When was the last time you wrote a letter? I mean that you write a letter by hand. In a digital (数字) world, sending a text or an email on the phone is more convenient than writing by hand. However, some people say that writing still has many advantages.
These days, when people want things in writing, an electronic text will be accepted. Doing this on a computer means it could be saved, copied and sent by email. But correcting a handwritten text is special: It requires planning and thought and practices your handwriting. Besides, it helps you to remember spelling.
Some people believe your brain benefits (受益) from using pens and paper. This is even more important to students. A professor from the University of Calgary says that taking notes by hand needs people to think more, for example, how to spell vocabularies. Others agree that handwriting may practice your hands and fingers (手指) better.
Writing a handwritten letter to a friend or a loved one can probably have a better effect. Katherine Moller, a writer, told the BBC that in a world where it is so easy to chat online, to email or to send a fast text, it is so precious (珍贵的) to know someone chose to turn off the virtual world and spend some time with you. So, though digital skills are important, don’t throw away your pens and pencils—especially if your phone or laptop runs out of power!

11. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By telling a story. B. By showing a letter.
C. By asking a question. D. By showing an email.
12. Why is correcting a handwritten text special?
a. Because it is important to students.
b. Because it practices your handwriting.
c. Because it requires planning and thought.
d. Because it is useful, convenient and quick.
e. Because it helps you to remember spelling.
A. b, d, e B. b, c, e C. b, c, d D. a, b, e

15. What’s the best title for the text?

A mind map is basically a tool that connects information around a central subject. It can help you make a knowledge bank to solve problems. A student recently said, “I thought mind mapping would take a lot of time to do but in fact it saves me time. ___16___”
How to make a mind map? Now follow these steps for making wonderful mind maps.
___17___ Why? Because starting in the center lets your brain spread out in all directions and express itself more freely and naturally.
Use a picture for your central idea. Why? Because a picture is worth a thousand words and helps you use your imagination. ___18___ It helps get your attention and makes you work more excitedly!
Connect your main branches (分支) to the central picture and connect your second and third-level branches to the first and second levels, etc. Why? ___19___ It likes to connect two, or three, or four things together. If you connect the branches, you will understand and remember a lot more easily.
Use one key word every line. Why? Because every single key word can make you learn more clearly and easily.
Use pictures as many as possible. Why? Because each picture, just like the central picture, is also worth a thousand words. So, if you have 10 pictures in your mind map, they are already worth 10,000 words of notes.
