Almost 140 bearded men who look like Ernest Hemingway came to Key West, the late writer's home during the 1930s, to take part in the Hemingway Look-Alike Contest(海明威模仿大赛) that began on July 20,2023.
The competition is an important part of the island's Hemingway Days Festival. It honors the talent and life of the Nobel Prize-winning writer.
During his Key West years, Hemingway wrote classic novels that include For Whom the Bell Tolls and To Have and Have Not.
The three-night look-alike competition is held each year at Sloppy Joe's Bar, where Hemingway often spent time with his friends.
Watched by judges, including previous(以前的) winners, participants take turns to walk across Sloppy Joe's stage. Many are repeat participants who bring their own supporters, and most try to copy the personality (个性) and appearance of Hemingway, who was called "Papa" in his later years.
The winner, Gerrit Marshall, from Madison, was chosen on Saturday, July 22, which was also his 68th birthday. "This is the best birthday I have ever had," said Marshall, whose birthday is just one day after Hemingway's.
Hemingway Days continued through July 23 with events including a street fair, talks about Hemingway's life and work, readings from his books and—because the writer enjoyed deep-sea fishing in Florida Keys—the Key West Marlin Tournament (基韦斯特马林鱼锦标赛).
There is also a "Running of the Bulls" event, which is based on an event held every year in Pamplona, Spain, which Hemingway's writing made famous. In the Spanish event people run through Pamplona’s streets as six bulls run after them.
In the Florida Keys event, the Hemingway look-alikes walk through the streets with bulls made of wood on wheels.

2. Who can be the judges? Please give an example.
3. What do participants do in the Hemingway Look-Alike Contest?
