In the live-streaming channel of Yang Weiyun, no singing or dancing is performed nor are products sold. Yang teaches pinyin, reading and writing, something that has been most familiar to her for the past 50 years. The difference is that her students are mostly adults.
The 73-year-old, an experienced and respected educator, had taught Chinese in an elementary school for 50 years. In retirement, Yang also wanted to do something meaningful. The rise of short video platforms gave her the idea of continuing her education attempt through live-streaming online. The retiree opened her live-streaming account in May 2021 and offered free pinyin courses designed for kindergarten pupils about to attend primary schools. However, she gradually learned among her viewers there are a lot of adults who cannot read.
Yang said she found many illiterate adults develop a sense of lack of confidence. They are afraid to go to new places, worried that they couldn’t teach their children or read their boss’s instructions. “Many illiterate adults didn’t have the chance to go to school when they were young. They are the ones in urgent need of becoming literate. I wanted to give them a new starting point,” Yang said.
To better meet their needs, Yang added targeted content. Considering the schedule of most adult students, she even held two sessions everyday starting at 8:30 am and 8:30 pm. Yang’s live-streaming channel offers an easy and private way for those who want to overcome adult illiteracy. Now she has nearly 300,000 followers on the short video platform Douyin.
Yang said students learning through her live-streaming channel each have their own demands. So she always prepares her classes carefully after concluding a live-streaming session. She has tried her best to figure out what ways the students can learn and remember better, and her biggest wish now is to see these students graduate from her classes.
24. What’s Yang’s original purpose when she attempted teaching online?
A. To help illiterate adults to read. B. To spread Chinese character culture.
C. To teach kids before primary school. D. To sell products in her channel.
25. What can be inferred about Yang’s main audience?
A. They have a hard time getting along with their boss.
B. They hope to improve their lives through such courses.
C. They are confident though they not well-educated.
D. They have little access to learning sources online.
26. Why did Yang’s live-streaming class become a hit among adults?
A. Her classes are carefully adapted to the needs.
B. Her videos are easy and long enough to learn.
C. She is an experienced and respectable teacher.
D. Her sessions respect the audience’s privacy.
27. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A. It’s never too late to learn
B. Illiterate adults need help in education
C. A retired teacher helps illiterate adults online
D. A video platform offers new ways of education
【答案】24. C 25. B 26. A 27. C
【解析】

【24题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中的“The retiree opened her live-streaming account in May 2021 and offered free pinyin courses designed for kindergarten pupils about to attend primary schools.(这位退休人员在2021年5月开设了自己的直播账号,为即将上小学的幼儿园学生提供免费的拼音课程。)”可知,Yang在网上教学的最初目的是教还没上小学的孩子拼音课程,故选C。
【25题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中的“Yang said she found many illiterate adults develop a sense of lack of confidence. They are afraid to go to new places, worried that they couldn’t teach their children or read their boss’s instructions. “Many illiterate adults didn’t have the chance to go to school when they were young. They are the ones in urgent need of becoming literate. I wanted to give them a new starting point,” Yang said.(Yang说,她发现许多不识字的成年人会产生缺乏自信的感觉。他们害怕去新的地方,担心他们不能教孩子或读不懂老板的指示。“许多不识字的成年人在年轻时没有机会上学。他们是最需要识字的人。我想给他们一个新的起点。”)”可知,由于小时候没有学习机会,不识字的成年人缺乏自信,并担心因此在教育孩子和工作上都无法解决困难,所以他们迫切希望识字。可以推断他们想通过类似课程识字从而提高自己的生活质量,故选B。
【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“To better meet their needs, Yang added targeted content. Considering the schedule of most adult students, she even held two sessions everyday starting at 8:30 am and 8:30 pm. Yang’s live-streaming channel offers an easy and private way for those who want to overcome adult illiteracy. Now she has nearly 300,000 followers on the short video platform Douyin.(为了更好地满足他们的需求,Yang增加了针对性的内容。
根据全文内容,结合第一段中的“Yang teaches pinyin, reading and writing, something that has been most familiar to her for the past 50 years. The difference is her students are mostly adults.(Yang教授拼音、阅读和写作,这是她在过去50年里最熟悉的东西。不同的是,她的学生大多是成年人。)”可知,文章主要讲述一位73岁老教师直播教人识字的故事。C项“一位退休教师在网上教成年人识字”适合作为文章标题。故选C。
When I mentioned to some friends that we all have accents (口音), most of them proudly replied, “Well, I speak perfect English/ Chinese/ etc." But this kind of response makes me fail to understand the true meaning of accents.
Usually, what we mean when we say someone “has an accent” is that their accent is different from the local one, or that pronunciations are different from our own. But this definition of accents is limiting and could give rise to prejudice. Funnily enough, in terms of the language study, every person speaks with an accent. It is the regular differences in how we produce sounds that define our accents. Even if you don’t hear it yourself, you speak with some sort of accent. In this sense, it’s pointless to point out that someone “has an accent”. We all do!
Every person speaks a dialect (方言), too. In the field of language study, a dialect is a version of a language that is characterized by its variations of structure, phrases and words. For instance, “You got eat or not?” (meaning “Have you eaten?”) is an acceptable and understood question in Singapore Oral English. The fact that this expression would cause a standard American English speaker to take pause doesn’t mean that Singapore Oral English is “wrong” or “ungrammatical”. The sentence is well-formed and clearly communicative, according to native Singapore English speakers’ solid system of grammar. Why should it be wrong just because it’s different?
We need to move beyond a narrow conception of accents and dialects — for the benefit of everyone.
Language differences like these provide deep understandings into people’s cultural experiences and backgrounds. In a global age, the way one speaks is definitely a part of one’s identity. Most people would be happy to talk about the cultures behind their speech. We’d learn more about the world we live in and make friends along the way.
28. What does the author think of his/ her friends’ response in paragraph 1?
A. It reflects their self-confidence.
B. It reflects their language levels.
C. It misses the point of communication.
D. It misses the real meaning of accents.
29. Why does the author use the example of Singapore Oral English?
A. To support the use of dialects.
B. To show the diversity of dialects.
C. To correct a grammatical mistake.
D. To highlight a traditional approach.
30. What does the author recommend us to do in the last paragraph?
A. Learn to speak with your local dialect.
B. Seek for an official definition of accents.
C. Appreciate the value of accents and dialects.
D. Distinguish our local languages from others’.
31. What can be a suitable title for this passage?
A. Everyone Has an Accent
B. Accents Weaken Our Uniqueness
C. Dialects Lead to Misunderstanding
D. Standard English Is at Risk
【答案】28. D 29. A 30. C 31. A
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇议论文。主要论述了每个人都有口音。从这个意义上说,指出某人“有口音”是毫无意义的。语言差异可以帮助人们洞察他人的文化经历和背景,因此我们要欣赏口音和方言的价值。
【28题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段“When I mentioned to some friends that we all have accents, most of them proudly replied, “Well, I speak perfect English/ Chinese/ etc." But this kind of response makes me fail to understand the true meaning of accents.(当我跟一些朋友提到我们每个人说话都有口音时,他们中的大多数人都自豪地回答:“哦,我说的是标准的英语或汉语等等。” 但这种回应让我无法理解口音的真正含义。)”可知,作者认为他或她的朋友的回应忽略了口音的真正含义。故选D。
【29题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段第一句“Every person speaks a dialect, too. (每个人也会说一种方言。)”及本段后文“American English speaker to take pause doesn’t mean that Singapore Oral English is “wrong” or “ungrammatical”. The sentence is well-formed and clearly communicative, according to native Singapore English speakers’ solid system of grammar. Why should it be wrong just because it’s different?(以美式英语为母语的人会停顿,这并不意味着新加坡英语口语是 “错误的” 或 “不合语法的”。按照新加坡英语母语者自成体系的语法规则,这个句子结构规范,表意清晰。仅仅因为它与众不同,就该被视为错误吗?)”可知,作者认为不能因为它不同就认为它是错的。所以作者使用新加坡口语的例子是为了证明使用方言是可以接受的。故选A。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Language differences like these provide deep understandings into people’s cultural experiences and backgrounds. In a global age, the way one speaks is definitely a part of one’s identity. Most people would be happy to talk about the cultures behind their speech. We’d learn more about the world we live in and make friends along the way.(诸如此类的语言差异能让我们深入了解人们的文化经历和背景。在全球化时代,一个人的说话方式无疑是其身份认同的一部分。大多数人会很乐意谈论自己语言背后的文化。这样一来,我们会更多地了解我们所生活的世界,还能在这个过程中交到朋友。)”可知, 作者在最后一段中建议我们欣赏口音和方言的价值。故选C。
【31题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第二段“In this sense, it’s pointless to point out that someone “has an accent”. We all do! (从这个意义上说,指出某人“有口音”是毫无意义的。我们都有!)”以及第三段“Every person speaks a dialect, too. (每个人也会说一种方言。)”可知,作者认为每个人都有口音,而且作者在最后一段指出不同的口音可以让我们更多地了解我们生活的世界,并在这一过程中结交朋友。故A项“Everyone Has an Accent (每个人都有口音)”最能概括本文主旨。故选A。

故填which。

【答案】62. provide the students with a varied school life
63. encouraging us to get pleasure from reading
64. gave a wonderful performance
65. did we pass on our campus culture
66. our own school life was also enriched
【解析】
【导语】本篇书面表达属于应用文,要求考生写一篇报道,报道“社团文化节”活动的相关情况。
【62题详解】
根据括号内提示“provide, varied school life”和空前的不定式符号To可知,这里是在陈述活动的目的,应用不定式结构。provide sb. with sth.为固定搭配,意为“给某人提供某物”。这里是指给学生提供丰富多样的学校生活,所以应填provide the students with a varied school life。
【63题详解】
根据括号内提示“encourage, pleasure, reading”可知,这里指的是鼓励学生从阅读中获得乐趣。encourage sb. to do sth.意为“鼓励某人做某事”,所以这里为encourage us to get pleasure from reading。本句的谓语为recommended,所以空处应用非谓语动词短语。encourage和逻辑主语The literary society之间是主谓关系,应用现在分词形式,所以应填encouraging us to get pleasure from reading。
【64题详解】
本句缺少主句的谓语结构。根据括号内提示“performance”可知,这里指的是功夫俱乐部展现了精彩的表演,应用give a wonderful performance,且这里表示过去发生的事情,应用一般过去时,所以应填gave a wonderful performance。
【65题详解】
本句是not only…but also…结构,连接的应是两个句子,且not only位于句首,其后句子应部分倒装。根据括号内提示“pass on, culture”可知,这里指的是在这次活动中我们将校园文化传承下去了,应填did we pass on our campus culture.
【66题详解】
结合第4题解析可知,空处应为一个句子。根据括号内提示“school life, enrich”可知,这里指的是我们的学校生活也得到了丰富,应填our own school life was also enriched。
【点睛】【高分句型1】The literary society recommended many good books, encouraging us to get pleasure from reading.(使用了现在分词作状语、不定式作宾补)
【高分句型2】Through this festival, not only did we pass on our campus culture, but our own school life was also enriched. (使用了not only…but also…结构、部分倒装结构)
七、读后续写
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Thick snowflakes swirled (旋转) around my car. Everything around me was white. The light was fading (变暗) as the sun set over the rocky peaks.
I was driving up a mountain pass on what was supposed to be a four-hour trip from Red River, New Mexico, to Durango, Colorado, I drove slowly along on a winding, unfamiliar road in a snowstorm. I was on my way to meet my friend Jane, who was in Durango. I was so excited about the weekend that I left without checking the weather.
Thirty minutes into my drive, the snow had started. Gentle snow at first. I thought about turning around. But it hardly looked threatening, so I continued. Now I regretted that decision. But it was too late. The road was too narrow and icy for me to turn around. The snow was bad, getting worse. The only way out was forward, higher and higher into the mountains. The last bit of sunlight disappeared, and I couldn’t see anything beyond the few feet lighted by my headlights.
My cell phone had lost service as soon as I’d entered the mountain. I couldn’t call for help. The clothes were in my luggage. Maybe I could find a place to pull over and wear more clothes until morning. Would that be enough to keep me warm all night? How long would it take for someone to find me? “Everything will be fine,” I whispered.
Then I noticed a pair of lights seemed to glow dimly (朦胧地) through the snowstorm. I opened my eyes wide hard and then looked ahead. There they were. Tail-lights! There was a car in front of me! At least someone was here with me. Focus on the lights, I told myself, not your fear. I followed my guide for at least another half hour as we continued to pass the mountain.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Finally, I felt the road start to level down gradually.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
At the base of the mountain, I spotted the tail-lights.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Finally, I felt the road start to level down gradually. I lost sight of the tail lights ahead of me. But the panic didn’t return. I could see the car’s tire tracks in my headlights. All I had to do was follow the tracks the rest of the way down the mountain. I drove slowly, keeping my wheels within the tracks every inch of the way. Soon I could see the lights of a town twinkling in the distance. The snow started to cover the tracks I was following. But both of us had made it.
At the base of the mountain, I spotted the tail-lights. As I got closer, I saw it was a SUV. I pulled up beside it and rolled down my window. The driver of the ear did the same. “Many thanks. I was really scared on my way. Fortunately, I followed you. It was your car’s light and tracks that gave me hope and encouragement,” The driver looked at me and smiled. “My pleasure. To tell you the truth I was also fearful at the heavy snow, but when I noticed there was a car behind me I felt much better. In fact we hadn’t been alone on that mountain road at night.”

26. Why did Yang’s live-streaming class become a hit among adults?
