How do you go to school every day? Have a look at the ideas at www.stpaulhs.org.
I like taking the bus. It doesn’t cost a lot. It usually takes me more than half an hour to get to school, but I only need to pay one yuan for the journey.
—Anna
There are always a lot of people on the bus. And it usually takes me a long time to wait for it. So my mum usually drives me to school. It’s also more comfortable and I can often read a book on the way.
—Linda
I agree with Linda. Taking the bus means we may wait for a long time. But I don’t like taking the car either. I can go anywhere on my bike. It’s the best and healthiest way of traveling.
—Bob
When you sit on the bus, you can read a book or listen to music. It’s relaxing and I always like it. If you worry about traffic jams, taking the underground is much better.
—Dan

(23-24八年级上·湖北黄石·期末)Now many people still go to work and school on buses, trains and bikes. However, some people dream of a day when they can fly in the sky.
In Singapore, a company (公司) has showed a flying taxi. If some people traveled in flying taxis, there would be fewer cars on the roads. It could be less crowded. In the 3d space (三维空间) of the sky, cars could move around each other without bridges or roads. The taxis could also take off and arrive on rooftops. That can save parking (停车) space on the ground (地面). And flying is fun. It’s cool to fly in the sky every day on the way to work.
However, there are quite a few reasons why people don’t need flying cars. A famous scientist has a rocket company and a car company. It seems that he can make flying cars, but he said, “If the sky was full of flying cars, it would be noisier. Something might fall on people’s heads more easily. Those are not good things.”
He thinks it’s much better to build lots of tunnels (隧道) underground. What do you think of it? Are flying cars or taxis a good idea? Shall we find other ways to solve the traffic (交通) problems?

10.Which of the following is NOT true according to the text?
A.Some people dream of flying in the sky one day.
B.The roads will be less crowded if some people can travel in flying cars.

(23-24八年级上·河北沧州·期末)Do you know airships (飞艇) can fly like balloons? But they also have engines, so they can fly long distances (距离). In the 1920s and 1930s, airships carried passengers. They could fly from Europe to the U.S. in two days. That was much faster than a ship. The biggest airships had restaurants and bedrooms and carried more than 100 passengers. The airships of that time were not very safe, and many of them crashed. In 1937, a famous airship called the Hindenburg crashed near New York, and thirty-six people lost their lives. After that, passenger airships stopped flying. Planes became the most important air transportation because they were faster and safer.
Now many companies around the world are making airships again. They are much safer than the airships of the 1920s and 1930s. They are not for passengers, and they only carry goods (物品).
There are four main advantages (优势) in today’s airships:
*They don’t need airports. They can land in places where planes can’t.
*They can carry much more goods than planes can.
*They use much less (更少的) fuel than planes, so they are better for the environment.
*They can stay in the air for a long time, so they are good for the scientific work.
Today most goods still travel on planes, ships, trains and trucks. But in the future, a lot more goods could travel by airship because it is cheaper and better for the environment. Maybe there will be airships for passengers again too.
15.How does the writer begin the text (文章)?
A.By using a song. B.By asking a question. C.By telling a story. D.By giving numbers.

A.They were faster and safer. B.They were bigger and cheaper.
C.They flew higher and faster. D.They were lighter and bigger.

A.They can fly without fuel. B.They can take more passengers.
C.They can land on the moon. D.They are better for the environment.
19.What is the text mainly about?
A.The history of airships. B.The engines of airships.

(23-24八年级上·浙江杭州·期末)Imagine you are living in a moving house. Inside the house, there is a kitchen, a bathroom and a bedroom. Although they are much smaller than those at your home, they are easy for you to use.
Nowadays you can see these moving houses on the road in China. They are called recreational vehicles (RVs). People call them “houses on roads”. When it’s holiday time, the whole family will get into the small home and hit the road for a trip across the country.
Compared to a real house, this “home” on the road is useful for a family. The best thing is that you can do everything you like freely. You can drive as long as you like without worrying about finding hotels and restaurants. Or you can just stop somewhere nice and stay for a few weeks. You may also meet other families that are on road trips. Together, you put up your tents. It’s camping time with lots of talk and laughter.
However, RVs are not always convenient (方便的). They can sometimes break down and don’t work. You have to spend time fixing them. But many people still like this kind of vehicle because they can go anywhere they want whenever they want.
25.What is special in the RVs?
A.The rooms are as big as those at home.
B.The rooms are a lot smaller than those at home.
C.The rooms are much nicer than those at home.
D.The rooms are a little cheaper than those at home.
26.Why do people call the RVs “houses on roads”?
A.Because people can live in the RVs when they travel.
B.Because people can fix the RVs by themselves when they travel.
C.Because people can drive the RVs easily when they travel.
D.Because people can see the RVs in the streets when they travel.
27.What does the third paragraph mainly talk about?
A.The RVs can help people make more friends. B.The RVs can help people find the hotels.
C.The RVs can help people travel freely. D.The RVs can help people to cook food.
28.Who will probably buy an RV according to the passage?
A.Mr. Wang, a man who likes staying at home.
B.Mr. Li, a man who likes seeing films in the cinema.
C.Mr. Zhang, a man who likes talking with friends.
D.Mr. He, a man who likes traveling with his family.
(23-24八年级上·山东临沂·期末)How do your parents get to work? Walk? By bus? By train? Swim across a river? Believe it or not, the last one is a way of travel for people in some places.
In the city of Basel, Switzerland (瑞士), the Rhine River has become a famous swimming place and some people even use the river as a form of transportation. To get from point A to point B, people in Basel don’t simply jump into the water with their clothes on. They prepare waterproof (防水的) bag. Before they jump into the water, they go to the special houses by the river to put on bathing suits. What about the clothes? They put them into a “Wickelfisch”. It will keep everything dry in the water. Then they swim to work with the Wickelfisch. This has made the Wickelfisch become one of the popular things in Basel. You can find them on sale in lots of shops.
Basel isn’t alone in using the river for commute (通勤). There are also swimmers in Bern, Switzerland’s capital city. They have used the Aare River as a form of transportation, swimming along with waterproof bags. “It only takes me 30 seconds to walk from my office to the river,” Evelyn Schneider-Reyes, a local (当地的) woman, said. “I have an ‘Aare Bag’. I can put all my clothes, my smartphone, wallet and shoes in it. I put on my bathing suit and swim home. It is more convenient (便利的) and cheaper. I don’t need to spend money on the transportation.”
As we all know, some traditional forms of transportation like planes, trains, and cars make a lot of pollution. It’s not good for the environment. Perhaps it’s time for us to try some creative ways to travel around.
