(Text 1)
W: Excuse me, but I’m lost. I’m trying to find the Natural History Museum. Do you know how to
get there?
M: Sure. Get on Bus 42. When you get to 32nd Street, get off. The museum is next to the Central
Bank. You can’t miss it.
(Text 2)
W: Mr. Hooper needs those parts for the machine by September the seventh.
M: Well, it’s already the fifth today... but wait... it’s OK. They will be sent out tomorrow.
W: Great. He’ll certainly get them on time then.
(Text 3)
M: I think there’s a mistake in our bill. We didn’t have dinner here last night.
W: I’m sorry, sir. Here’s the bill from the hotel restaurant. It’s got your signature on it.
M: But that’s not my signature. I’d like to speak to your manager.
(Text 4)
M: Darling. We really must go to the travel agency and book our holiday.
W: Yes. You’re right. But where do you want to go?
M: How about New York?
W: OK. But July’s always a very popular time for holidays. So we’d better hurry.
(Text 5)
M: Hi, Anne. It’s Tom here. Are you busy?
W: Not really. I did my homework as soon as I got home from school and I’m listening to music at
the moment to wait for a TV program I want to see.
(Text 6)
M: Maggie, I saw you on the news last night. That was really exciting.
W: Thank you.
M: Did you have a lot of fun?
W: Yes. I won a music competition. The prize was a trip to the television station. Then I got to
perform the song I wrote. What did you think of the song?
M: I thought it was very beautiful, but I didn’t know you wrote it. I thought it was written by a
famous singer. Very impressive, Maggie! Do you have plans to be a singer?
W: I will just keep singing and see what happens. Even if I never become famous, this is what I
love to do every hour of every day.
M: That’s very admirable.
(Text 7)
M: Are you feeling all right, Mary? You look pretty tired.
W: My sister and I had a birthday party for Jane last night. After that I was busy with another thing.
I didn’t get much sleep.
M: Where did you have the party and why were you so busy?
W: It was in the classroom. Then, right after the party. I had to start typing a history paper that was
due first thing this morning. I was kind of nervous because the professor said he wouldn’t
accept any late paper.
(Text 8)
M: City of Nutley, Department of Parks and Recreation.
W: Yes, this is Mrs. Spatafora with Balentine Construction Company. We’re putting together an
outdoor company event, and I was wondering, may I reserve a barbecue area and the big picnic
tables at Lake Park for the July 4th holiday weekend?
M: It’s a bit late to call, isn’t it?
W: Yes, so sorry. But we’re not talking about the Monday holiday, here... it’s Saturday we had in
mind. We need it all day, really, from 9:00 a. m. until 6:00 p. m.
M: Err, the biggest area is already booked on both days, but if you don’t mind taking the smaller
tables and the barbecue area near the fish pond , then I can set you right up for Monday.
W: That would be so great! On second thought, Monday works better than Saturday. Thanks.
(Text 9)
W: Oh. I wish that bus would come. My feet are cold!
M: Have you been waiting long?
W: It feels like hours. But I’ve probably only been here for ten minutes.
M: That’s long enough. I hate winter.
W: So do I. And this morning, the sun was shining... even though they said we’d get some light
Rain.
M: Yeah. And the weather report said to expect only one or two inches of snow, but we’ve gotten
three inches this afternoon.
W: Remember last year when they said there would be four inches of snow, and we ended up with
four feet. If it’s really bad tomorrow, I’ll just work from home.
M: What do you do?
W: I’m a lawyer. My office is around the corner.
M: Oh, I know you. I work in the same building as you, in the travel agency next to the lobby.
Stop in and have a cup of coffee with me sometime.
W: OK. I wish I had a cup of coffee right now!
(Text 10)
Hi, my name is William Jenkins. I’m a life and relationship coach and the owner of New
York Dating Coach in New York City.
Now we’ll talk about making a good first impression. You only get one chance to do that,
right? A really great way to make a good first impression is to make eye contact and to show real
interest in the person you’re meeting. It’s important to remember their names. When you first meet
somebody, you should use their names during the conversation to let them know that you
remember their names.
You should also allow them to have the spotlight. You can share information about yourself,
but don’t control the conversation; it’s not all about you. Even if you’re the most interesting
person in the world, people want to talk about themselves too. So be a great listener, ask questions
and really make a point of getting to know the other person. And you know, people like to talk
about themselves. So if you let them do that, then they’re going to like you.
Finally, make sure you dress nicely and have good posture. Don’t be negative and don’t
complain; no one wants to hear your problems. Just be positive, be yourself and be a good listener.

kilometers) of runs, it’s the largest summer ski area in Europe and attracts professional skiers

故选 A。
根据第二段内容“Fortunately, as time went by, I discovered how to introduce

hand of friendship to others. I have learned to respect diversity, which turns out to be
particularly helpful in the real world.(幸运的是,随着时间的推移,我学会了如何向新的志
根据第二段画线词前一句“When I first began volunteering. I was very
nervous about meeting new people and being pushed outside of my comfort zone.(当我刚开始
根据最后一段中“It’s a great pity that many teenagers in my generation have
not had experiences similar to my own and therefore missed out on some of the important
lessons that can be learned in life.(非常遗憾的是我们这一代的许多青少年都没有类似我这
根据文章第一段“If you have gone to the cinema and watched the popular
movie “The Wandering Earth Ⅱ” recently, you might be impressed by the intelligent computer
MOSS. It can make the reasonable decision in the shortest time based on the given conditions.
In fact, such strong AI like MOSS does not exist in reality for the time being.(如果你最近去电
However, weak AI, which replaces human processing in a specific
field, has already influenced our daily life.(然而,在特定领域取代人类处理的弱人工智能已
根据文章第二段“Compared with traditional search engines, which display
simple result according to searching keywords, ChatGPT can interact with people just like
dialoguing, answer professional questions, and also answer follow-up questions.(与传统搜索

to do on robustness(稳健性)and truthfulness.”(就连 OpenAI的首席执行官也曾说过:“现
根据文章第二段“Compared with traditional search engines, which display
simple results according to searching keywords, ChatGPT can interact with people just like
dialoguing, answer professional questions, and also answer follow-up questions.(与传统搜索
More than a Chatbot, ChatGPT can also realize
article creation, code generating and other functions only by requesting.(ChatGPT不是一个聊
根据第 2段“The symptoms listed by the WHO include a lack of control over
gaming, treating gaming more seriously than other life interests and daily activities”可知,世
故选 A项。
“Gentile thinks medical organizations should pay attention to the WHO’s proposal... it’s all
根据第五段“he hoped the WHO’s proposal would lead to more research into
obsessive(过度的)behavior among all types of people”可知,Levounis 希望世卫组织的提

My mind was playing Pingpong. His old and black shoes flashed through my mind. But my
gaze again fell on the brand new Penny Loafers. I was fascinated by these gleaming shoes and
couldn’t take my eyes off them. I was about to spend all my ten dollars on them when I recollected
Dad’s worn-out shoes. The gleam of the loafers started to dull. I took shoes of my dad’s size from
the clearance rack and ran to the checkout counter.
I ran back to the shop and put Dad’s new shoes on the seat in his car. The moment we got in
the car Dad picked up the box. When he opened it he just stared without saying a word. A mixture
of guilt and delight came from the bottom of my heart. He looked first at the shoes and then at me.
“I thought you need a new pair of shoes more than I do.” I broke the silence. Dad put his hand on
my shoulder and we sat looking at each other for a moment. Nothing else was said. Dad started the
car and we went home.

It is often said that high school is one of the most important stages as an individual will
experience, and is often seen as a critical and life-shaping time.During this period, people often
begin to discover what is meaningful to them and how they plan to continue living their life.
Volunteering at St.Clare's Hospital has helped me form this positive experience during my high
school years.
When I first began volunteering,I was very nervous about meeting new people and being
pushed outside of my comfort zone. The beginning of my volunteer experience I was rather timid
and not very outgoing.Fortunately,as time went by,I discovered how to introduce myself to
new volunteers,to go out of my way to make patients feel welcome, and to extend the hand of
friendship to others.I have learned to respect diversity, which turns out to be particularly helpful
in the real world.
My volunteering experience at the hospital has led me to believe that my love and sympathy
for the sick can brighten up the day of those lonely patients. There is another valuable lesson
I have learned from the volunteer program:The significance of "service"involves making a
difference in the lives of others and contributing to the community. Now I feel content each time
I finish my shift. This positive feeling has motivated me to continue carrying on this worthwhile
cause, and has become something that I view as having irreplaceable importance to my life.
It's a great pity that many teenagers in my generation have not had experiences similar to
my own and therefore missed out on some of the important lessons that can be learned in life.
Knowing that I made a positive impact on someone is an emotionally uplifting experience that
can never be matched by money or fame. And,to the best of my ability,I will follow this path of
service throughout my life.
24.What does the author say about high school?
A.It deserves to be taken seriously.
B.It is often criticized by people.
C.It brings no significance to life.

and generate comments for code just like a professional programmer. It also presented strong
capacity in content continuation, literary creation, music creation, etc. It is so powerful that New
York City public schools have banned it from their networks and school devices.

to be relying on it for anything important right now. It's a preview of progress. We have lots of
work to do on robustness(稳健性)and truthfulness.”

The World Health Organization recently said hat it planned to add gaming disorder(
)to its new list of disease classifications, angering the gaming industry but pleasing doctors
who hope it may make treatment more easily available.
Some US experts said it would make little difference when it comes to helping people with

result in significant damage to one's personal, family,or social life,"the WHO said.
Meanwhile,Douglas Gentile of lowa State University has carried out influential research
into the cause of gaming addiction in young people."I and many others had assumed that gaming
is not really a problem but is a symptom of other problems,"he told NBC News. Many had
thought it was simply a failure of self-control.
To see if it was.Gentile's team studied a group of children who had been gaming for several
years."We found that when kids became addicted, their anxiety increased..and their grades
decreased,"Gentile said. When kids were able to back off from gaming, their symptoms
disappeared,he added.Gentile thinks medical organizations should pay attention to the WHO's
proposal."This isn't an issue of opinion;it's all issue of science,"he said."This is a major
scientific and medical organization. They don't do things lightly and without reason."
Dr Petros Levounis.chair of psychiatry at the New Jersey Medical School at Rutgers
University.said that he hoped the WHO's proposal would lead to more research into obsessive
(过度f的)behavior among all types of people.“Now,there is renewed interest and excitement,."”
he said.

A.Putting games before everything else.
B.Keeping playing until winning the games.

Keeping up seemed so important when I was a teenager.Back in 1973,if you weren't
wearing Penny Loafers(you'd just as soon go around in your bare feet. There was only
one problem that year,I had bought Oxfords-but Penny Loafers came into fashion.
"I need some money for Penny Loafers."I told my dad one afternoon at the place where he
worked as a car mechanic.
Dad looked at me for a full minute before he answered,"Wear those shoes one more day.
Look at every pair of shoes you see at school. If you can tell me that you are worse off than the
other kids,I'll buy new shoes for you."
The next day,I did what Dad said.I saw many schoolmates wore torn shoes of the likes I'd
never had to wear, and shoes with holes in them, but I had no intention of telling him the results.
When school was out,I rushed to the place where Dad worked. It was quiet.Only an
occasional clank()of metal could be heard as Dad worked under a car. Then dad's shoes
came into my sight. They were old and black, the kind mechanics and service-station attendants
wore.I saw the mended soles()and the spliced laces.
“You do what I told you today?”
“Yes.sir."
"Well, what do you want to do?"He looked as though he might know what my answer would
be.
"I still want the Penny Loafers."I forced myself not to look at his shoes.
Dad handed me ten dollars.I took the money and went to the store two blocks down the
street.A rack()on a far wall appeared as if it had a million pairs of black Penny Loafers
resting on it.On a rack next to it was a sign that reads "CLEARANCE 50%OFF".Below the
sign sat several "young"versions of Dad's shoes.
