Step 2 Pre-reading Look at the title and picture and predict: Where did Alice and He Wei go to at Fun Times Park? Did they enjoy this experience? Step 3 While-reading Fast reading Read the passage quickly and match the main ideas with each scene. Scene 1 Decide on which ride to try first. Scene 2 Talk about riding and eating. Scene 3 Find out something special about a restaurant. Scene 4 Ask the time of the rock band. Careful reading 1. Read scene 1 and answer the questions: Why did Alice not want to go on the new ride? What did He Wei suggest if Alice was scared? 2. Read scene 2 and answer the questions: How did Alice feel after the ride? Where will they go ? 3. Read scene 3 and fill in the blanks. On their way to Water City Restaurant, Alice and He Wei passed by Uncle Bob’s. It looks interesting. There is a rock band plays every evening. He Wei suggested to ask what time the band started playing. 4. Read scene 4 and true or false the sentences. The band starts playing at seven o’clock every evening. Alice and He Wei didn’t get there early because the restaurant is hardly ever busy for dinner. Step 4 Post-reading 1. Read the conversation and answer the questions below.(3a) Why did Alice not want to go on the new ride? How did she feel after the ride? What is special about Uncle Bob’s restaurant? Should Alice and He Wei get there early for dinner? Why? 2. Underline the questions or statements in the conversation that ask for information. Rewrite them in a different way.(3b) 3. Translate the key words and phrases. Step 5 Summary Let students try to retell the passage and draw a mind map. Step 6 Homework 1. Retell the passage with your partner. 2.
