Studying is usually not a happy task, especially when there are so many things you can do for fun. The balance between work and play is a lifelong matter. Are you feeling tired and bored when you study? What should you do if you’re not interested in study? Here are ways you could do to deal with the problem.
Change your thoughts. If you’re lack of passion(缺乏热情)for study, just think about your future. Only good grades can give you a chance to achieve your dreams. Good grades will help you get into your dream high school and college. No matter how old you are, you’re always growing and learning.
Work hard to achieve your dreams. Study is teaching you an important lesson—You must work for what you want to achieve. Winning a game, passing a test, doing something difficult. These are all rewarding(值得的)experiences because of the time you spent and the effort you made. The harder you work, the happier you’ll be.
Relax yourself at times. You don’t need to study as often as you think you should do. I am not telling you not to study—You still should, but you can try studying less if it doesn’t influence your grades.
Find your favorite subjects. Discover your interests and develop them carefully. Keep studying and stay healthy.

Many Chinese people will wonder what presents to get for their mums on Mother’s Day, but not many know Mother’s Day is in fact a festival from the west. Mother’s Day first began in America during the early 20th century. The festival came to China as early as in the 1980s and was widely accepted.
Why did a foreign festival become popular in China? In fact, Chinese traditional culture has always encouraged filial devotion (孝顺) to parents.
One of the examples is the story of Taste Liquid Medicine for Mother (《亲尝汤药》). It tells us the filial virtue (美德) of Emperor Wen of the Western Han Dynasty. His mother had been ill for three years. He often stayed up by her bedside and looked after her day and night. He tasted the liquid medicine first before she drank it. Also, mother’s love is an eternal (永恒的) subject in Chinese ancient poems, like Song of the Parting Son by Meng Jiao, a poet of the Tang Dynasty.
Now poems like these are still a must-read in school textbooks. Children in China are brought up with the education of filial devotion. On special days, people often use the rose or the forget-me-not (勿忘我) to show love. The carnation (康乃馨) is seen as the perfect flower for mothers around the world, but few know that China has its own flower for mothers —the tiger lily.
We can have different ways to show our love for mothers. What matters most is love, not the festival itself.
9.What do we know about Mother’s Day from the first paragraph?

B.People all over the world celebrate it.
C.It first came to China during the early 20th century.
D.People usually buy flowers for mothers on that day.

C.To help people know more about Mother’s Day.
D.To compare different traditions on Mother’s Day.
11.Which of the following is TRUE?
A.Children in China are asked to buy flowers for their mothers.
B.Sending flowers is the best way to show love to mothers.
C.Chinese prefer the tiger lily to the carnation.
D.The education of filial devotion is very important in China.
12.On Mother’s Day ________ is the most important.
A.preparing presents
B.celebrating the festival
C.understanding the love from mothers
D.showing our love to our mothers

In 1998, Wang Chengbang retired(退休)from the army. Instead of enjoying a relaxing life, he volunteered to save the soil from desertification(沙漠化)by planting trees in Korla(库尔勒), Xinjiang.
It is not an easy job. The high temperature in Korla makes it difficult for anyone to work day after day in the sunshine. Besides, lacking of water is a big problem. Actually, Wang Chengbang’s work in the first few years failed as very few trees survived(存活).
But Wang Chengbang would not give up. “After trying many different ways, I have learned how to grow young trees in a better way,” said Wang Chengbang. He also worked out new ways to save water. With his hard work, more and more trees have survived. So far, he has planted more than 1.5 million trees. Those green trees prevent desertification, make the air cleaner and protect people from the hot sun. Now, Korla is a model city in environmental protection.
Wang Chengbang is also successful in fighting cancer(癌症). In 2005, he had cancer and was told that he had only six months to live. However, he continued taking care of his trees instead of lying on the hospital bed. “Working is the best medicine. Planting trees helps to fight cancer,” he often jokes.
Now at the age of 85, Wang Chengbang is still working.

45.例文
Dear Sir/Madam,
I’m writing to apply to become a volunteer next week. And I am going to show the traditional handicraft, such as paper cutting, kites, lanterns and so on to spread the traditional Chinese culture. I am a boy from Class 2, Grade 9. I love Chinese culture very much and I want to spread Chinese culture. Besides, my English is very good, so I can communicate with them very easily. If I have the chance, I can make videos to tell international students the history of kites and teach them to make kites. I’m sure they will be very interested in it.
Hope to receive your letter soon.
