On March 9, 2023, Kiska, known as “the loneliest whale in the world,” died at 47. She had swum alone in her tank (玻璃缸) at a theme park in Canada for more than ten years.
Kiska was born in 1976. At the age of three, she was captured in Iceland along with a male (雄性的) whale named Keiko. They were soon transported (运输) to Canada. The pair lived together for a few years at a local theme park. In 1985, Keiko was sold to an aquarium (水族馆) in Mexico. He became famous for playing a leading role in the movie Free Willy in 1993. He was later released (释放) back to the ocean.
Kiska, however, wasn’t that lucky. She never got a chance to return home. During her time at the theme park, she gave birth to five babies. Sadly, all of them died before they turned seven years old. Electricity plays an important part in our daily life. Without electricity, people can’t work, cook, or watch TV. The traffic lights on the streets also stopped working.
Blackouts (停电) can happen at any time. So, it’s important to be prepared for a blackout. Here are a few tips for you.
◇Keep a flashlight (手电筒) and some batteries (电池) in every room of your home. Sure, your smartphone has a flashlight. However, if a blackout lasts for a few hours, you might want to save that phone charge for other use.
◇Keep some candles and matches, but be careful while using them. You can never be too careful with fire.
◇Keep some food that doesn’t need cooking and has a long shelf life (保质期). Canned food would work well here. Also, remember to keep some bottled water at home.
◇If your family has medicine that needs to be kept cold, make sure you have some ice packs ready. Put them along with the medicine in your fridge. When a blackout hits, only open your fridge when you need the medicine—the cold air inside escapes each time it’s opened.
◇Know your neighborhood well. During a blackout, your air conditioning (空调) will be out. Make sure you know the air-conditioned places (such as convenience stores). If it gets dangerously hot or cold, you can go there.
63.How many tips are there in the passage?

Part of Earth’s beauty comes from its oceans. Ocean scientists study the chemical make up of the ocean, weather patterns, the geography of the ocean floor, and many other areas. Their work is exciting, although sometimes dangerous. Using technology to do certain tasks helps. For example, robotic arms are used for very dangerous tasks.
One basic part of ocean study is understanding waves and how they work. Wind is the great maker of waves. The waves we know are mostly produced by winds blowing over the sea. They are directly connected with the wind speed and the time that wind lasts.
Sometimes ocean life can be seen in the wave. Living things seem to be staying within the wave, moving slowly inside it as if they were weightless. Besides the beauty of waves, scientists are interested in their technical ways. The diagram of waves shows how scientists examine waves. Waves are measured (测量) from the top (crest) to the bottom (trough). This allows scientists to find out the height of a wave. They also measure waves from crest to crest to determine (测定) the length of a wave.
During serious storms, huge waves might cut a sea ship apart. Ships are at great risk of winding up as broken pieces after being hit by the force of a huge wave. By understanding the ocean, scientists can prevent this breakup of ships by predicting when the water will be too dangerous for people and their ships. The study of waves and the ocean also allows scientists to make sure how certain beaches were formed. By studying the oceans, a great deal can be learned about the surface we live on.
66.What can we learn from the second paragraph?
A.Waves can make wind. B.Most waves are produced by winds.
C.Scientists make most waves. D.Waves have nothing to do with wind.
67.What is the meaning of “the length of a wave” according to paragraph 3?
A.The beauty of huge waves.
B.The technical way to study the sea.
C.The distance from crest to crest of a wave.
D.The distance from the top to the bottom of a wave.
68.Which of the following statements are right according to the passage?
①Scientists can decide the weather patterns.
②We can’t find living things in the waves.
③By studying the ocean, scientists can prevent the breakup of ships.
④The study of waves helps scientists know how certain beaches were formed.
A.①③ B.②④ C.③④ D.②③
69.Where is the passage probably from?
A.A diary. B.A fairy tale.
C.A travel guide. D.A science magazine.

How to Stay Safe from the Novel Coronavirus(新冠病毒)?
Preventing and controlling the outbreak of the novel coronavirus is becoming more and more important. Here are some simple precautions(预防措施)to help stay away from the virus.
The virus can be spread from person to person. The disease has an incubation(潜伏)period of two weeks. At present, there is no special treatment for the disease caused by 2019-nCoV. So it is very important to stay away from gatherings.
Wearing medical masks in a correct way is of use to protect you from the coronavirus. You should wear masks in subways, buses, or in a supermarket. Wash hands before eating, after toilet, coming home. When washing hands, use running water and soap, with no less than 15 seconds for cleaning hands. If you need to pick up other people’s cell phones or use other people’s computer keyboards, don’t touch your face at once before washing hands.
If you share meals, do not use your personal chopsticks or spoons to get food from a serving bowl or plate. Place serving spoons(公勺)in each dish and get what you want from the serving dishes onto your personal plates or bowls, put the serving spoon back to the main dish, and then use your personal chopsticks only to pick food from your personal plate or bowl into your mouth.

Kiska’s final tank mate was sent back to the United States in 2011. From then on, she was left alone. This earned (赢得) her the nickname “the world’s loneliest whale”.

A.Three. B.Four. C.Five. D.Six.
64.When a blackout happens, the writer mention (提到) all the followings EXCEPT _______.

B.It’s important to know how to use fire.
C.You can never use fire if you are careless.
D.The more careful, the better when you use fire.

Keep a situation from getting worse
Sometimes, if a person doesn’t get first aid in time, his or her situation will get worse soon. If you give him or her simple care, you will help him or her feel better and keep things from getting worse.

If these simple precautions are taken by everybody, it will not be difficult to prevent and control the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

Kiska’s final tank mate was sent back to the United States in 2011. From then on, she was left alone. This earned (赢得) her the nickname “the world’s loneliest whale”.
Kiska’s death came four years after Canada banned (禁止) the practice of keeping whales in captivity (圈养地). However, there are still at least 55 captive whales across the world. What should we do with them?

A.Three. B.Four. C.Five. D.Six.
