Yet there was something in my way — the River Thames. I checked my map to see how to reach the path, but there was no other footpath that would lead me to the island on which it sat. It was only accessible by boat. It was this path that came to mind when, a few weeks later, I decided to try cross-country swimming, which combines water and walking. As I got into the river, its coolness welcome on the warm August day, the weight of my supplies dissipated. My back was fee, and I simply puled everything I needed in a bag behind me, feeling almost weightless. I relaxed into the water, my hair flowing around my face as I slowly floated alongside dragonflies, a moorhen and her chicks-none of which seemed to even acknowledge my presence. The whole experience went by all too quickly and in no time I was drying off and walking back to the station. Though cross-country swimming was invented to provide a challenge, I believed it had given me something much more important-the confidence to try it by myself. So I decided to return to my inaccessible island, the footpath by the Thames. I got into the waterway and swam, exploring the island’s banks for a while. After five minutes of searching, the island let me in: I found my entrance point alongside a tree and pulled myself out. Though the Thames loop wasn’t that long a walk, and the swim was not too big a challenge, it represented more than that. It gave me the chance to pioneer a new route never open to me before, the opportunity to reach a picnic spot that otherwise would have been off-limits and, when it came to that footpath, the ability to access the previously inaccessible. 24. What initially prevented the author from accessing the public footpath? A. Overgrown fields. B. A lack of signposts. C A dense woodland. D. A fast-flowing river. 25. What does the underlined word “dissipated” in paragraph 4 most probably mean? A. Spread B. Multiplied. C. Remained. D. Disappeared. 26. Which word best describes the author’s cross-country swimming trial? A. Encouraging. B. Exhausting. C. Thrilling. D. Frustrating 27. What does the island by the Thames mean to the author? A. A chance to get closer to nature. B. A mental and physical burden. C. A symbol of personal achievement. D. An escape from the real world. 【答案】24. D 25. D 26. A 27. C 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了作者的一次越野游泳经历,这次经历带给了作者自信心,找到了个人的成就感。 【24题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段“Yet there was something in my way — the River Thames, whose water runs very fast.(然而有一样东西挡住了我的去路——泰晤士河,它的水流得很快)”可知,最初是湍急的河流阻碍了作者到达公共人行道。故选D。 【25题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线词后文“My back was free, and I simply pulled everything I needed in a bag behind me, feeling almost weightless.(我的背部是自由的,我只是把我需要的东西放在我身后的一个袋子里,感觉几乎没有重量)”可知,此处是指补给的重量消失了,所以dissipated意为“消失”。故选D。 26题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段“Though cross-country swimming was invented to provide a challenge, I believed it had given me something much more important-the confidence to try it by myself.(虽然发明越野游泳是为了提供挑战,但我相信它给了我更重要的东西——自己尝试的信心)”可知,作者的越野游泳经历是很激励人心的。故选A。 【27题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“It gave me the chance to pioneer a new route never open to me before, the opportunity to reach a picnic spot that otherwise would have been off-limits and, when it came to that footpath, the ability to access the previously inaccessible.(它让我有机会开拓一条以前从未向我开放的新路线,有机会到达一个野餐的地方,否则就会是禁区,当它来到那条小径时,有能力进入以前无法进入的地方)”可知,找到通往小岛的小径对作者来说意味着个人的成就。故选C。 C For many of us, the closest we get to wild animals is at a zoo. These places let us see amazing animals-from big cats to tiny lizards-and what they are like. It’s an enjoyable and educational experience for us, but is it the best environment for these animals? Long ago, people could only see wild animals as stuffed dead exhibits in a museum. Later on, live animals were captured by explorers, brought home and put on show to the public in menageries (野生动物园), Animal welfare was not a priority. Modern zoos, however, have transformed the living environments for animals, making bigger enclosures, removing bars, and — to some extent — copying their natural habitats. Some people have questioned the cruelty of keeping animals captive (养的) for entertainment, but zoos are keen to show that they help wildlife by educating us about conservation. In the UK, the introduction of The Zoo Licensing Act 1981 also required zoos to educate the public. Well-managed zoos are now also involved in supporting and funding protection programmes. Probably the biggest claim from zoos today is that they help protect species in the wild that are under threat due to climate change. Robert Young, Chair in Wildlife Conservation at Salford University said:”There are quite a lot of different species around the planet which we wouldn’t have today if it wasn’t for zoos.” Some zoos have captive breeding programs which help to preserve the future of species that would otherwise face extinction. Actor Leonardo DiCaprio recently praised Chester Zoo in the LK for its conservation work. It brought “a rare fish species back from the dead” after breeding and releasing a school of golden skiffia fish back into their native river. While the debate about having zoos continues, new opportunities to meet wildlife are being explored, like virtual reality. Jon Coe, a zoo designer, told the BBC: “Taking a walk through a herd of elephants in the Serengeti, I think, is going to be possible pretty soon.” 28. What is paragraph 2 mainly about? A The origins of menageries. B. The benefits of modern zoos. C. The problems with animal captivity. D. The historical shift in treating wild animals. 29. Why does the author mention the Zoo Licensing Actof1981? A. To emphasize the educational role of zoos. B. To explain why zoos began to help wildlife C. To introduce methods of conserving wildlife. D. To state the need for stricter regulations of zoos. 30. What’s Robert Young’s attitude toward having zoos? A. Critical. B. Neutral. C. Doubtful. D. Supportive. 31. What conservation achievement was attributed to Chester Zoo by actor Leonardo DiCaprio? A. Exploring ways for humans to meet wildlife. B. Raising funds for captive breeding programs C. Reviving and releasing a rare fish species. D. Involving celebrities in raising wildlife awareness. 【答案】28. D 29. A 30. D 31. C 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇议论文,文章介绍了是否应该开设动物园这一问题。 【28题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第二段“Long ago, people could only see wild animals as stuffed dead exhibits in a museum. Later on, live animals were captured by explorers, brought home and put on show to the public in menageries (野生动物园), Animal welfare was not a priority. Modern zoos, however, have transformed the living environments for animals, making bigger enclosures, removing bars, and — to some extent — copying their natural habitats.(很久以前,人们只能在博物馆里看到填充标本的野生动物。 根据第三段“Some people have questioned the cruelty of keeping animals captive (养的) for entertainment, but zoos are keen to show that they help wildlife by educating us about conservation. In the UK, the introduction of The Zoo Licensing Act 1981 also required zoos to educate the public. Well-managed zoos are now also involved in supporting and funding protection programmes.(有些人质疑圈养动物作为娱乐的残忍,但动物园热衷于通过教育我们保护野生动物来表明它们对野生动物的帮助。在英国,《1981年动物园许可证法案》的出台也要求动物园对公众进行教育。管理良好的动物园现在也参与支持和资助保护项目)”可知,故文章提及《1981年动物园许可证法案》是为了强调动物园的教育作用。故选A。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Robert Young, Chair in Wildlife Conservation at Salford University said:”There are quite a lot of different species around the planet which we wouldn’t have today if it wasn’t for zoos.”(索尔福德大学野生动物保护主任罗伯特·杨说:“如果没有动物园,地球上有很多不同的物种,我们今天就不会有这些物种。”)”可知,罗伯特·杨对动物园的态度是支持。故选D。 【31题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“Actor Leonardo DiCaprio recently praised Chester Zoo in the LK for its conservation work. It brought “a rare fish species back from the dead” after breeding and releasing a school of golden skiffia fish back into their native river.(演员莱昂纳多·迪卡普里奥最近称赞了英国切斯特动物园的保护工作。 C。 D The American Psychological Association (APA) has issued its first guidance on teens’ social media use. What’s most surprising in its databased recommendations is how little we know about how these apps affect our kids. The relative newness of platforms like Snapchat and TikTok means little research is available about their long-term effects on teen and tween brains. Getting better data will require significant funding-and much more openness from tech companies. What little evidence we do have unsurprisingly suggests that social media trades on motivators (激励因素) that aren’t great for young brains. Many kid start using social media “at the worst possible time when it comes to brain development”, says Mitch Prinstein, a psychologist and neuroscientist at the University of North Carolina(UNC). “Thing like the ‘like’ button and artificial intelligence(in general)are going to affect young people’s brains in a way that’s very different from adult brains when it comes to the desire to stay online and to say or do almost anything to get followers.” When it comes to social interactions (互动), he compares kids’ brains to a car with a huge gas pedal and weak brakes (刹车). Earlier this year, Prinstein and his UNC colleagues published the results of one of the first studies of how the teenage brain reacts to social media. The team surveyed a group of middle schoolers to understand their social media habits, and then stuck them in an MRI machine to watch their brains as they reacted to social rewards or punishments. They found that 12-year-olds who habitually checked social media had different neural patterns, with more activity over time in parts of the brain associated with motivation, salience(or where attention is focused)and cognitive (认知的) control. The team didn’t weigh in on whether those differences were good or bad, or whether the relationship was causal or correlational. But their work points to the need for more research. It should also remind parents of the need to be keenly aware of social media’s hidden influence on still-developing brains. 32. What issue regarding social media apps does the APA report highlight? A. Their effects on social connections. B. The lack of data on their influence. C. The dishonesty of their developers D. The ineffectiveness of their motivators. 33. Which word can best describe young brains in relation to social interactions? A. Uncontrolled. B. Sensitive C. Unpredictable. D. Productive 34. What did Prinstein’s team discover about teenagers who regularly usesocial media? A. They are usually highly motivated B. They find it difficult to concentrate C. They have greater cognitive control D. Their brains show unique features 35. What might be the best title for the text? A. Empowering Teens in the Digital Age B. How to Guide Teens’ Social Media Engagement C. The Importance of Healthy Social Media Habits D. The Hidden Influence of Social Media on Young Minds 【答案】32. B 33. A 34. D 35. B The public footpath laid barely 20 meters from where I stood, promising a walk along the river, passing fields and through woodland, well away from any road. C. A dense woodland. D. A fast-flowing river. 25 What does the underlined word “dissipated” in paragraph 4 most probably mean? A. Spread B. Multiplied. C. Remained. C For many of us, the closest we get to wild animals is at a zoo. A. The origins of menageries. D The American Psychological Association (APA) has issued its first guidance on teens’ social media use. She recalled the joyful experiences they shared last summer, which filled her with excitement for the upcoming holiday. “Girls!” Rose heard her father calling. She raced to her big sister’s room, telling her that Dad was calling them, and they rushed downstairs log either. Dad put his arm around Mom and told them that they were going on a trip to the Virunga Mountains of Africa. There were three national parks that they would visit. Rose and Gina looked at each other. “What?” they said with one voice. Mom told them it would be really exciting to go there on a trip. At 12 years old, Rose would prefer going to an amusement park or a beach. She thought it important to let her parents know she didn’t want to go there but to the beach for a week or two. “Well,” said Dad, “I have to go for an assignment for the paper. We’re covering the mountain gorillas (大猩猩) because they’re critically endangered these years. So, I thought it’d also be a great place to take a vacation. I’m sure it’ll be very educational for you girls.” Gina let out a sigh, unable to contain her disappointment. She wanted to say something but Mom interrupted and announced that the trip was set on the next Monday. “Sit down, both of you.” Dad had on his severe look. “Girls, it’s important for you to know about the world around you. This is a wonderful chance for you to experience and learn an amazing place. Do you know anything about the mountain gorillas?” The sisters shook their heads. “Well, get your laptop computer, Gina. I want you to look them up right now,” said Dad, “Rose, there is a book on the bookshelf about the cute mountain gorillas. Find it and read it.” 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 The girls dragged their feet upstairs. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next Monday came and the family set out excitedly. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
