Accidents often happen in schools around the world. For this reason, the ICRC (红十字国际委员会) began its education program in 2017. First aid training in schools around the world is one of its plans.
Khalida is a 16-year-old student who wants to become a doctor. She lives in Aghdam in Azerbaijan (阿塞拜疆). She took part in ICRC’s first aid training in 2021. One important lesson she learned was that in accidents everyone must take care of themselves first before helping others.
Since attending the trainings, Khalida has already helped her friend who hurt his hand with broken glasses. She even taught some of the other students who could not attend the training as well as her cousins some of the skills. “The training is important,” Khalida said. “The teachers and students in our school used to know little about first aid. Now we can carry out some of the skills correctly in different situations.”
Marisela teaches at a school in Venezuela (委内瑞拉). The most important thing Marisela learned from the first aid training was to stay calm in order to make her safe at the moment. The training has made her a strong and confident person and an excellent first aider. She and other teachers have already treated small injuries. Besides, they have taught their students some first aid skills.
Thanks to the ICRC’s first aid training, many students and teachers, like Khalida and Marisela, have become professional first aiders. While bringing these skills back to their families and communities, they will always carry the feeling of safety, confidence and resilience (韧性) within themselves.

Cars are becoming more advanced (先进的). In the past ten years, we have seen better electric car technology and driverless cars. Have you ever imagined driving your car only with your mind? It might seem to appear in science-fiction movies. However, with its concept car (概念车), the Vision AVTR, Mercedes-Benz is making mind-controlled vehicles a reality.
The car producer Mercedes-Benz brought out its futuristic (未来派的) car at a show in Munich in Sept. 2021. It is called Vision AVTR. The four letters at the end of its name are easy to make people think of the movie Avatar. In fact, the car takes inspiration exactly from it. Just like the Na’vi people from Avatar, who are able to communicate directly and wordlessly with their flying Mountain Banshees, drivers can just control the car using their brains through the brain-computer interface (脑机接口), or BCI.
To drive the car, drivers or users of the Vision AVTR must wear the BCI device (设备) around their head. First, the BCI needs a minute to “read” the driver’s brain. Then, the device can pick up signals from the user’s brain that work to control the car. This means that users can directly control the car using their thoughts.
A Mercedes spokeswoman spoke about how exciting she thought the futuristic car was. She said, “Mercedes-Benz is setting another milestone in the merging (融合) of man and machine.” According to the Mercedes website, “As soon as you get in, the car becomes a component of your own body and a tool to discover the environment.”
