However, most visitors just visit for a day. The tourism officers wanted more people to stay longer, so they decided to hire a person to live on an island and write about the area. “We are looking for someone to tell the stories of the Great Barrier Reef, and we have come up with what we think is the dream job,” explained Anthony Hayes, the Chief Executive of Tourism in Queensland. They posted the job on their website and waited for replies. In England, Ben Southall was looking online. He saw the job posting. It sounded too good to be true. He immediately made a video about himself. He loved to travel. He described his 40, 000-mile (64, 374-kilometer) trip around Africa. He was a good writer and an excellent swimmer, he explained. In short, he was the perfect job applicant. Then he submitted his application and hoped for the best. In Australia, the tourism officers in Queensland were very busy. They received 35, 000 applications from people all over the world. They chose 15 top applicants—including Southall. Then they invited these applicants to Australia. The interview was unusual: four days of swimming, diving, and writing blogs about the experience. At the end of the four days, they chose the best applicant: Ben Southall. This was the beginning of Southall’s amazing experience. From his first day at work to his last, he explored the islands. He swam in the clear, blue water and dived among the coral reefs. He visited local hotels, and he ate at all the best restaurants. “Every day was a different experience: jet skiing, staying in five-star resorts, diving, and then writing about it.” Meanwhile, people were reading his blogs all over the world. However, in the last week, his luck came to an end. A poisonous jellyfish stung him. Luckily, he recovered and was able to finish his work. In the end, was this the perfect job? Yes, but Southall discovered that it was extremely hard work. He was under a lot of pressure to write about all his adventures. He had to post videos and photos every day. These videos and blogs attracted more people to the island. So, Ben Southall swam, dived, had a good time, and did a good job. It takes some skills to do this. At the same time, news reporters must follow strict requirements and have a deep understanding of news writing. Know what you’re going to write about. Newsworthy events can happen anytime and anywhere. So reporters need to develop a good nose for news. Get all the facts and look at the details. Be sure to look at a story from different angle(角度) . Even if you are covering a popular story or topic that others are writing about, look for an angle that will make this one yours. Check facts to avoid mistakes. Sources may also make mistakes and some may even deceive you. It’s wise to get in touch with other sources. In a shooting event, for example, getting the facts from the police and from both the criminal and victim isn’t enough. You should also interview other witnesses who may give more information about the event. Interviewing people and getting a firsthand source on your topic can be valuable. Start writing the news. When it comes to the body of the article, the main information should be given in the leading statement. It is often a short one, including the basics of what happened, where and when it took place, who was involved and why it’s newsworthy. These details are the main point that lets the reader know. Other information about the story follows. This form allows editors to cut off the last paragraphs if there’re space limits. Check your article for mistakes. If time allows, leave the article for a moment and then read through it again with a fresh eye. Newspaper publications usually have someone check for mistakes but keep in mind that you’re the first line of defense(防护) . Grammar mistakes are embarrassing(令人尴尬的) , and some mistakes may result in a lawsuit(诉讼) . 26.What can we learn about journalism from the first paragraph? A.It is developing fast. B.It is very challenging. C.It is very interesting. D.It is popular worldwide. 27.The underlined word “deceive” in Paragraph 4 is close to “________”. A.warn B.help C.interest D.trick 28.Paragraph 5 tells us a good news article ________. A.begins with a summary B.ends with happy ending C.has enough smart questions D.gives opinions about the event 29.How can a reporter avoid getting embarrassed by his news report? A.By choosing a proper topic. B.By checking it for grammar mistakes. C.By filling it with enough details. D.By removing boring facts from it. 根据“While I’m filming, I work all over the world.”和“I want my films and photographs to do this for other people!”可知,我希望我的电影和照片能为其他人做到这一点,所以Ricky进行电影制作和摄影工作,故选C。 3.推理判断题。根据“That also depends on the project.
