【原文】Dear students,
Body language is very important in our life. When we talk with others, we not only use words, but also use our body language. Here are some ways to know someone’s real meaning or have better communication. When you meet a strange person, you can shake hands to show you are friendly. Of course, you may hug each other if you are good friends. When a person asks you for help, but you can’t help him actually, you can put your hands beside two sides of your body. It means “I don’t know”. Sometimes you may have a headache. Then you’ll put your hands around your head and hold it. It can tell others you feel terrible. There are many people in a big place. It’s so noisy that you want them to be quiet. Then you’ll put one finger on your mouth. Gradually, it’ll be quiet. Here comes the last. If you want to show your agreement with someone, put one of your hands in front of you, hold two fingers into a circle and spread another three straightly. It means OK.

Writing was one of my favourite classes in school. My teacher said I had some skills as a writer, so she asked me to help some kindergarten students write letters to Santa Claus. I asked the teacher, “Why? Santa won’t answer them. What’s the point?” She told me that it was a good lesson in writing. So I agreed to help.
We finished writing the letters. The next part of the project was to go to the post office and deliver them. We gave the letters to the man there, and he smiled happily. I was the last one to leave, and just as I was going out of the door, the postman’s reading glasses fell out of his pocket. I picked them up. They were broken. He said, “That’s okay. I’ll just put some tape on them.” I held them as he taped them up, and then I ran to catch up with the kids.
About a week later, the kindergarten teacher came to me and said, “Guess what? Santa is in my classroom!” I knew it was just someone who dressed up as Santa, but he handed out letters to each little kid by name. Santa had received the letters and answered them. It was great fun to watch each kid read a letter from Santa.
I walked up to Santa to thank him before he left. When I did, I noticed that his reading glasses had tape on them. It was the post office man! That man, who worked hard at the post office, took time from his busy life to answer those letters and make the kids feel good.

Cleaning your teeth often, every day, is related to a lower risk for heart problems. A new study found that brushing your teeth several times a day resulted in fewer cases of heart failure and arrhythmia. What the research found is that brushing your teeth three times a day, or more, was related to a 10% lower risk of arrhythmia. It was also related to a 12% lower risk of heart failure.
The researchers examined information on more than 161, 000 people aged 40 to 79 in Korea with no history of heart problems. They followed up ten and a half years later, and found that 3% had developed arrhythmia and almost 5% had developed heart failure. Information was collected on their height, weight, laboratory tests, sicknesses, and lifestyle. They recorded their mouth health in connection with cleaning teeth.
You may wonder, how are teeth health and heart health connected? Earlier research suggests that not taking care to clean and brush teeth leads to bacteria in the blood. This can cause inflammation, and increases the risk for unusual heartbeat and heart failure. A study last year showed that brushing your teeth twice a day for at least two minutes may lower the risk of heart diseases. The researchers found that people who brushed less than twice a day for less than two minutes were three times more at risk, compared with those who brushed at least twice a day for two minutes.
To have good oral health, the experts advise people to: Brush their teeth twice a day for at least two minutes each time with a fluoride toothpaste. Clean between their teeth once per day.
Keep a healthy diet. See a dentist often.

Today we talk about being overcome with emotion, both good and bad. We have a somewhat strange expression you can use to describe that situation. ___32___ However, I can also be beside myself with sadness, anger, or most other emotions.
You can use this expression to talk about others, too. Just change the reflexive pronoun. For example, a woman who gives birth can be beside herself with awe and probably worn out. ___33___ Now, let’s talk about usage. In American English, you can simply say “I’m beside myself” to mean you are shocked or very upset. For example, you are having a bad fight with a close friend. ___34___ You might shout, write your friend an angry letter, or just go somewhere by yourself and cry.
___35___ A high school student applies to several colleges. If they all turn her down, she could be beside herself. She might stay up all night worrying about what to do next.
We have another expression that is very similar to “being beside yourself.” ___36___ We use this expression in the same way we use “beside oneself”. So we can be out of minds with fear, love, happiness, or any other emotion. And just like “beside oneself”, we also use this expression on its own without a certain emotion.

【33题详解】
根据空前“a woman who gives birth”可知,这位女性是一位新妈妈,而她的丈夫就是新爸爸,与D项中的“The new father”呼应,而空前的“awe”又与D项中的“awe”呼应,选项D“新爸爸也充满了担忧。”符合题意。故选D。
【34题详解】
根据“you are having a bad fight with a close friend”可知,空前以第二人称举例来说明beside oneself的用法,并且已经给出了前提条件,此处就应该引出beside yourself,选项B“你可能会很生气。”符合题意。故选B。
【35题详解】
根据空后“A high school student applies to several colleges. If they all turn her down, she could be beside herself. She might stay up all night worrying about what to do next.”可知,此空是段首句,所以应该选总结性强的句子,或引出下文内容的句子,并且根据空后内容可知,本段介绍了beside oneself的另一种用法,选项A“这是另外一种情况。”符合题意。故选A。
【36题详解】
根据空前的“another expression”以及下文的“be out of minds with fear, ...”可知,此处与C项中的“be out of our minds”呼应,选项C“我们也可以使用‘失去理智’。”符合题意。故选C。

In American English, you can simply say “I’m beside myself” to mean you are shocked or very upset.
