believe). And then they do nothing. They just imagine their dreams can come true. When they get tired of waiting and lose a lot, they say angrily how terrible their life is.
I personally believe that if you really want to achieve your dreams and goals in life, you have to add one thing to your success formula:
Dream→Believe→Act→Achieve
For me, act is the most important thing for success and that's to take persistent action( Act). If you say“I can't do it” and give up, you can never do anything valuable(有价值的). However,“I' ll try” creates wonders. Let's remember that there will be obstacles in our life. We must face them bravely and solve them. Success is not something that falls from the sky. Most successful people made their dreams come true because of their persistent action.
Please remember: action is the bridge that connects our dreams and goals to reality.
( )13. What do you need to do when you find your lessons very hard?
A. To ask other people for help. B. To try my best to learn them well.
C. To keep trying another one. D. To get ready for a harder one.
( )14. Which does the writer add to the famous formula?
A. Act. B. Achieve. C. Connect. D. Create.
( )15. What does the underlined word“ obstacles” probably mean in the passage?
A. Dangers. B. Mistakes. C. Secrets. D. Problems.
( )16. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A. Keeping on doing something valuable
B. Studying hard and making great progress
C. Realizing dreams with persistent action
D. Separating successful people from dreams

19. There is no right way or a set of skills we must have. But there are some abilities I think we should develop to improve our creative thinking. For example, we need to care about others, which works hand in hand with creative thinking. Being able to feel the situation of a meeting or a group can help greatly. What's more, we should have an open mind. This means we need to encourage ourselves to look at a problem in a new way.
The world continues to change, so creative thinking is of great importance.20.
We can develop it by starting asking more important questions:“Why?” and“ Why not?” So long as we have the patience to learn and develop ourselves, we can also be creative people!

Many students are looking for ways to improve their understanding of something that they’ve learned. Some get used to discussing it with classmates while others try to do plenty of exercises by themselves. Only when meeting difficulties will they turn to teachers for help.
So, are there better ways? Sure. One way is to try teaching not as a job, but as a way to improve your own learning.
In the 1980s, Jean- Pol Martin,a French teacher, developed the “Learning by Teaching (LBT)” method. It's a way of teaching that asks students to teach each other. The study shows that when students actually teach the content(内容) of a lesson, they will develop a deeper understanding of the material, because they have to remember the knowledge they' ve learned before teaching. This way may improve your learning by teaching.
The other way might be to teach your family or friends around you. Try to make your lessons simple and clear. After teaching, record what they don't understand. The process helps you realize what you need to improve and what is the best you've done. Then, you' ll have a direction in learning.
Another idea is to join a group. When a teacher arranges(安排) a task to every group, like making sentences with new words, you can teach your partners how to use these words when you finish. It's believed that your ability will get improved a lot in this way.
Also, creating a simple scene, just like a show, is also a good way. Because you completely know every step, when you tell others how to do it, your ability gets improved again.
Thus, teaching means learning. So, why not give teaching a try?
