A project, under which senior people living alone take care of students who are not their grandchildren while the parents are still at work, is useful in cutting down the pressure of working parents and the loneliness of senior people.
The project was started by a neighborhood in Chengdu, Sichuan. Besides picking up the students after school, the old people also cook dinner for them and help them with homework. All services are paid nothing.
Yang Qiong, founder of the project, said the idea came from a personal experience of hers. The 33-year-old community worker has two children who would be unattended (没人照顾的) after school when she and her husband were still at work. One day, she asked an old woman in her community to take care of her children and found that the three had a good time together. And after several old people told her that they wanted to do something for the community, she decided to give the idea a try.
After a simple survey, she learned that 40 percent of the students in the neighborhood were in such a situation. And their parents strongly hoped this could be solved. When the project began in July 2019, old people showed great interest in it.
According to Yang, the grannies take care of 30 to 40 children a day. A granny named Zhang was the first to sign up for the project. “Though I’m old, I still want to help,” she said.

A small restaurant in Beijing makes people feel warm by providing a special set of meal for free. “The Set Meal A” in the restaurant has a bowl of beef noodles. The meal is free for people in need.

A man who was climbing a mountain thought he was alone. But suddenly, he was hit by a falling rock and then, a woman climber fell from above, landing right on him. They were both badly injured. His leg was broken. He tried to stand but couldn’t. The woman’s arm was broken and couldn’t climb. What were they going to do?
It was very cold and night was coming. They both knew they wouldn’t live through the night if they didn’t go down the mountain before darkness came.
The woman had an idea. “Look,” she said, “I have two good legs, and you have two good arms. Together, that makes one healthy body.”
They tied themselves together so that he was on her back. Slowly, they climbed down, little by little. Every step was difficult. They had to stop every minute or so, but the man was counting on (指望) the woman’s strong legs and the woman was counting on the strength (力量) in the man’s arms to keep them from falling.
When they finally reached the foot of the mountain hours later, they were found and sent to the hospital by the local people. In the end, they were fine.
They both learned a good lesson that day. A good team isn’t made up of people who can all do the same thing. It must be made up of people who can provide many different skills. By using their individual strengths, they went down the mountain safely.

You’ve probably heard many times how exercise is good for you. But do you know that there are two kinds of exercise?
Aerobic (有氧的) exercise
Like other muscles (肌肉), the heart enjoys a good workout (锻炼). You can provide it with one in the form of aerobic exercise. Aerobic exercise is any kind of exercise that gets the heart working better. When you often give your heart this kind of workout, it will get stronger and better.
If you play team sports, you’re probably meeting 60 minutes or more of physical activity on practice days. Some team sports that give you a great aerobic workout are basketball, soccer, and football. But if you don’t play team sports, don’t worry—there are lots of ways to get aerobic exercise on your own or with friends. These include biking, running, swimming, skating, and walking quickly. In fact, these kinds of exercise that you do on your own are easier to go on when you leave high school.
Strength (力量) training
The heart isn’t the only muscle that can become better because of exercise. Most of the other muscles in your body enjoy exercise too. When you use your muscles and they become stronger, you can be active for longer periods of time without getting worn out.
Strong muscles help protect you when you exercise by helping to prevent injuries (伤害). Muscles also burn more energy than fat when a person is at rest, so building up your muscles will help you burn more calories (卡路里) and keep a healthy weight.
49. What can we know about aerobic exercise from Paragraph 2?
A. Doing it often is good for our heart.
B. Only it can help us have a stronger heart.
C. Only strong persons can do it more.
D. The longer you do it, the better your heart will be.
50. How does the writer show us aerobic exercise is any kind of exercise that gets the heart working better?
A. With pictures. B. With examples. C. With experiences. D. With questions.
51. How does strength training help us?
①By making us become stronger.
②By making us active for longer time.
③By preventing us from hurting ourselves.
④By helping us keep a healthy weight.
A. ①②③ B. ②③④ C. ①③④ D. ①②③④
52. What is the best title for this passage?
A. The Good of Exercise to People B. The Best Time to Do Exercise
C. Two Different Kinds of Exercise D. The Importance of Exercise

3. 一般将来时被动语态:will be+过去分词。如:A new movie will be put on this summer.
4. 含有情态动词的被动语态:情态动词+be+过去分词。如:The news should be sent to all the students. 5. 现在进行时的被动语态:am/is/are+being+过去分词。如:A new cinema is being built now. 6. 过去进行时的被动语态:was/were+过去分词。如:A meeting was being held when I got there. 7. 现在完成时的被动语态:have/has been+过去分词。如:Many trees have been planted so far. 8.过去完成时的被动语态:had been+过去分词。如:Another new building had been completed by the end of last term.

A. ①②③ B. ②③④ C. ①③④ D. ①②③④
