根据文章第二段“We offer the newest bicycles in a wide variety, including basic bikes with foot brake (刹车), bikes with hand brake and gears (排挡), bikes with child seats, and children’s bikes. 根据文章最后一段“The tour departs from Dam Square every hour on the hour, starting at 1:00 pm every day. (旅游团每小时从大坝广场出发,每天下午1点开始)”可知,导游城市之旅从大坝广场开始。故选D。 【点睛】 B Turning soil, pulling weeds, and harvesting cabbage sound like tough work for middle and high school kids. And at first it is, says Abby Jaramillo, who with another teacher started Urban Sprouts, a school garden program at four low-income schools. The program aims to help students develop science skills, environmental awareness, and healthy lifestyles. Jaramillo’s students live in neighborhoods where fresh food and green space are not easy to find and fast food restaurants outnumber grocery stores. “The kids literally come to school with bags of snacks and large bottles of soft drinks,” she says. “They come to us thinking vegetables are awful, dirt is awful, insects are awful.” Though some are initially scared of the insects and turned off by the dirt, most are eager to try something new. Urban Sprouts’ classes, at two middle schools and two high schools, include hands-on experiments such as soil testing, flower-and-seed dissection, tastings of fresh or dried produce, and work in the garden. Several times a year, students cook the vegetables they grow, and they occasionally make salads for their entire schools. Program evaluations show that kids eat more vegetables as a result of the classes. “We have students who say they went home and talked to their parents and now they’re eating differently,” Jaramillo says. She adds that the program’s benefits go beyond nutrition. Some students get so interested in gardening that they bring home seeds to start their own vegetable gardens. Besides, working in the garden seems to have a calming effect on Jaramillo’s special education students, many of whom have emotional control issues. “They get outside,” she says, “and they feel successful.” 4. What do we know about Abby Jaramillo? A. She used to be a health worker. B. She grew up in a low-income family. C. She owns a fast food restaurant. D. She is an initiator of Urban Sprouts. 5. What was a problem facing Jaramillo at the start of the program? A. The kids’ parents distrusted her. B. Students had little time for her classes. C. Some kids disliked garden work. D. There was no space for school gardens. 6. Which of the following best describes the impact of the program? A. Far-reaching. B. Predictable. C. Short-lived. D. Unidentifiable. 7. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Rescuing School Gardens B. Experiencing Country Life C. Growing Vegetable Lovers D. Changing Local Landscape 【答案】4. D 5. C 6. A 7. 根据第一段的“And at first it is, says Abby Jaramillo, who with another teacher started Urban Sprouts, a school garden program at four low-income schools.(起初是这样的,艾比·哈拉米洛说,她和另一位老师在四所低收入学校启动了“Urban Sprouts”学校花园项目。)” “They come to us thinking vegetables are awful, dirt is awful, insects are awful.” Though some are initially scared of the insects and turned off by the dirt, most are eager to try something new.(她说。“他们来找我们,认为蔬菜很可怕,泥土很可怕,昆虫也很可怕。”虽然有些人一开始害怕昆虫,对泥土感到厌烦,但大多数人都渴望尝试新的东西。)”可知,项目之初,一些学生不喜欢园艺工作。故选C。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“She adds that the program’s benefits go beyond nutrition. Some students get so interested in gardening that they bring home seeds to start their own vegetable gardens. Besides, working in the garden seems to have a calming effect on Jaramillo’s special education students, many of whom have emotional control issues. “They get outside,” she says, “and they feel successful.”(她补充说,该计划的好处不仅仅是营养。有些学生对园艺非常感兴趣,他们带回家种子开始自己的菜园。此外,在花园里工作似乎对Jaramillo的特殊教育学生有镇静作用,他们中的许多人都有情绪控制问题。“他们走了出去,”她说,“他们觉得成功。”)”可知,这个项目不仅给学生提供了有营养的食物,而且许多学生回家开创了自己的菜园,对有情绪控制问题的学生也起到了镇静作用,从而推知,该项目的影响是深远的。故选A。 根据第一段的“And at first it is, says Abby Jaramillo, who with another teacher started Urban Sprouts, a school garden program at four low-income schools. The program aims to help students develop science skills, environmental awareness, and healthy lifestyles.(起初是这样的,艾比·哈拉米洛说,她和另一位老师在四所低收入学校启动了“Urban Sprouts”学校花园项目。该项目旨在帮助学生培养科学技能、环保意识和健康的生活方式。)”和最后一段的“Some students get so interested in gardening that they bring home seeds to start their own vegetable gardens.(一些学生对园艺非常感兴趣,于是他们把种子带回家,开始种自己的菜园)”以及下文内容可知,文章主要讲述了Abby Jaramillo等老师在低收入学校发起的培养学生科学能力,环保意识以及健康生活方式的Urban Sprouts花园项目,让学生种植蔬菜,对学生影响深远。 C Maaseik, a city in Belgium, has opened an exhibition of about 200 relics and treasures of the Tang Dynasty(618 AD - 907 AD), showing China’s golden age of ancient civilisation (文明) . The exhibition, which opened on May 11 and will continue until Oct. 20, is part of the city’s effort to create a centre of Chinese culture. Belgian Princess Mathilde formally announced the beginning of the exhibition, titled: China’s Golden Age: Treasures from the Tang Dynasty”. The items, including gold plates and silver wares for royal families, Tang Dynasty tri-colour glazed figurines (小雕像) of women and paintings, have recently been on exhibit in the Dutch city of Assen. All of the exhibited items are from Shaanxi Province, China. Its provincial capital Xi’an was the most populous (人口众多的) city in the world and once the capital of the Tang Dynasty. The Tang period is generally regarded as a high point in Chinese civilisation-requal to, or better than that of the earlier Han Dynasty(202 BC-220 AD), a golden age of Chinese culture. Several years ago, said Dirk Verlaak, vice-mayor of Maaseik, his city and Assen teamed up to host history and culture exhibitions of China’s first two imperial dynasties, the Qin (221 BC-207 BC) and the Han. The Chinese relics and treasures attracted 350, 000 visitors in Assen and 190, 000 in Maaseik. “Westerners don’t know much about China’s ancient civilisation and history, and we hope the new exhibition in Maaseik can attract more visitors,” said Verlaak. 8. Maaseik held the exhibition in order to ________. A. make money B. educate people C. attract foreign visitors D. spread Chinese culture 9. Which of the following statements is NOT true? A. Dirk Verlaak is interested in Chinese history B. All the items in the exhibition are from China C. Assen attracted more visitors than Maaseik several years ago D. This is the first time that Maaseik has held such an exhibition 10. What's Dirk Verlaak’s attitude toward the exhibition? A. Doubtful B. Content C. Worried D. Disappointed 11. What would be the best title for the passage? A. Tang Dynasty Treasures Exhibited in Belgium B. Tang Dynasty Treasures Discovered in Belgium C. Chinese Culture Goes around the World D. Chinese Civilisation Attracts Foreigners 【答案】8. D 9. D 10. B 11. 根据第一段中的“showing China's golden age of ancient civilization(展示中国古代文明的黄金时代)”和第二段中的“to create a centre of Chinese culture(去创造中国文化的中心)”可知,这次展览的主要目的是传播中国文化。 倒数第二段“Several years ago, said Dirk Verlaak, vice - mayor of Maaseik, his city and Assen teamed up to host history and culture exhibitions of China's first two imperial dynasties, (马塞克在几年前曾经举办过秦、汉两代历史文化展)”由此可知这次并不是马塞克第一次举办这样的展览。 根据文章的主要内容,尤其第一段“Maaseik, a city in Belgium, has opened an exhibition of about 200 relics and treasures of the Tang Dynasty(618 AD - 907 AD) (比利时马塞克市于5月开始举办的一场中国文化展览,展出的都是中国唐代的文物)”可知,文章主要介绍了比利时马赛克市举行的中国文化展。故标题用Tang Dynasty Treasures Exhibited in Belgium合适,故选A项。 D There’s no pizza on Mars, but scientists have found a solution to this problem for hungry astronauts: a pizza printer! NASA, the American space agency, has developed a machine that “prints” food. They showed a model of the printer in Austin, Texas last month. How does it work? Cartridges (墨盒) filled with powdered dough (面粉团) cheese, sauce, water and oil put the ingredients layer (层) by layer onto a printer bed. The printer bed, which gets hot from below, cooks the food as it’s being printed. Since most of the ingredients are powdered, they can be sent into space and stored for many years without going bad. Water makes food go sour, so the food powders are mixed with water and oil only when they are being printed. “Long-distance space travel requires more than 15 years of shelf life for food.” says Anjan Contractor, whose company developed the printer. “We take water out, and in that form, food will last maybe 30 years.” In outer space, there are far fewer choices for astronauts for dinner. Most of their foods—even things like beef or shrimp—are eaten from bags as powders (粉末). Scientists hope the new food printer can be used to make more delicious food in outer space, keeping astronauts healthier and happier. But the printer is not limited to use in outer space. Scientists think it could be useful on Earth, too. It could allow personal meals to be made at the dinner table, according to each person’s different needs. “Let’s say someone is an athlete in the family, and he needs more protein (蛋白质),” says Anjan Contractor, founder of Systems and Materials Research Corp, the company developing the printer. “We can design recipes for him and print out more protein-nutritious food for him.” 12. What is the main idea of the second paragraph? A. The advantages of the printer B. How does the printer work C. How the printer was invented D. The food in outer space will never go bad. 13. What does the underlined word “stored” mean in the third paragraph? A. sold B. kept C. transported D. eaten 14. Which of the following is TRUE? A. Astronauts eat beef powder in outer space. B. Only astronauts and athletes can eat the food from the printer. C. The printer can only be used in outer space. D. A model of the food printer was shown in New York last month. 15. What is the best title for this passage? A. Astronauts’ Life in Outer Space B. Hungry? Just Print! C. How to Make Pizza D. Long Lasting Food 【答案】12. B 13. B 14. A 15. 根据第二段“How does it work?(它是如何工作的?)” 根据第五段“Most of their foods—even things like beef or shrimp—are eaten from bags as powders .(他们的大部分食物——甚至像牛肉或虾这样的东西——都是装在袋子里当作粉末吃的。)” 故选A。 根据第一段“There’s no pizza on Mars, but scientists have found a solution to this problem for hungry astronauts: a pizza printer! NASA, the American space agency, has developed a machine that “prints” food.(火星上没有披萨,但科学家们已经为饥饿的宇航员找到了解决这个问题的办法:披萨打印机! Just Print!( 饿了吗? As an artist who shares her journey on social media, I’m often asked by curious followers how to begin an art journey. Unfortunately, there is no magic list I can offer. I do remember, though, what it was like to be a complete beginner. So I’ve put together some good tips for starting an art journey. ·Start small. I suggest using a sketchbook (素描本) for small studies. These small studies provide inspiration and may be a springboard for more complex works in the future. ___16___ You’ll want to look back on your journey to see how far you’ve come. ·Paint often and paint from life. There’s no better way to improve than to put in those brush miles. Whether you paint still lifes, portraits, or landscapes, paint from life as much as possible. ___17___ ·Continually challenge yourself to try something new. ___18___ Artistic growth can be a bit painful. Welcome to the club;we’ve all been there. I love taking on challenges. I once took up a challenge to create a painting every day for a month and post the works online. ·___19___ Seeking and accepting constructive feedback (反馈) is crucial to growth. I post my work on social media and, in turn, have met some of the kindest people. They make me feel valued and respected, no matter my level of artistic ability. The journey you’re on won’t follow a straight path. ___20___ Push through, give it time and put in the effort. You will harvest the rewards of an artistic life. A. Get out of your comfort zone. B. Make career plans and set goals. C. Don’t throw away your beginner art. D. Share your work if you feel comfortable doing so. E. You’ll hit roadblocks, and you’ll feel discouraged at times. F. Evaluate your performance and, if needed, redefine your role. G. You’ll develop that painting muscle memory that only comes with repetition. C 17. G 18. A 19. D 20. I suggest using a sketchbook (素描本) for small studies. These small studies provide inspiration and may be a springboard for more complex works in the future. 这些小的学习和实践可以提供灵感,并成为未来更复杂的作品的跳板)”以及后文“You’ll want to look back on your journey to see how far you’ve come. 【17题详解】 分析设空处,位于段尾,是对本段的总结,根据前文“Paint often and paint from life. There’s no better way to improve than to put in those brush miles. Whether you paint still lifes, portraits, or landscapes, paint from life as much as possible. 无论你是绘制静物、肖像还是风景,都要尽可能地从真实生活中去观察和绘制)”可知,本段主要讲述不断练习绘画,所以G项“You’ll develop that painting muscle memory that only comes with repetition. (不断挑战自己,尝试新事物)”以及后文“Artistic growth can be a bit painful. (艺术的成长可能会有点痛苦)”可知,A项“Get out of your comfort zone. 故选A项。 【19题详解】 分析设空处,位于段首,是本段的中心句,根据后文“Seeking and accepting constructive feedback (反馈) is crucial to growth. I post my work on social media and, in turn, have met some of the kindest people. They make me feel valued and respected, no matter my level of artistic ability. 无论我的艺术水平如何,他们都让我感到受到了重视和尊重)”可知,本段主要讲述了是分享自己的作品,所以D项“Share your work if you feel comfortable doing so. 【20题详解】 分析设空处,空处位于第二句,此处应是对前一句的进一步解释,并同时引出后文,根据前文“The journey you’re on won’t follow a straight path. (你的旅程不会是一条笔直的道路)”以及后文“Push through, give it time and put in the effort. You will harvest the rewards of an artistic life. 你将收获艺术生活的回报)”可知,E项“You’ll hit roadblocks, and you’ll feel discouraged at times. A teacher gave his students a test. I think it’s not a good idea to randomly pair up students for the spoken English training after class. The reasons are as follows. To begin with, randomly pairing up students may lead to unbalanced language abilities within the groups. This can hinder the progress of students as the more advanced one may dominate the conversation, leaving little room for the other students to improve. Besides, students may feel uncomfortable or less motivated if paired with someone who they don’t get along with or have difficulty communicating with. My suggestion is to group students based on their language abilities or to let students choose their own partners. This way, everyone can feel more comfortable practicing and improving their spoken English together. Thank you for considering my suggestion. 5. 8. Chinese Civilisation Attracts Foreigners D There’s no pizza on Mars, but scientists have found a solution to this problem for hungry astronauts: a pizza printer! NASA, the American space agency, has developed a machine that “prints” food. They showed a model of the printer in Austin, Texas last month. How does it work? Cartridges (墨盒) filled with powdered dough (面粉团), cheese, sauce, water and oil put the ingredients layer (层) by layer onto a printer bed. C The printer can only be used in outer space. D. A model of the food printer was shown in New York last month. 15 What is the best title for this passage? A. Astronauts’ Life in Outer Space B. Hungry? Just Print! C. How to Make Pizza D.
