meeting roomꎬ his team head said he was an April fool. But at least
it got him into work on time for a change!
Richard Hawley
My students pretended (假装) to fight in the class. They

Bob was so scared that he could not moveꎬ and his body felt like ice.
He knew that he couldnt lose his head and began to think of the
things he could do. Again he heard the sound of someone trying to
climb into his home through the window. Bobs drums were standing in
the corner near the TV. “Waitꎬ maybe there is something I can doꎬ”

One dayꎬ I went swimming with my friends in the sea. I wanted
to play a joke on my friends. In the beginningꎬ I went swimming
aloneꎬ and I called to my friendsꎬ “Help me!” All my friends came
to help meꎬ only to find out that I was joking. But the next time I
wasnt joking. I swam in deep water and I was so careless that I was
almost drowned(淹死) . I tried my best to call my friends for helpꎬ
but this time nobody came to save my life. At lastꎬ they found it was

I think April Fools Day is a very unusual holiday. On April
Fools Dayꎬ you have to watch out for practical jokes. You also cant
trust everything you hear on April 1st. Even some main newspapers
will put fake news to fool people. I heard a story about how a piece of
fake news brought panic(恐慌) to London on April Fools Day. A
newspaper printed an article about how aliens landed in England. This
caused many people to be afraid and the local police were not very
pleased with the newspaper.
It can be interesting to play tricksꎬ but youd better not to go too
far. One April Fools Dayꎬ I called my mother from the university I
attended. I told her that I failed all of my exams and because of thisꎬ
I wasnt able to graduate. She was so upset that she started to cry. I
felt really bad about making her sad and tried to tell her it was just a
joke. After I told her it was only an April Fools Days jokeꎬ she got
angry with me that she hung up the phone. I had to call her back and
apologize before she would talk to me again.
April Fools Days jokes can be funnyꎬ but you should be careful
not to hurt peoples feelings by embarrassing them too much. Before
you actꎬ you should always make sure to put yourself in someone elses
shoes and think about how they might feel.
( B ) 67.What was the writer when he called his mother on April
Fools Day?
A.A worker. B.A student.
C.A teacher. D.A reporter.
( D )68.What does the underlined word “fake” mean in Chinese?
A.可怕的 B.过时的
C.最新的 D.虚假的
60
( D )69.What does the passage mainly tell us?
A.Dont play jokes on your friends.
B.Its bad for newspapers to put fake news.
C.Children shouldnt play jokes on their mothers.
D.Dont go too far when playing jokes on April Fools Day.

Ohio because he had to use the bathroom. Instead of turning off the
engine(引擎) and taking the key with himꎬ the driver left the bus
running. And he forgot to set the brake(制动器) because he was in a
hurry. “ It was cold outsideꎬ and I didnt want the kids to get cold
while I was using the bathroomꎬ” he told a police officer.
The bus slowly started moving away from the gas station. As the
bus picked up speedꎬ the kids began shouting and crying. Ten ̄year ̄
old Jake ran forward to the drivers seat and held the steering wheel
(方向盘) . He pressed hard on the brake pedal(踏板) and managed
to stop the bus as it came nearer to a river bed. Jake turned off the
engine at last. After the police arrived at the sceneꎬ they praised Jake
for his great effort.
“That is one cool kidꎬ” said the police officer. “ I told him he
would make a great police officer when he grew up.”
Jake wasnt impressed with what he had done. “ Stopping the
busꎬ” he saidꎬ “was easy compared to playing Grand Theft Auto Vꎬ”
his favorite action video game. The bus driver was taken to the police
station. He was at first charged(指控) with “ leaving a child alone
while motor is running” . The lawyer said he hoped to upgrade(加重)
the charge because of the number of children ( twenty) on the bus.
“Whatever he is charged withꎬ” the police officer saidꎬ “ I will
see that he never drives a bus again.”
( C )70.Why didnt the driver turn off the engine when he went to
the bathroom?
A.Because he was in a hurry.

How to Deal with Sadness
There may be too much sadness in our life. We might be
very sad because of terrible environmentꎬ bad weatherꎬ big
disasters and so on. If we cant face it positivelyꎬ it will affect
our emotional and physical health.
Everyone cant be happy all the time. But it is useless to
be sad! When we have some sadnessꎬ wed better talk to our
teachers or our classmates. We shouldnt be alone every day.
After schoolꎬ we should play with our friends. Why not listen
to soft music or take part in activities? We may feel much
better. We can also talk to our parents and deal with sadness
together. We should cheer ourselves up. Study hard and we
will forget sadness.
In a wordꎬ sadness is everywhere. If we keep it outꎬ we
will have a better life!
