Who is “momo”? You may not have seen one in person, but you’ve more than likely met one online. On Xiaohongshu, Douban or other social medias, more and more people with the name “momo” and the picture of a dinosaur appear. As The Paper reported, the Internet make it hard for many people to see the boundaries between online and offline lives. Worrying about personal information being given away, being cyber-bullied by others or being afraid to show their feelings, people are not willing to speak up. “Hiding under the name of ‘momo’, I’m never worried that I will be found by people in my real life.” Coco Ding said.
As more and more “momos” have appeared on the Internet, a new online group has been set up. For example, on Douban there is a “momo” group with more than 8000 members. When I first started reading The Art of War by famous philosopher (哲学家) Sun Tzu, I really had no idea what I was getting into. To be honest, I just thought the title sounded cool.
As I was trying to read different types of books at the time, some Chinese philosophy like The Art of War sounded like a good choice. But as soon as I opened it and started reading, I was immediately confused. Why did so many people find this book interesting? Some sayings like “The skillful soldier does not raise a second levy, neither are his supply-wagons loaded more than twice” (善用兵者,役不再籍,粮不三载) didn’t make sense to me.
But like most philosophy, The Art of War should not be read and understood word by word. And after reading a bit more deeply, I found some interesting-ideas that I could put into my own life. For example, the saying “If the enemy leaves a door open, you must rush in” (敌人开阖,必亟入之) can mean to catch opportunities quickly and confidently before they disappear. I believe that the saying “The good fighters of old first put themselves beyond the possibility of defeat, and then waited for an opportunity of defeating the enemy” means to be well-prepared first and then wait to find a way to win in the competition.
It’s been a long time since I read the book but I still remember some of its lessons. It was interesting to look into ancient Chinese culture that is still useful today. It’s no wonder that so many business people around the world have read it over the years.
28. What makes the author want to read the book The Art of War?
A. The title. B. The philosopher. C. Other books. D. The sayings.
29. Which of the following is the correct Chinese translation of the underlined sentence?
A. 胜可知,而不可为。 B. 昔之善战者,先为不可胜,以待敌之可胜。
C. 不可胜在己,可胜在敌。 D. 故善战者,能为不可胜,不能使敌之不可胜。
30. Many business people like to read the book because ________.
A. it mirrors modern Chinese culture B. it is still useful today
C. it's a good book to learn about Chinese customs D. it is recommended by many famous people
31. According to the passage, the changes of the writer’s feelings may be “________”.
A. confused→cool→strange→useful B. cool→confused→interesting→useful
C. enjoyable→interesting→confused→cool D. strange→confused→interesting→useful

【30题详解】

With their long ivories, elephants look strong. However, they also make the animal endangered. Many of them are killed for their ivories. People make elephant ivories into crafts (工艺品) and jewelry and sell them to rich people.
But can these priceless (无价的) body parts grow back? The answer is no, Live Science said. This is because the elephants’ ivories are actually part of their teeth. Nearly all African elephants and most male Asian elephants have these long teeth. About one-third of the ivory is in the animal's skull (头骨). The ivory has a nerve (神经) running down its center. This makes it similar to your teeth. Once you lose a tooth, you will never grow a new one.
Elephants use their ivories to protect themselves, lift things, dig for water and collect food. But losing the ivory will not kill them. How they lose the ivory matters. Usually, people get ivories by culling (限量捕杀), which means killing old and weak elephants.
They also take ivories from the elephants that have died naturally.
However, these sources aren’t enough to keep up with the need for ivories. Therefore, some poachers (偷猎者) kill healthy elephants and cut their faces open to remove the tusks. About 27,000 elephants are killed by poachers each year, according to National Geopraphic.
As a result of poaching, some African elephants have gradually evolved (进化) without ivories, which has helped them avoid being killed. In Mozambique, about 90 percent of African elephants were killed for their ivories and meat from 1975 to 1992, National Geographic reported.
Scientists found that about a third of younger females—the elephants born after 1992—never developed ivories.

A. listing numbers B. raising questions C. telling stories D. comparing differences
33. According to the passage, elephants use their ivories to do many things except ________.
A. protecting themselves B. lifting things C. taking a shower D. collecting food

C. About 90 percent of all elephants in the world were killed from 1975 to 1992.
D. Most African elephants have evolved without ivories due to poaching.

Next, they get to work with knives and other tools to cut, carve (刻), and make holes in new instruments from a lot of mixed vegetables—almost 45 kg of them. The end results? The perfect instruments that can play some really fresh sounds. Once the instruments are ready, they are covered with damp cloths to keep them from drying out.

What happens to all these vegetable instruments after each concert? They are cut into pieces and cooked into soups for all to enjoy. So a cook and band member is quite needed.

In this group, “momo” have a close relationship and like to share their stories and life experiences. Interestingly, though “momos” want to hide themselves online, they still want to show their personalities and who they are in their group. So they will change the colors of their dinosaur avatars and add things to them like hats and accessories (配饰). “As ‘momo’ users, we can decide if we want to share something or not.” said Ding. This is the best this about the little “dinosaur”.
With the same name and picture, some “momos” spread mean words and even spread something bad to others with words online. However, we need to know that this can be irresponsible (不负责任的) and even harmful. With IP and a real-name registration system (实名制), “momos” can still found.
C it's a good book to learn about Chinese customs D. it is recommended by many famous people
31. According to the passage, the changes of the writer’s feelings may be “________”.
A. confused→cool→strange→useful B. cool→confused→interesting→useful
C. enjoyable→interesting→confused→cool D. strange→confused→interesting→useful
D
32. The author develops his idea in Paragraph 2 by ________.
A. listing numbers B. raising questions C. telling stories D. comparing differences
33. According to the passage, elephants use their ivories to do many things except ________.
A. protecting themselves B. lifting things C. taking a shower D. collecting food

D. Most African elephants have evolved without ivories due to poaching.
