There were doors all around the hall, but they were all locked (锁上). Alice walked sadly down the middle, wondering how she got out again.
Suddenly, she came upon a little three-legged table. There was nothing on it but a tiny (极小的) golden key, and Alice’s first idea was that this might belong to one of the doors of the hall.
But, alas! Either the locks were too large, or the key was too small. However, on the second time round, she came upon a low curtain (帘子) she had not noticed before and behind it was a little door. She tried the little golden key in the lock, and she was pleased to find it fitted!

Birds can see colors, just as people do. Birds need to see colors when they fly because they need to find places to land (着陆). Colors help them know how far the place is and what it is like so that they can catch flying things in the air or land on something they think safe.
Birds can “tell” the differences between colors. But for some other animals, such as wolves, the world looks like a black and white photo. Wolves look for food mainly by listening.
They can hear clearly when the animals they hunt move. But other animals seem to know this. For example, a rabbit will stop moving when it finds there is something dangerous. Then the wolves may not find it at all. However, birds are better than wolves in these ways. They can see dead insects (昆虫) from far away.
Some birds’ eyesight is better than people’s. They can see small insects when they fly in the sky. Because they are able to see colors, they can find food easily and find out if there are other animals that are dangerous to them.
47. Which is true about birds according to the passage?
①Colors can help them to find places to land.
②Colors can only let birds know how long the place is.
③Colors can let them catch flying things in the air and land safely.
A. ①②③ B. ①② C. ②③ D. ①③
48. What is the difference between birds and wolves?
A. Birds can tell the differences between colors, but wolves cannot.
B. Wolves can just see black and white things, but birds can see all kinds of colors.
C. If other animals stop moving, wolves may not see where they are, but birds are better than wolves in this way.
D. Wolves can see insects although they are far from them.
49. From the passage, we can infer (推断) that ________.
A. Birds can hear more clearly than wolves.
B People’s eyesight may be not good as some birds’.
C. If birds cannot see colors, they will not be able to find food.
D. Birds will never be attacked (袭击) by other dangerous animals because they can see colors.
Bottle gourd pyrography (葫芦烙画) is an art of burning pictures on the surface of the gourds (葫芦). The skill known as pyrography dates back more than 2,200 years ago to the Qin Dynasty.
The gourd has long been considered to bring good luck, because in Chinese the word for “gourd” sounds like the words for “blessing and wealth”. It was often used to store food, ladle water or hold water when people went out. Its shape made it a perfect tool in the past. In ancient times, many doctors used it to hold medicine and hung it in front of their clinics (诊所).
Skilled artists can turn common gourds into artworks. The first step is to pick a golden gourd. Then the artist draws a creative picture on the gourd. Finally, he usually takes advantage of (利用) the natural shape of the gourd, burning the pictures with electric category pens. This is the most difficult step. If there is any mistake in this step, all the work will go back to the beginning.
Zheng Xiaoliang from Anhui has been working on the gourd art for more than 40 years. “The gourd pyrography is difficult with a pyrography brush to create a wonderful picture and it requires skills in painting,” Zheng said. “If you want to learn this kind of art, you need to...”
