The 15-day-old leopard cub (幼豹) doesn’t make a sound as he sits in a sugarcane field in western India. The youngster is waiting for his mother to return from hunting rats, hare, and deer. Most of the year, the eight-foot-tall sugarcane stalks provide a safe, quiet place for cubs to hide in until their mom returns. But it’s March — harvest season in India — and people are working in the field. With so many humans around, Mom is too nervous to return to her baby. As the workers slice through the sugarcane with three-foot-long knives, they find the lonely cub sitting on the ground. He’s so young that his eyes haven’t opened yet. The humans don’t know how long the little one has been alone, but they know that he won’t survive for more than a week without care and food from his mom. Luckily, the harvesters know what to do: They call an animal rescue organization called Wildlife SOS.
The rescuers arrive and give the cub a checkup: They check the little wild leopard’s heartbeat, take his temperature, and look for any signs of injury or distress. The cub seems healthy but dehydrated. So they take the cub to their wildlife hospital, where they can give him some water until the cub is ready for the next step — reuniting with his mom.
Leopards are active at night. So Mom is most likely to return to the field where she left her cub in the dark when people aren’t around. At dusk, the rescuers place the cub exactly where they found him and attach a camera trap to a bamboo pole nearby. Then they leave. In the middle of the night, the mama leopard walks quietly through the sugarcane. Then she spots her baby on the ground. She gives the cub three big licks on the cheek, gently grabs the youngster in her mouth, then carries him away.
47. Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A. The mama leopard likes to hide in the field.
B. The mama leopard is out to hunt rats, hare and deer.

C. She doesn’t know where the cub is. D. She is busy protecting the other cub.
49. How is the little leopard when he is rescued?
A. He has a high fever. B. He is badly injured.
C. His heart beats too fast. D. His body loses too much water.
50. How does the cub reunite with his mom?
A. He is put where he was left and found by his mom.

Cruise ships, which sometimes carry as many as 5,000 passengers and workers, are like cities that travel across our seas. Cities produce a lot of rubbish, and so do cruise ships. But the rubbish from cities can be collected and taken away; this isn’t true for the rubbish on cruise ships.
On a one-week voyage (航程), cruise ships create more than 50 tons of rubbish and one million gallons of what is called “grey water”—that is, water from bathrooms, kitchens and washing machines. There is also 210,000 gallons of toilet waste. Most of this rubbish is send into the sea—some of it has been treated to make it safe, but some has not. This pollution kills some fish, or makes them dangerous for humans to eat as they have eaten polluted weeds and smaller fish in the sea. Pollution from cruise ships causes a problem for everything that lives in the sea, and that problem is sometimes passed on to humans, because they eat seafood.
Plastic waste that may be thrown off ships and then floats on the surface of the water is extremely (非常地) dangerous for creatures like dolphins, turtles and sea birds. These creatures often die from eating bags and other items made of plastic.
There are organizations which are trying to protect the seas of the world. They are working with governments in different countries to try to change the rules that govern (管控) what can and cannot be put into the sea. Let’s hope something is done to stop the pollution of our seas before it’s too late.

A. Cruise ships are not big ships. B. Cruise ships create small amount of rubbish.
C. The rubbish from ships do harm to sea creatures. D. The rubbish from ships doesn’t include plastic waste.
50. What are some organizations trying to do?
A. To change the rules to protect the sea. B. To change the rules all by themselves.

Sport is full of wonderful moments, but perhaps nothing is as exciting as the finish of the marathon. It is the longest, hardest race of all. The name “marathon” comes from a village in Greece. A famous battle was fought there in the year 490 B. C. When the Greeks had beaten the Persians, a soldier ran all the way from Marathon to Athens-more than 40 kilometres to tell people the good news. I am an author, magazine writer, filmmaker and public speaker. I'm self-employed, which means I work for myself and I do what I love. We have a popular saying in America which goes, "Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life." But I'm here to tell you that instead of focusing on doing what we love. I think we should focus on loving what we do.
In my line of work, you hear a lot about talent, which is an idea we've mostly invented to give ourselves an excuse to be lazy. Here is why: If you see someone doing something really well, you would say it's because they are talented. You think they are somehow special. You ignore the great amount of work they've done to get to where they are. Research has shown that talent is nothing without hard work. I choose to believe in hard work, but not so much in talent. There are no special people, just people who put in enough hard work until something special happens. I can promise you one thing: whatever you choose to do for a career, if you work hard at it, eventually, special things happen. They may not happen as quickly as you'd like them to, and they may turn out to be completely different from the special things you imagined at the beginning, but they will happen.

A. He studies film-making. B. He owns a magazine.
C. He works for himself. D. He is employed by a company.

51. According to the speaker, nothing special happens ________.
A. without working hard B. without talent
C. without doing what one loves D. without focusing on something special
【答案】47. C 48. B 49. A 50. B 51. A
【解析】
47.正确答案是:C. He works for himself.
在文章第一段中提到:“I'm self-employed,which means I work for myself and I do what I love.”,即“我是自由职业者,这意味着我为自己工作,做我喜欢的事情。”因此,C选项“他为自己工作”是正确的。
48.正确答案是:B. loving the work they do
在第一段中,作者提到“我认为我们应该专注于热爱我们所做的事情”,因此他建议观众应该热爱他们所做的工作。因此,B选项“热爱他们的工作”是正确的答案。
49.正确答案是:A. hard work more than talent

Mice in general are not well-liked, but a mouse named Mickey has won the hearts of millions. Movies about Mickey Mouse have been popular with audiences almost everywhere for more than
forty years.
Walt Disney, who created this lovable cartoon character, was born in Chicago in 1901. Later this family moved to a farm near Kansas City, where Walt worked for a time as a newsboy. But what he finally really enjoyed was drawing pictures.
When Walt went back to Chicago, he studied cartooning at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. His education was interrupted when World War I began in 1914. Though he was not yet old enough to join the army, he wanted to help in some way. He joined the Red Cross and went to France. where he stayed until the war was over.
After the war, Disney returned to Kansas City to work for a company that made fairy story cartoons. This was the kind of work he liked best. He made up his mind to find better ways of making the cartoon move, so that the cartoon characters would seem alive. He bought an old movie camera and made a few films in his garage. In 1923, he joined his old brother, Roy, in Hollywood, California, where they soon set up their own company.
Disney’s first successful creation was Mickey, a clean mouse right from the start. Perhaps this is one reason why those who disliked real mice often love Mickey. Sound was just starting to be used in movies, and Disney believed it had great possibilities. He quickly added sound to his cartoons. When he made Mickey Mouse talk on the movie screen, audiences were delighted. Mickey Mouse became a great success with the young and the old.
Mickey was followed by Donald Duck, Pluto the dog, and the Three Little Pigs in short films that brought laughter to children and adults around the world. According to Disney, these newer animal characters were created because there were certain things Mickey could not do. People wrote angry letters to Disney if Mickey did something wrong. What is exactly a lie? Is it anything we say which we know is untrue? Or is it something more than that? If we take a close look at successful language learners, we may discover a few techniques which make language learning easier for them.
First of all, successful language learners are independent learners. They do not depend on books or teachers; they discover their own way to learn the language. Instead of waiting for the teacher to explain everything, they try to find the patterns and the rules for themselves. They are good guessers who look for clues and form their own conclusions.
Successful language learning is active learning. Therefore, successful learners do not wait for a chance to use the language; they look for such a chance. They find people who speak the language and ask these people to correct them when they make a mistake. They will try anything to communicate. When communication is difficult, they can accept information that is neither exact nor complete. It is more important for them to learn to think in the language than to know the meaning of every word.

Do you remember a time when people were a little nicer and gentler with each other? I certainly do. And I feel that much of the world has somehow gotten away from that. Too often I see people rushing into elevators without giving those inside a chance to get off first, or never saying "thank you" when others hold a door open for them. We get lazy and in our laziness we think that something like a simple "thank you" doesn't really matter. But it can matter a lot.
The fact is that no matter how nicely we dress or how beautifully we decorate our homes, we can't be truly elegant(优雅的) without good manners, because elegance and good manners always go hand in hand. In fact, I think of good manners as a sort of hidden beauty secret. Haven't you noticed that the kindest, most generous people seem to keep getting prettier? It's funny how that happens, but it does. Take the long lost art of saying "thank you", like wearing a little make-up, or making sure your hair is neat. Getting into the habit of saying "thank you" can make you feel better about yourself. Good manners add to your image, while an angry face makes the best
dressed person look ugly.
47. What does the author say about people of the past?
A. They were nicer and gentler.
B. They paid more attention to their appearance.
C. They were willing to spend more money on clothes.
D, They were more aware of changes in fashion.
48. In the author's opinion, saying "thank you" is something that ▲ .
A. doesn't really matter B. does matter a lot
C. does not matter at all D. matters a little
49. The author thinks people seem to have forgotten ▲ .
A. the art of saying "thank you" B. to wear a little make-up
C. to make sure their hair is neat D. to decorate their houses
50. According to the author. how can we best improve our image?
A. By decorating our homes. B. By putting on a little make-up.
C. By wearing fashionable clothes. D. By being kind and generous.
51. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The art of dressing.
B. The secret of staying pretty.

在文章第二段中提到“Take the long lost art of saying 'thank you',like wearing a little make-up,or making sure your hair is neat.”,意思是“就像化妆或确保你的头发整洁一样,说‘谢谢’这门久已失传的艺术也是如此。”因此,作者认为人们似乎已经忘记了说“谢谢”的艺术,选项A是正确答案。

When the modern Olympic Games were started in 1896, the organizers knew the story. The marathon has been a race since then.
In the ancient world the Olympics were held every 4 years for 1000 years. They were an important part of life. In the modern Games we try to copy their ideas. The finest sportsmen in the world are collected in one place-or at least, the finest “amateurs” are. An amateur is someone who does not earn any money from sport. It is often difficult to say who is amateur and who is not. It is true that Olympic athletes are often students or teachers of a sport. They have to spend a lot of time training. Their governments pay for their training, travel and “pocket money” because they want them to win. Some people think that this changes the Olympics.

A. By decorating our homes. B. By putting on a little make-up.
C. By wearing fashionable clothes. D. By being kind and generous.

A. The art of dressing.
B. The secret of staying pretty.
