As a great fairy tale writer, Andersen’s stories are popular among generations of children. This year is the 218th anniversary of his birth, 148 years after his death. We can still find that his writings are as popular now as they were then. Andersen experienced poverty (贫穷) and difficulties in his youth. But these all gave him ideas to write wonderful stories. “I have a lot of material from what I see, hear and feel in my life.” said Andersen, according to one of his biographies (传记). In his fairy tales, children not only see a fancy world but also learn difficult themes of life in simple ways. In The Little Mermaid, to stay with the prince, the little mermaid asks the witch to change her tail into human legs. Although she can walk and dance beautifully on her human legs, she is in great pain when she does so. Sometimes we need to make sacrifices (牺牲) for something or some one we love. That’s what Andersen wanted to explain to us. His other stories also have strong social messages. In The Ugly Duckling the character everyone makes fun of has inner beauty. Andersen wanted to teach children not to judge people by their appearances and that ordinary people can become heroes. The Emperor’s New Clothes is about two tailors who trick a very proud emperor into walking around with no clothes on. It showed Andersen’s anger against the authority (权威) of his time Today, Andersen’s fairy tales have been translated unto more than 100 languages. To honor the great writer, every April 2nd, on Andersen’s birthday, people celebrate International Children’s Book Day. 26. When did Hans Christian die? A. In 1878. B. In 1875. C. In 1888. D. In 1885. 27. What can be inferred from Paragraph 3? A. He liked meeting people to collect material for his stories. B. Children prefer the fancy world to difficult themes in his stories. C. His poverty and difficulties in his youth helped him in writing stories. D. He wrote stories to remind himself of the difficult life he had experienced. 28. In The Little Mermaid, what did Anderson try to tell us? A. Inner beauty is also very important. B. We shouldn’t judge people by their appearances. C. We need to make sacrifices for something or someone we love. D. We should show anger against the authority of the time we are living in.. 29. Which of the following is Not True according to the passage? A. His stories often have strong social messages. B. Andersen’s stories are popular among generations of children. C. Children in many countries can read Andersen’s stories in their own languages.’ D. We have celebrations on Andersen’s birthday and International Children’s Book Day. (B) By drawing patterns on the surface of a cup of tea, chabaixi, an ancient Chinese tea trick shown in a recent TV drama, has gone viral for its similarity with modern latte art (咖啡拉花艺术). Zhang Zhifeng, a practitioner of chabaixi, was glad to see the TV drama brought the technique (技艺) to people’s attention. Chabaixi can create endless patterns. such as bamboo s and mountains or even Chinese characters. How can it be made? There are over a dozen steps, from grinding (磨碎) tea for fine powder, to pouring boiled water, stirring the mixture for thick froth (泡沫), and finally drawing the patterns. It is different from making latte because people use clear water as the object to put into the cupnstead of milk. When the water touches the surface, it turns into a white color and disappears in 20 minutes. The process before the drawing is known as the tea-making technique, diancha. The quality of diancha is extremely important to whether patterns can be successfully produced later. “Chabaixi is one of the countless forms of tea-making techniques in China. This technique is not only unique in the world, but also it gives us a window into people’s lifestyle in the Song Dynasty, a period of time when free-time activities in some ways were like what we have now,” Zhang said. Before chabaixi was discovered by TV audiences, the technique was on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage (非物质文化遗产名录) of Fujian Province in 2017, after it was recovered by Zhang Zhifcng. He started researching chabaixi in the 1980s and brought the tech nique back in 2009 after decades of practice. Zhang considers all his hard work worthwhile. Now with Zhang’s better skills in tea making, he is also performing and teaching chabaixi in vocational schools across China. “About ten years ago, this special technique was close to disappearing completely. However, it is important to the tea culture, and it would be a shame to let it fade. It is my duty to pass it on to the next generations.” Zhang said. 30. What do the underlined words “gone viral” in Paragraph 1 probably mean? A. Disappeared suddenly. B. Became popular quickly. C. Received good protection. D. Remained highly competitive. 31. Which description of chabaixi is correct? A. It is painted with milk or water. B. It mainly describes beautiful scenery. C. It takes 20 minutes to finish the making process. D. It can’t be successfully made without good quality diancha. 32. Which of the following best describes Zhang Zhifeng? A. Hardworking and responsible. B. Faithful and intelligent. C. Brave and communicative. D. Creative and friendly. 33. Why did the writer include the last paragraph? A. To explain the way to protect chabaixi. B. To tell the value of Zhang Zhifeng’s hard work. C. To show that it is a shame if we let chabaixi fade. D. To introduce Zhang Zhifeng’s plan of passing on chabaixi. (C) It is common to surf the Internet at home now. However, a recent survey shows over 90% of parents are not clear what websites their children visit. I strongly believe that a training project should be started to help parents to improve their internet and computer skills. Then they can better monitor and instruct their children. Providing training would get parents to pay more attention to their children’s online activities. This is one advantage. If parents had a better understanding of the Internet and websites they would see the need to make sure that their children use it properly and responsibly. Providing training to parents would allow parents to help their children with their schoolwork as well. These days, some homework of online courses needs to be done on computer. If parents have poor computer skills, they will be of little or no help with the homework. That can make parents very upset. Some people argue that it is good that students can work independently on computers. However, it is clear that students, especially young students often need this kind of home support. Improving parents’ Internet and computer skills might also be a good way for parents to improve their relationships with their children. These days, children spend a lot of their free time on computers. If parents want to be part of their free time, they need to see that playing on computers can be a fun family activity. Joining their children can help parents bridge the gap between them and their children. Therefore, with parents’ better Internet and computer skills, children can be helped and guided to use the Internet in a proper and responsible way, which is actually important for individuals, families and society. 34. According to the passage, what does the survey tell us? A. Many parents don’t know what websites their children visit. B. Many parents seldom help their children to design websites. C. Many parents never tell their children how to surf the internet. D. Many parents never limit their children’s time on internet use. 35. Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage? A. ①/②③④/⑤ B. ①/②③/④⑤ C. ①/②③④⑤ D. ①②/③④/⑤ 36. From what section in a newspaper can you probably find this passage? A. Social life B. Sports events C. Cultural exchange D. Education guide 37. What is the main idea of this passage? A. Parents should pay more attention to their children. B. Parents should improve their Internet and computer skills. C. Children should not spend so much free time on computers. D. Children should find online courses to help with their homework. (D) Cool, amazing, unforgettable... something money can’t buy!
