3.1 Understanding the 4 types of concluding sentences.
• Restatement -- The author paraphrases what has been stated in the topic sentence. e.g. TOPIC SENTENCE: Online learning has brought forth an alternative to the learners.
Concluding sentence: As is discussed, learners nowadays can benefit from online learning in many ways.
• Summary -- The author summerises all the major points previously discussed.
e.g. In all, we may conclude that environmental protection matters because of its huge impact on the earth.
• Suggestion / recommendation -- The author introduces his or her suggestions or
recommendations based on the arguments that have been presented. e.g. Believe me, Rome is a must-visit ifyou ever travel to Europe.
• Prediction -- The author makes a prediction about the future.
e.g. Therefore, my best friend will always be the one I can count on when I have problems.
3.2 Choose the most suitable concluding sentence for the paragraph on page 45.
