With the development of technology, our city life is becoming more and more “smart”. Here are some great technologies that make our cities “smart”.
Sensors (传感器)
Sensors are like eyes in every corner of the city. They can see and feel things by collecting data (数据) on people and the environment.
Internet of things
It is like the blood vessels (血管) of a city, connecting everything to the Internet. Imagine when you are nearly home, and your smart watch can tell your home to turn on the lights. This can become a reality with the Internet of things.
5G
5G provides high-speed wireless Internet. It is what makes the Internet of things possible. The speed of 5G can be up to 10 GB per second. With such a speed, we can download a film in just a few seconds.
Artificial intelligence (AI)
AI can also help to deal with data. More importantly, it learns from the data and becomes a smart helper for us. AI can work as a delivery person, a tour guide, or even help design cars and make people’s work safer.
Online maps
Baidu Map and Gaode Map are two typical online maps. They help people find their way from one place to another. Some online maps can update real-time data on cities. With their help, people can find out the busiest road and plan the best route when traveling.

Spring will soon be upon us and a new term is here. All over the world spring is the season of new life: flowers bloom, baby animals are born, and the weather becomes warmer. During this time of year, people usually walk around with a spring in their steps and a feeling of fresh beginnings. However, for a fresh beginning it takes more than the bright colors and fresh air of spring. We need to look at ourselves, set new goals(目标), and decide how to improve ourselves.
In England ,people usually do this on the first day of the year. We look at the past year and think about what we' d like to change or improve in our lives, and we call this a New Year' s resolution(决心). These can be anything from improving one' s health through exercise or giving up bad habits, to studying harder for better grades or trying to find a good work or life balance.
Luckily, we don' t have to wait for the beginning of a new year to try and become better people. We can do this whenever we like. The milestone of a new term is just a good place to start.
Sometimes it' s difficult to take the first step in achieving newly set goals, but an old saying is "to begin is to be half-way there. " I agree with this because taking on a new task or changing habits can seem daunting at first, but once we begin, they get easier.
The trick(技巧)with deciding on a resolution for a new term is not to set unrealistic(不实际) goals. If we do this, it's easy to lose heart, because the final goal seems so far away. Try to make many small goals that you want to reach on the way to your final goal. This way, you can see your progress easily.
5. In Paragraph One, the writer wants to tell us that spring is a time _________.
A. to take a walk around outdoors B. to enjoy fresh air and bright colors
C. to set goals for a fresh beginning D. for animals to have babies
6. According to Paragraph Four, the writer agree with ________.
A. Be swift to hear, slow to speak. B. All that ends well is well.
C. Well begun is half done. D. All roads lead to Rome.
7. What does the underlined word "daunting" probably mean in Paragraph Four?
A. changeable B. difficult C. lovely D. dangerous
8. What does the writer want to tell us in the last paragraph?
A. If you see no progress, you'll be sad. B. Whatever happens, stick to your dreams.
C. Never lose heart when meeting with difficulties D. Your goals should be realistic and small.
根据“However, for a fresh beginning it takes more than the bright colors and fresh air of spring. We need to look at ourselves, set new goals(目标), and decide how to improve ourselves. ”可知,作者想告诉我们春天是一个为新的开始设定目标的时候。故选C。
6. 细节理解题。根据but an old saying is "to begin is to be half-way there. " I agree with this because taking on a new task or changing habits can seem daunting at first, but once we begin, they get easier. 可知,作者认为好的开始是成功的一半,故选C。
7. 词义猜测题。根据连词but前后表示转折关系,but后once we begin, they get easier表示容易,因此but前,表示困难。故选B。
8 推理判断题。根据“The trick(技巧)with deciding on a resolution for a new term is not to set unrealistic(不实际) goals. If we do this, it's easy to lose heart, because the final goal seems so far away. Try to make many small goals that you want to reach on the way to your final goal.”可知,你的目标应该既现实的又是小的目标。故选D。
C
Amy was a dear little girl, but she was always wasting time getting prepared to do her tasks, instead of doing them at once as she should do.
In the village, Mr Thornton kept a store where he sold fruits of all kinds, including berries when in season. One morning he said to Amy, “Well, Amy, I noticed some fine, ripe blackberries on Mr Green’s farm today. He said that anybody was welcome to them. I will pay you 13 cents a kilogram for all you pick for me.”
Amy was excited about the thought of making some money to help her mom, so she quickly ran home to get a basket to hold the berries. Then she thought she would like to know how much money she would get if she picked five kilograms. After finding out that she would get 65 cents, she started to dream big, “Supposing I should pick a dozen kilograms, how much should I make then?”
“Dear me,” she exclaimed, after calculating a while, “I should make a dollar and fifty-six cents!”
It took her some time to dream bigger, and then it was so near lunchtime that she had to stay at home until the afternoon.
As soon as lunch was over, she took her basket and hurried to the farm. Some boys had been there before lunch, and all the ripe blackberries were picked. She could not find half a kilogram to fill her basket. Then she thought of what her teacher often told her: “Do your task at once; then think about it. One doer is worth 100 dreamers.”
9. Why did Amy run home before going to pick blackberries?
A. To eat lunch. B. To look for a calculator.
C. To get a basket for the berries. D. To tell her mother about the offer.
10. What does the underlined word “exclaimed” show about Amy?
A. She was very surprised or excited. B. She shouted with anger.
C. She was disappointed with the money. D. She thought she was very clever.
11. What happened in the end?
A. Some boys came to help Amy pick berries.
B. The berries had been stolen before Amy arrived.
C. Amy earned a lot of money from selling berries.
D. Amy was too late to find any berries.
12. What lesson did Amy learn from it?
A. Daydreaming is a fun process. B. It is better to do than to dream.
C. Always get ready to do tasks. D. Competition is the key to success.
【答案】CADB
【解析】心动不如行动,一个实干家胜过百个梦想家
9.C 细节理解题。从第三段so she quickly ran home to get a basket to hold the berries.可知答案选C。
10.A 推断题。从“Dear me,” she exclaimed,可知Amy激动和惊讶。答案选A
12.D 推断题. 因为拖延,Amy到达农场时,成熟的葡萄全部摘完了。所以She could not find half a kilogram to fill her basket.故答案D
13.B主旨大意题。从Amy梦想能赚到多少多少钱,到最后两手空空。说明行动比梦想更重要。最后One doer is worth 100 dreamers。点题。答案选B
D
①That future is almost here. “I think it’s going to happen. Definitely in ten years…and hopefully much, much faster,” said Sebastian Thrun in 2021. At that time, his young company Kitty Hawk Corporation was working on developing a flying car known as eVTOL, or Electronic Vertical Take-Off and Landing vehicle(车辆).
②Flying to work or school sounds unbelievable. Not only is it fun to fly, but “there would never be traffic again, because the sky is very, very large,” says Thrun. He also thinks eVTOLs could be greener than common cars. “We go much faster, we go in a straight line, we fly on less energy,” he says.
③So far, though, flying cars haven’t taken off as a product. Will their day come? There are still many problems to solve. Their high price means most people won’t be able to afford one. So, some companies are developing them as air taxis that people could pay to ride. The main problem with flying cars is safety. Accidents in the air are dangerous to both the passengers and anyone on the ground beneath. To make eVTOLs safer, many developers are aiming to make them self-flying—no human pilot required.
④Another problem is space. Most aircraft need long runways to take off and land. Lifting straight up and down like a helicopter solves this problem. But eVTOLs still need special spaces, called vertiports, for take-off and landing. Finding places to put these could be tricky, especially in crowded cities. But maybe some could go on top of buildings.
⑤What do you think? Would you enjoy riding to school or to visit a friend in a self-flying taxi? Are flying cars a good idea, or should we find other ways to get around in the near future?
13. What is Sebastian Thrun’s opinion about the future of flying cars?
A. He thinks it will never happen.
B. He thinks it will happen in the next century.
C. He is not sure about the future of flying cars.
D. He believes it will happen in ten years and faster.
14. Why are some companies developing flying cars as air taxis?
A. To solve safety problems. B. To make them cheaper.
C. To provide rides for people. D. To compete with common cars.
15. What is the possible structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
16. What is probably the best title of the passage?
A. Is a Flying Car Your Dream Car? B. Will Future Flying Cars Need Drivers?
C. The Exciting World of Electric Taxis D. The History of Air Travel Technologies

阅读短文,然后根据内容回答问题。
Last month, I had to travel between Edinburgh and London for business. I had to change trains three times. The trains were old, slow, and not very comfortable, and the journey took more than 6 hours. When I arrived in the capital, I was too tired to work. But many people have to travel between these important cities, so why is the journey always so difficult?
Travel can be much easier. We could, for example, build a maglev (磁悬浮) train line to connect London and Edinburgh. Maglev trains use magnets (磁铁) to lift them above the ground, and can travel more than 500 kilometres an hour. They are not only fast, but also quite comfortable. Maglev trains are also good for the environment because they run on electricity.
One example of a maglev is in Shanghai. The Shanghai Maglev has been open since January 2001, and connects the Pudong International Airport to an underground station much closer to the centre of the city. Instead of having to wait for an expensive taxi or a crowded bus, people can now travel 30 kilometres in only around seven minutes. This makes travel fast, comfortable and convenient.
Although this is a short journey, a maglev train would do just as well for long-distance travel, such as the 535 kilometres between London and Edinburgh. Without question, maglev trains are the best way to improve travel around the country.
41. How did the writer travel between Edinburgh and London last month?
42. How fast can the maglev trains go an hour?
43. When did the Shanghai Maglev open?
44. Which would you like to choose for travelling between by train or by plane? Why? Write 30 words or more.
【答案】41. By train. 42. More than 500 kilometres an hour. 43. In January 2001. 44. By plane. Because the plane is the fastest mode of transportation. Passengers can complete long-distance travel in a few hours. Moreover, modern airplanes provide comfortable seats, personal entertainment systems and food and drinks. (答案合理即可)
【解析】本文主要介绍了磁悬浮列车的优点。
41. 根据“Last month, I had to travel between Edinburgh and London for business. I had to change trains three times.”可知,上个月作者乘坐火车在爱丁堡和伦敦之间旅行。故填By train.
42. 根据“Maglev trains use magnets (磁铁) to lift them above the ground, and can travel more than 500 kilometres an hour.”可知,磁悬浮列车的时速超过500公里。故填More than 500 kilometres an hour.
43. 根据“The Shanghai Maglev has been open since January 2001,”可知,上海磁悬浮列车自2001年1月开始运营,故填In January 2001.
44. 我喜欢乘坐飞机旅行,因为飞机是最快的交通工具。乘客可以在几个小时内完成长途旅行。此外,现代飞机还提供舒适的座椅、个人娱乐系统以及食品和饮料。故填By plane. Because the plane is the fastest mode of transportation. Passengers can complete long-distance travel in a few hours. Moreover, modern airplanes provide comfortable seats, personal entertainment systems and food and drinks.

四、阅读与表达(共4小题,41〜43小题,每题2分,44小题4分;满分10分)
