Ladies and gentlemen,
There is a famous saying in China, “A year’s plan starts with spring.” It tells us that the most important time of a year is spring. The Chinese Spring Festival is celebrated in January or February. It is the biggest day of a year and it is also a new start for everything. At this time, people make up New Year’s resolutions and plans for the whole year.
When the Spring Festival comes, no matter where people work, they’ll come back home and get together with their family. Before the festival, people are usually busy cleaning up their houses and putting up couplets on the doors. On the eve of the festival, people always have a big dinner with their family, and then watch the Spring Festival Gala on TV. As for children, they enjoy letting off fireworks and getting red packets. In the next few days, people visit their relatives and friends. I like the Spring Festival best, because I can visit my relatives and get many red packets.

Have you ever thought about where the things you use come from? If the things you use do not come from nature, they are man-made. We use millions of man-made things every day.
To begin with, you have to tell what things are natural. Now take a look at the beautiful river covered with ice. The ice on the river is natural while the ice in the fridge is man-made.
How about glue, pencils and money?
Is glue natural or man-made? Well, glue used to be natural in the past. People just found some materials sticky (粘的). Then they were used as glue. In modern times, many glue companies put at least four materials together in a new way to produce glue. So glue is changed to be man-made.
Pencils are made mostly from wood, graphite (石墨) and clay that come from nature. The materials are changed by adding other materials and heating to make something new—a pencil!
Think about money! We have paper money made of paper and coins made of metals, so they are natural, right? No. Its production is not an easy task. Creating money requires special machines and printing skills to make the paper or metals into money.
We are living in a world full of man-made things. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? You must decide for yourself.
1-2题完成句子;3-5题简略回答问题。
1. Many modern glue companies put together m a new way to produce glue.
2. The ice in the fridge is (man-made/natural).
3. What natural things are mentioned in the passage? (写出文中提到的两种即可)
4. What are required to make the paper or metals into money?
5. We are living in a world full of man-made things, is that good or bad? Why?
