It is known that when you are in your thirties, you will begin to lose muscle mass. This loss actually contributes to achy joints, the increased risk of injury, and the “middle-age spread” we all fear. What’s more, the older you get, the faster muscle mass loses. It means that eventually, simple tasks like getting out of a chair and climbing stairs can become more difficult. Strength training can help you build muscles, make you strong, increase your staying power and make everyday activities easier. By combining strength and power training exercises, you’ll not only get stronger, but also improve your reaction speed. As you grow older, that’s critical because it can help prevent falls. Here is a book, Strength and Power Training for All Ages, for your reference. Common sense about fitness in the book: ·The key muscles to work for an injury-free body ·How to tell how much weight is suitable for you ·How to strengthen the bones most likely to break ·How to take pressure off your knees when walking or running ·Why you’ll want to apply heat to sore joints before you exercise Four total body workouts in the book: ·Build bones ·Fight diseases ·Improve balance ·Strengthen muscles &Increase muscle power Get a copy, start training, and then you’ll discover a whole new self. 1. What will happen as people age according to paragraph 1? A. They will need less exercise. B. They will improve reaction speed. C. They will experience muscle loss. D. They will have better staying power. 2. What does Strength and Power Training for All Ages mainly teach people to do? A. Train their brains. B. Build a sound body. C. Treat bone diseases. D. Cut down their weight. 3. What is the text? A A notice. B. An oral folktale. C. A scientific paper. D. An advertisement. C 2. B 3. 由文章第一段中“It is known that when you are in your thirties, you will begin to lose muscle mass. This loss actually contributes to achy joints, the increased risk of injury, and the “middle-age spread” we all fear. What’s more, the older you get, the faster muscle mass loses. (众所周知,当你在30多岁的时候,你会开始失去肌肉。这种损失实际上会导致关节疼痛,受伤的风险增加,以及我们都害怕的“中年传播”。更重要的是,你年纪越大,肌肉流失得越快。)”可知,随着年龄的增长,人们将经历肌肉损失。故选C。 【2题详解】 细节理解题。由文章第二段中“Strength training can help you build muscles, make you strong, increase your staying power and make everyday activities easier. By combining strength and power training exercises, you’ll not only get stronger, but also improve your reaction speed. As you grow older, that’s critical because it can help prevent falls. Here is a book, Strength and Power Training for All Ages , for your reference. (力量训练可以帮助你锻炼肌肉,使你强壮,增加你的耐力,使日常活动更容易。通过结合力量和力量训练,你不仅会变得更强壮,还会提高你的反应速度。随着年龄的增长,这是至关重要的,因为它可以帮助防止跌倒。这里有一本书,《所有年龄段的力量和力量训练》,供你参考。)”可知,《所有年龄段的力量和力量训练》主要教人们建立一个健全的身体。故选B。 【3题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文可知,本文主要介绍了力量锻炼和《所有年龄段的力量和力量训练》这本书对力量锻炼的好处,结合文章最后一段“Get a copy, start training, and then you’ll discover a whole new self. (买一本,开始训练,然后你会发现一个全新的自己)”推知,本文是一则宣传书的广告。故选D。 B I used to believe that only words could catch the essence of the human soul. The literary works contained such distinct stories that they shaped the way we saw the world. Words were what composed the questions we sought to uncover and the answers to those questions themselves. Words were everything. That belief changed. In an ordinary math class, my teacher posed a simple question: What’s 0.99 rounded to the nearest whole number? Easy. When rounded to the nearest whole number, 0.99=1. Somehow, I thought even though 0.99 is only 0.01 away from 1, there’s still a 0.01 difference. That means even if two things are only a little different, they are still different, so doesn’t that make them completely different? My teacher answered my question by presenting another equation (等式): 1= 0.9, which could also be expressed as 1=0.99999.... repeating itself without ever ending. There was something mysterious but fascinating about the equation. The left side was unchangeable, objective: it contained a number that ended. On the right was something endless, number repeating itself limitless times. Yet, somehow, these two opposed things were connected by an equal sign. Lying in bed, I thought about how much the equation paralleled our existence. The left side of the equation represents that sometimes life itself is so unchangeable and so clear. The concrete, whole number of the day when you were born and the day when you would die. But then there is that gap in between life and death. The right side means a time and space full of limitless possibilities, and endless opportunities into the open future. So that’s what life is. Objective but imaginative. Unchangeable but limitless. Life is an equation with two sides that balances itself out. Still, we can’t ever truly seem to put the perfect words to it. So possibly numbers can express ideas as eually well as words can. For now, let’s leave it at that: 1= 0.99999... and live a life like it. 4. What does the author emphasize about words in paragraph 1? A. Their wide variety. B. Their literary origins. C. Their distinct sounds. D. Their expressive power. 5. What made the author find the equation fascinating? A. The repetition of a number. B. The way two different numbers are equal. C. The question the teacher raised. D. The difference between the two numbers. 6. Which of the fllowing can replace the underlined word “paralleled” in paragraph 6? A. Measured. B. Composed. C. Mirrored. D. Influenced. 7. What is a suitable title for the text? A. The Perfect Equation B. Numbers Build Equations C. An Attractive Question D. Words Outperform Numbers 【答案】4. D 5. B 6. C 7. 根据第一段“I used to believe that only words could catch the essence of the human soul. The literary works contained such distinct stories that they shaped the way we saw the world. Words were what composed the questions we sought to uncover and the answers to those questions themselves.(我曾经相信,只有语言才能捕捉到人类灵魂的本质。文学作品包含了如此独特的故事,它们塑造了我们看待世界的方式。文字构成了我们试图揭示的问题,以及这些问题本身的答案)”可推知,在第一段作者主要强调了语言的表达力量,故选D。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段“There was something mysterious but fascinating about the equation. The left side was unchangeable, objective: it contained a number that ended. On the right was something endless, number repeating itself limitless times. Yet, somehow, these two opposed things were connected by an equal sign.(这个方程式神秘而迷人。左边是不变的、客观的:里面有一个没有尽头的数字。右边是无穷无尽的东西,数字无限重复。然而,不知怎么的,这两个相反的东西被一个等号连接起来了)”可知,作者觉得这个等式很迷人,因为数字虽然不同,但是却被等号连接起来了。由此推知,让作者觉得这个等式迷人的是两个不同的数相等的方式。故选B。 【6题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线词下文“The left side of the equation represents that sometimes life itself is so unchangeable and so clear. The concrete, whole number of the day when you were born and the day when you would die. But then there is that gap in between life and death.(等式的左边表示有时候生命本身是如此的不可改变,如此的清晰。你出生的日期和你死亡的日期的具体整数。但是生与死之间有一段距离)”可知,作者躺在床上思考的是这个等式与我们的存在是多么相似,划线词paralleled的意思是“与……十分相似”,和mirrored意思相近,故选C。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第四段“My teacher answered my question by presenting another equation (等式): 1= 0.9, which could also be expressed as 1=0.99999.... repeating itself without ever ending.(我的老师给出了另一个等式:1= 0.9,也可以表示为1=0.99999……不断重复,没有尽头)”和第五段“There was something mysterious but fascinating about the equation. The left side was unchangeable, objective: it contained a number that ended. On the right was something endless, number repeating itself limitless times. Yet, somehow, these two opposed things were connected by an equal sign.(这个等式神秘而迷人。左边是不变的、客观的:里面有一个没有尽头的数字。右边是无穷无尽的东西,数字无限重复。然而,不知怎么的,这两个相反的东西被一个等号连接起来了)”可知,本文主要讲的是作者在数学课上学了一个等式后的一些感悟。由此可知,最恰当的标题是A选项“The Perfect Equation(完美的等式)”。故选A。 C Most people suffer from “just-me-ism”. What is that? Well, say you leave the tap running while brushing your teeth, or you drop a piece of litter and can ’t be bothered to pick it up. You know all those things are wrong, but so what? “What difference can it possibly make?” you say to yourself. “There are millions of people in the world and I’m just me.” But just think of all the millions of people saying to themselves, “It doesn’t matter, it’s just me.” Millions of gallons of water would be wasted; millions of pieces of litter would be dropped. And all of this would be very harmful. To inspire young people to take action for the environment, animals and their community, Roots & Shoots was established in the early 1990s by Dr. Jane Goodall, a world’s well-known environmental scientist. Besides her research, she has been whole-heartedly committed to environmental protection. The organisation is called Roots & Shoots because roots move slowly under the ground to make a firm foundation, and shoots seem small and weak, but they can break open brick walls to reach the light. The roots and shoots are you, your friends and young people all around the world. Hundreds and thousands of roots and shoots can solve the problems, change the world and make it a better place to live in. Do you think you help to make the world a better place when you make a sad person smile, when you make a dog wag its tail, and when you water a thirsty plant? One cheered-up person, one happy dog, one flowering plant, and you. That’s what Roots & Shoots is all about. Dr.Jane Goodall believes that the most important thing is that every individual matters. You get to choose: Do you want to make the world a better place? Do you want to make Roots & Shoots rooted in everyone’s heart? Do you want to be part of a community for a shared future? You cannot be absent. 8. What is the first paragraph mainly about? A. The reasons for “just-me-ism”. B. The negative effects of “just-me-ism”. C. The definition of “just-me-ism”. D. The sufferings of people with “just-me-ism”. 9 How does Roots & Shoots help protect the environment? A. By appealing for experts’ devotion. B. By explaining the origin of the organization. C. By enhancing young people’s academic skills. D. By motivating the youth to make a difference. 10. Why does the author give the examples in the last paragraph? A To illustrate the value of each individual. B. To demonstrate the significance of teamwork. C. To make a comment about some acts of kindness. D. To inspire young people to reflect on wrongdoings. 11. What does the author suggest people do? A. Join Roots & Shoots. B. Break open walls. C. Resolve world issues. D. Pull their own weight. B 9. D 10. A 11. 根据第一段中“But just think of all the millions of people saying to themselves, “It doesn’t matter, it’s just me.” Millions of gallons of water would be wasted; millions of pieces of litter would be dropped. And all of this would be very harmful.”(但想想那些成千上万的人对自己说:“没关系,只有我这样。” 根据第二段“To inspire young people to take action for the environment, animals and their community, Roots & Shoots was established in the early 1990s by Dr. Jane Goodall, a world’s well-known environmental scientist. Besides her research, she has been whole-heartedly committed to environmental protection.”(为了激励年轻人为环境、动物和他们的社区采取行动,Roots & Shoots组织由世界知名环境科学家简·古道尔博士于20世纪90年代初创立。 根据最后一段中“One cheered-up person, one happy dog, one flowering plant, and you. That’s what Roots & Shoots is all about. Dr.Jane Goodall believes that the most important thing is that every individual matters.”(一个快乐的人,一只快乐的狗,一株开花的植物,还有你。 故选A项。 根据最后一段中“You get to choose: Do you want to make the world a better place? Do you want to make Roots & Shoots rooted in everyone’s heart? Do you want to be part of a community for a shared future? You cannot be absent.”(你可以选择:你想让世界变得更美好吗?你想让Roots & Shoots在每个人心中扎根吗?你想成为命运共同体的一份子吗?你不能缺席。)可推知,作者建议人们加入Roots & Shoots。故选A项。 D A robotic game of cat and mouse playing out in a lab provides a sight at future possibilities of robots carrying out search-and-rescue missions without much human guidance. The Tianjicat robot developed by researchers at Tsinghua University in China uses a brain-inspired computing chip called TianjicX. The so-called neuromorphic chip (神经形态芯片) can run multiple artificial intelligence techniques at the same time in an energy-efficient manner. It is one example of experiments with neuromorphic systems that could allow small robots to make decisions using limited computing resources and power. The researchers challenged the Tianjicat robot to chase (追逐) another robot that was set to move randomly in a room filled with obstacles. This required Tianjicat to track the mouse robot by using both visual recognition and sound detection, and to figure out the best path to chase down its pretend prey (假想猎物) without knocking on anything. The team says that the TianjicX chip reduced the amount of power required for the robot cat to make decisions during the chase by about. half compared with an NVIDIA chip designed for AI computing. Performing a cat-and-mouse chase would be a step up in difficulty for most commercialized robots, which usually follow very predictable routines in warehouses or factories. Many robots that interact with more complex and unpredictable environments rely on remote control by human operators, or else must maintain wireless connections with distant data centres that have the computing power necessary for more intensive decision-making. Neuromorphic systems haven’t yet been commercialized in a big way, but their relatively low size, weight and power requirements could provide practical advantages or robotic deployment (部署). The Tianjicat robot is worldwide acknowledged. “For robotics, this is very important because it allows the system to operate for longer durations in hard-to-reach environments with greater autonomy,” says Jeffrey Krichmar at the University of California, Irvine. 12. What do the researchers want the robot to do by testing it? A. Do rescue-work. B. Assist in research. C. Help get rid of rats. D. Save power. 13. What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us? A. Why the robot chases another robot. B. What the robot’s pretend prey is like. C. How researchers test the robot. D. How much power the robot uses in an action. 14. What makes a TianJicat robot have advantages over others? A. Its small size. B. Its mouse-like shape. C. Its business value. D. Its date center. 15. What’s Jeffrey Krichmar’s attitude towards the invention of the Tianjicat robot? A. Negative. B. Doubtful. C. Unconcerned. D. Favorable. A 13. C 14. A 15. 根据文章第一段“A robotic game of cat and mouse playing out in a lab provides a sight at future possibilities of robots carrying out search-and-rescue missions without much human guidance(一场在实验室里上演的猫捉老鼠的机器人游戏让我们看到了未来机器人在没有人类指导的情况下执行搜救任务的可能性)”可知,研究人员希望通过测试来让机器人执行搜救任务。故选A。 根据文章第三段“The researchers challenged the Tianjicat robot to chase (追逐) another robot that was set to move randomly in a room filled with obstacles(研究人员让Tianjicat机器人去追赶另一个机器人,这个机器人被设定在一个充满障碍物的房间里随机移动)”可知,第三段主要在介绍研究人员如何测试机器人的。 根据文章第四段“Neuromorphic systems haven’t yet been commercialized in a big way, but their relatively low size, weight and power requirements could provide practical advantages or robotic deployment(神经形态系统还没有大规模商业化,但它们相对较小的尺寸、重量和功率要求可以提供实际优势或用于机器人调动)”可知,该机器人较小的体型是其优势。故选A。 根据文章最后一段“For robotics, this is very important because it allows the system to operate for longer durations in hard-to-reach environments with greater autonomy(对于机器人来说,这非常重要,因为它允许系统在难以到达的环境中运行更长的时间,具有更大的自主权)”可知,Jeffrey Krichmar对此机器人持支持的态度。 Time is a valuable resource, especially for those who need to deal with academic demands, personal growth, and social activities at the same time. He jumped into the car with his parents and headed off to the Olympic-sized pool for the big swim meet. When his race came up, Mike was confident. He was strong and swift. Mike climbed out the pool, smiling. He had just won first place, making him the fastest boy in his age group. “Congratulations, son,” his father said. His mom gave him a hug, even though he was soaking wet. A week later, it was time for another swim meet. Like before, Mike decided to enjoy his favorite ice cream flavor. Mike remembered that the last time he had won a race, he also ate mint chocolate chip ice cream first. Maybe he’d win again. He’s taken first place again in his race. Mike was feeling pretty good. As it turned out, Mike decided to have some mint chocolate chip ice cream before every one of the next few swim meets. He began to think of it as his lucky charm. After several months of placing in the top positions of every race he swam, Mike was feeling unbeatable. And he wouldn’t admit it, but all that ice cream was adding a few pounds to his athletic swimmer’s build. It didn’t take long after that for Mike to start coming in second place – and then third – and then last place in his races. The lucky mint chocolate chip ice cream had lost its magic. On the day of his next swim meet, his mother sat down at the table with him. “Mike, we all love ice cream, but it’s not healthy for your body to eat so much of it. Maybe it’s time to quit the sweet treats for a while, especially before you go swimming.”” Mike unwillingly agreed. He went to the swim meet, and didn’t perform well. His father offered to go running with him a few days a week to help him feel better and strengthen his muscles. The extra weight soon disappeared, and Mike found himself breathing easier at swim practices. Paragraph 1: As he dove into the water, he kicked his legs and stretched his arms as far as he could. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: His jaw dropped as he realized he had beaten his own best time, and everyone else too. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 As he dove into the water, he kicked his legs and stretched his arms as far as he could. It struck endless energy and motivation into his body. His teeth clenched and his eyes fixed on the finish line forward. Suddenly, two figures whizzed past, which startled him. Just then, he thought of his sweat and his father’s encouraging smile.Gradually, his worry gave way to his confidence and the last 5 minutes saw him dash to the finish line, followed by the end of the race. His jaw dropped as he realized he had beaten his own best time, and everyone else too.The flowers in his heart were already in bloom. His parents came up and gave him a high five, grinning from ear to ear. “Hey, why not try your favorite ice cream and celebrate!” said his father, patting him on the shoulder. “Thanks, Dad, but I have given up the ice cream. It’s not such a lucky charm at all.” His eyes shone with wisdom. A. A notice. B. An oral folktale. C. A scientific paper. D. An advertisement. B I used to believe that only words could catch the essence of the human soul. A Their wide variety. Words Outperform Numbers C Most people suffer from “just-me-ism”. What does the author suggest people do? A. Join Roots & Shoots. B. Break open walls. C. Resolve world issues. D. Pull their own weight. D A robotic game of cat and mouse playing out in a lab provides a sight at future possibilities of robots carrying out search-and-rescue missions without much human guidance. 12 What do the researchers want the robot to do by testing it? A. Do rescue-work. B. Assist in research. C. Help get rid of rats. D. Save power. 13. What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us? A. Why the robot chases another robot. B. What the robot’s pretend prey is like. C. How researchers test the robot. D. How much power the robot uses in an action. 14. What makes a TianJicat robot have advantages over others? A. Its small size. B. Its mouse-like shape. C. Its business value. D. Its date center. 15. What’s Jeffrey Krichmar’s attitude towards the invention of the Tianjicat robot? A. Negative. B. Doubtful. C. Unconcerned. D. Favorable. Time is a valuable resource, especially for those who need to deal with academic demands, personal growth, and social activities at the same time. It was almost time to leave. He went to the swim meet and didn’t perform well. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
