Generation Z makes up the majority of college students. Just as the Millennials (千禧一代) before them, this generation shifts the way learning happens in higher education. But the differences go beyond just greater dependence on technology. Generation Z is the driving force behind innovation (创新) in learning styles, tools and resources. And they’re proving that college is headed in the direction of a more learner-centered environment.
A study shows today’s students refuse to be passive learners. They aren’t interested in simply showing up for class and taking notes that they’ll memorize for an exam later on. Instead, they want a fully immersive (沉浸式的) educational experience and they even enjoy the challenges of being part of it. 51% of the Gen Z’ers surveyed said they learned best by doing while only 12% said they learned through listening.
And as “digital” generation, Generation Z expects digital learning tools to be deeply integrated into their education. Technology has always been seen in every part of their lives. They don’t think education should be any different and believe they should be able to connect academic experiences to personal experiences through these same tools. Additionally, these learning tools should be available on demand. For them, learning isn’t limited to just the classroom. It’s something that can take place at anytime, anywhere.
Finally, access to unlimited new information has created a more self-supporting and career-driven generation. In fact, 13% of Gen Z’ers already have their own business. And many are even taking this spirit to drive changes in college courses, as they show a strong interest in designing their own learning path in college. For those who haven’t started one quite yet, early preparation is still key. Actually, nearly half of high school students have taken at least one class that counts as college credit.

When you have to meet someone from a different culture, be prepared. If you understand cultural differences, you’ll be a better communicator—even before you open your mouth!
In many Western cultures, men stand up before they are introduced to someone important. Standing up shows politeness and respect. After that, someone will usually offer to shake hands. But in the East, typical introductions often begin and end with bowing rather than shaking hands.
Now, let’s look at the simple introduction of shaking hands. Americans like a firm handshake. But the French prefer a light, short handshake. If you shake a Frenchman’s hand the American way, he may think you’re uncultured.
People in Eastern European countries and some Latino cultures prefer shorter handshakes, too. Hugging after shaking hands is also a common introduction. Don’t be scared or offended if you meet someone in Brazil and he gives you a hug. If you misinterpret this gesture, your friendship may not start well!
The proper customs for eye contact vary between cultures, too. Westerners appreciate regular eye contact during conversations. Refusing to look a Westerner in the eye may be understood as lack of trust, or maybe boredom. But in some African countries, too much eye contact can offend or sometimes have romantic meanings. Some people in Middle Eastern countries may appear to have their eyes half-closed while talking to you. Although it might seem like they’re tired or bored, such behavior is normal and should not be taken personally.

There are a few ways to improve your concentration and recall skills.
The first thing to do is make sure you get the information correct the first time. It is very difficult to obtain bad information, and then replace it with the correct information. Pay attention to the speaker carefully so that you get everything right the first time.
Next, make sure that you understand what you are trying to remember. If you do not have any concept as to what something means, you are going to have a very difficult time recalling the information. If you do not understand something the first time, go over the information again until it is thoroughly understood.
Also, being selective can help you recall information. Instead of trying to recall the entire conversation that you had with a business partner, concentrate on trying to remember the important joints. The less information that you have to remember, the easier it will be to recall it at a later point.
Concentrate on what is important, and try to test yourself as you move forward. If you are reading a book and want to remember the main theme of every page, test yourself at the end. This will let you know if you have fully understood the page. If you have trouble recalling the information, read it again.
Finally, remember to write down everything that you have memorized. The second that you leave a meeting or classroom you may want to translate your memory onto paper. This way you can repeatedly study the information at a later date.

The most important thing that leads to success is what you do every day. Your habits will decide whether you are successful or not. If you have positive habits, you will succeed in the long term. On the other hand, if you have negative habits, you will fail in the long term. It does not matter whether you succeed today or not.
Why are habits so important? A positive action will not change your life, but the same action repeated 1,000 times will have a great effect on your life. For example, if you go to the gym one time, you won’t see any differences. However, if you go there for exercise 1,000 times over a five-year period, you will see a big difference in your body. The same is true of health, relationships, work, and school.
How to develop positive habits? There’s nothing easier than developing positive habits. You simply have to do it every day. If you want to develop the habit of reading, read every day. Habits are created by repetition. The more you do an action, the easier it becomes in the long run.
How to get rid of negative habits? You can destroy negative habits only by stopping them. If you are a smoker, stop smoking. Yes, it will be very difficult at the beginning. The first week will be very hard. After three weeks, you will feel a lot better. It’s hard to get rid of negative habits because you got a lot of pleasure from these habits in the past.
You can do it! Everybody can change. All it takes is courage and determination. Take action right now! Don’t be afraid. Yes, you will probably make mistakes along the way. But never forget that success is waiting for you if you have positive habits in your life. If you refuse to give up, success will be yours.

Before you could open your mouth to learn to say something in your first two years on the earth, inner voice helps you understand things. Inner voice always shows thoughts and ideas in the body.
It justifies what is right and what is wrong. When we go against inner voice, we usually feel uncomfortable throughout our lives.
Sometimes when we are feeling sad, we seem to need some kind of support in spirit. We usually speak to our closest friend or our dearest family member during times of unhappiness to feel better. After talking to them, we suddenly feel active again, because our inner voice reminds us to get on with things and leave the things of the past in the memory.
Inner voice is always right most of the time, because it knows us better than others and even ourselves. It’s good to go by inner voice most of the time. Whenever you are trying to smoke, or whenever you are asked to decide on one side in an argument, you are always worried about the result. During these times, your inner voice tells you what to do. If you don’t follow your inner voice, you might be unhappy in the future. It’s our own choice to either pay no attention to our inner voice or follow it and seek real happiness.

Stress is what you feel when you are worried too much about something. This worry in your mind can make your body feel bad. You may feel angry, sad, scared, or afraid—all of which can give you a stomachache or a headache. Actually, there are two kinds of stress.
Some kind of stress is good. Good stress might happen when you're called to answer questions in class or when you have to give a speech. This kind of stress can help you get things better done. For example, you may do a better job on your test if the stress pushes you to prepare better before the test.
On the other hand, bad stress can happen if the stress lasts too long. You may not feel well if your parents are fighting. if a family member is badly ill, if you're having problems at school, or if anything else makes you unhappy every day. That kind of stress isn't going to help you. And it can actually make you sick.
The best way to fight bad stress is to have a balanced life. Make sure you keep them in mind: seep, exercise. leisure(休闲) and food. If you get enough sleep and cat properly, and if you exercise and leave time for fun, you'll probably feel less stressed.

Today our knowledge of food and what it does for our bodies is far more advanced than that of the old times. Now we know about vitamins and how each kind of vitamin helps in the growth of a particular part of our body. There are on the market all kinds of vitamins which one can take to make up for one’s lack of certain important things that are needed for good health. Of course, if we eat well and properly, the food we eat will take care of our body and so there is no need to take any kind of vitamins unless our doctor tells us that our bodies are short of something that can be supplied by them.
Generally speaking, everything we eat does some good to our body, but if we eat too much of one kind of food and pay too little attention to others, we may have too much of one kind and not enough of others. Then we may be in trouble.
We are often told that we must eat some meat at each meal in order to get the necessary proteins. That is only partly true, for proteins are not found only in meat. We can also get them from some vegetables. The best advice about what to eat is that we should eat all kinds of food but never too much.

第七节 在本节中,你将读到一篇短文。根据所读内容,在短文后表格中的空格处填入一个恰当的词,并将答案写在答题卡上对应处。每空一词。
Ways to Improve Concentration and Recall Skills

Write down everything you've memorized

【答案】59.replace
60.it
61.than
62.Repeated
【解析】
59. 根据原文“It is very difficult to obtain bad information, and then replace it with the correct information.”可知,第一次获得错误的信息后,很难用正确的信息去替换它。因此,空格处需要填写一个与“替换”意思相近的词,即“replace”
60. 原文中提到“If you do not have any concept as to what something means, you are going to have a very difficult time recalling the information.”,这里的“you are going to have a very difficult time recalling the information”是一个结果状语从句,前面的从句是条件状语从句。在条件状语从句中,当主语与主句的主语相同时,且从句的谓语动词包含be动词时,从句的主语和be动词可以省略,留下“it”作为形式主语。因此,空格处应填写“it”,指代“you are going to have a very difficult time recalling the information”这件事。
61. 原文中提到“Instead of trying to recall the entire conversation that you had with a business partner, concentrate on trying to remember the important joints.”,这里使用了“instead of”来表示对比,即“不要尝试回忆整个对话,而是要集中精力记住重要的部分”。因此,空格处需要填写一个表示对比关系的词,即“than”。
62. 原文中提到“This way you can repeatedly study the information at a later date.”,这里的“repeatedly”表示“反复地、重复地”。

Internet shopping is a new way of shopping. You can shop for just about anything from your armchair. All you need is a computer which is linked to the Internet.
People can shop for different kinds of products on the Internet. Physical products include items such as books, CDs, clothes and foods. You can also buy information products such as online news or magazine stories, or you can download computer software through the Internet. Services such as booking airline tickets, reserving hotels or renting cars are also available on the Internet. You can also go shopping on the Internet for entertainment services such as online games or e-mail "chat".
To find something on the Internet, people often use powerful computer tools called "search engines". You can search for a type of product, such as sports shoes, or a brand name, such as Nike. The search engine will give you a list of websites where you can find these products. These websites may be brand shops such as a Nike shop, or they may be general stores, called malls, which sell a variety of goods.
The main disadvantage of Internet shopping is that you can not actually see the products you are buying or check their quality. Also, many people enjoy shopping in the city and miss the opportunity to talk to friends. Some people are worried about paying for goods by using credit cards, so Internet companies are now finding ways to make online payment safe.
Internet shopping is sure to become more and more popular in the years ahead. It promises to change the way we buy all kinds of things - from tonight's dinner to a new car.
